Daniel Jones' big game helps Giants end playoff drought (ESPN)

Daniel Jones had four touchdowns Sunday as the Giants crushed the Colts to earn their first postseason berth since the 2016 season.

"It was sticky and wet," Daboll said with a laugh. "It means a lot," said Love, a captain and the team's defensive playcaller. The Giants had lost at least 10 games in each of the previous five seasons. "You have [had] to learn and experience a lot of hard lessons the last few years here. "Let's be honest, no one besides the men and women in that facility gave us a chance to accomplish this, said Barkley, who passed his career-best rushing total of 1,307 yards from his rookie season on Sunday. Their goal was always to try to rebuild and compete on the fly. "A lot of guys who put in a lot of work. The Giants got back in the playoffs behind four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) from Jones, who finished 19-of-24 passing for 177 yards and rushed for 91 yards on 11 carries in a dominant performance. All of this in Daboll's first year in charge with one week remaining in the regular season.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It's time to party like it's 2016 because the Giants are headed to the playoffs.

for a six-yard TD pass with 2:08 left in the third, but the Giants answered right back as Jones rushed for 10 yards to make it a 38-10 game seconds into the fourth quarter. The lead grew to 18 after Landon Collins picked off a throw by Foles and took it 52 yards to the end zone for a touchdown in the final two minutes of the second quarter. New York took nine plays to march down the field from their own 36 on a drive that was highlighted by a 13-yard scramble by Jones and a six-yard TD pass to Isaiah Hodgins with 4:21 left in the second quarter to make it a 14-3 Giants lead. The Giants responded with a 71-yard, 6:48 drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Jones to James to put them ahead 7-3. It was James’ first touchdown catch since the Giants’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and extended his career high in TDs to four on the season. Isaiah Hodgins, brought in from the Buffalo Bills practice squad, had four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown of his own. You gave yourself a chance to compete for the Super Bowl.” No one, let’s be honest, no one besides the men and women in that facility gave us a chance to accomplish this and we just stuck to the script and kept believing in each other, and gave ourselves an opportunity. You want to make it to the playoffs, but making it to the playoffs is not like you won the Super Bowl. The Giants back also set a new career high in single-season rushing yards when he surpassed 1,308 with a run late in the third quarter. A win never seemed to be in doubt as the Daniel Jones-led offense recorded at least 30 points for the first time in 44 games in front of a raucous MetLife Stadium crowd, which had anticipated starting off the new year on a positive note. “We had to learn some tough tests earlier in the past couple of years to get us to this spot.

Insider: Listless Colts blown out by Giants in another ugly performance (The Indianapolis Star)

Indianapolis has now lost six straight under interim coach Jeff Saturday, getting out-scored by 91 points in those games.

Indianapolis has struggled in short yardage all season long, but the Colts have also struggled to score points, and they were on the road against a highly-motivated opponent. A Colts team that has struggled to score points all season long finally picked up a big play in the passing game when Foles sent a looping throw downfield that Parris Campbell tracked down, then leaped and caught for a 49-yard gain, the longest pass play of the Indianapolis season. Three plays later, Indianapolis faced a fourth-and-1 at the Giants 5-yard line, and initially the Colts lined up to go for the conversion. [celebrated as Foles writhed on the ground in pain](https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2023/01/01/colts-qb-nick-foles-leaves-game-in-pain-while-kayvon-thibodeaux-celebrates/69770099007/) with a rib injury. Foles, trying to make up for an ugly first start in an Indianapolis uniform on Monday night, completed 8 of 13 passes for 81 yards, but he was picked off by Giants safety Landon Collins on an out route late in the second quarter, and the veteran safety returned the interception 52 yards for a touchdown that gave the Giants a 21-3 lead and broke the game wide open. Facing off against a Giants team that needed a win to get into the playoffs, Indianapolis failed to put up much of a fight, struggling in all three phases of a 38-10 loss that keeps the team in position for a top-5 pick.

He didn’t provide much of a spark but he was able to guide the offense for their first touchdown since the first half against the Minnesota Vikings. This all comes down to the lack of talent at quarterback and why they have to not only go find a solution but more importantly, a long-term answer. He was flying all over the field to get stops for the defense. Rodney McLeod was able to jump on it for the recovery. With Stephon Gilmore holding up Darius Slayton he was able to come in and peanut punch the ball out to force the fumble. The decision to not go for it early in the game proved to be costly. But it was on the ground that he gave the Colts defense problems. It was the Daniel Jones show for the Giants’ offense today. A way too common theme for the offense this season after they would find a way to score a touchdown. Then on the following drive, Landon Collins read Nick Foles the whole way to get an easy pick-six to make it a 21-3 game. 49 of those yards came on a Parris Campbell catch on the second drive of the game. Most players seem to be going through the motions which led to a great day for Daniel Jones.

Coming out of Sunday's games — Giants win over Colts, Vikings loss to Packers, 49ers win over Raiders — it looks like the Giants will be heading back to ...

If the Giants do wind up avoiding the 49ers on wild-card weekend — and beating Minnesota — they’ll have Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to thank, for Sunday’s 41-17 blowout of the Vikings, which let San Francisco move up from No. (For the sake of comparison, the Giants’ point differential is exactly zero, after Sunday’s 28-point win over the Colts.) So San Francisco has certainly looked like more of a buzzsaw at times this season than Minnesota. Yet in terms of the Giants’ defense, the Vikings’ tandem of Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson is daunting. The only way the Vikings can reclaim the No. Plus, the Giants haven’t faced the 49ers this season. They’ve thrived in close games, including their 27-24 victory over the Giants. Just think about what playing the 49ers would’ve entailed for the Giants — a longer trip and a matchup with the NFL’s best defense, which surely would not bode well for the Giants’ offense. The Giants wound up losing on a 61-yard field goal as time expired. So the 49ers have moved up from the No. The 49ers and Vikings are both 12-4, but the 49ers are 9-2 in NFC games, while the Vikings are 7-4. 3 seed to the No. In any other scenario, the Vikings will remain at No.

This, he said, is different because of two qualities that stand out above the rest: togetherness and accountability. "Our goal – it'll never be just to make the playoffs," Daboll said. Center Jon Feliciano is one of the players added by team brass, and this will be his fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs, having been with Schoen and Daboll in Buffalo the last three years. On Jones - "Halfway through the fourth quarter, with his Giants up four touchdowns, Jones came off the field for his curtain-call moment. On Daboll - "The Giants head coach did his best not to utter the word "playoffs" this week, but he'll have no choice now. This was the type of win that will give the Giants some confidence going forward and make them feel like they might be able to do some damage in the playoffs." "Daboll got the Giants out to a 7-2 start playing ultra close games every week, weathered a four-game winless streak and has rebounded with two wins in the past three weeks to lock up a playoff spot in his first year as a head coach. On Sunday, after the 38-10 rout of the Colts, fans were chanting his name, loving him for probably the first heavy-decibel time in his four seasons in New Jersey. 6 seed in the NFC, with a trip to either Minnesota or San Francisco on the horizon for Wild Card Weekend.

Should Giants Sit Starters vs. Eagles? (NYGiantsmaven)

We look at both sides of the argument--and anticipate what head coach Brian Daboll will likely do.

I'd say you've put the work and time and effort and energy into it, and when you get a spot, that doesn't change the things that helped you get to where you're at. If the game ends up a blowout by halftime or the end of the third quarter, then be smart and pull guys out. The Eagles aren't perfect as the Patriots were back then, but they're still one of the best teams in football. That said, Daboll can't coach scared, but he can coach smart, which he's done for most of the year. The Giants lost that game by a field goal, but they gained valuable insight into a potential opponent they would eventually see again on a much bigger stage. Try to have a good week of practice, prepare like we normally do, and then decide what we wanna do relative to who's playing, who's not playing--whatever we think is best for our team."

Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Week 17 win (Giants Wire)

The New York Giants defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 38-10, in Week 17 and the Giants Wire team grades reflect that performance.

The Colts were also only 25 percent on third down on the day as the Giants’ defense was once again great in this area. The team was also great on third down as Kafka had them going 4-7 on third downs. Jamie Gillan only punted once and it was for a touchback — it was not the best result but definitely not a game-changer. In terms of the rush defense, things could have definitely improved slightly as the team allowed 128 rushing yards on the day. The Colts were only able to pass for 124 yards on the day. A lot of credit has to also go to the offensive line which allowed zero sacks and only two quarterback hits.

I'm just happy that I'm still here and still with the guys and out there with them." "I thought I was going to be able to come back," he said. "That was the biggest thing and just making sure for the next play. "Honestly, it's just more making a play for our team and just making sure we're set," he said. So, I think we got to focus on what we need to do here in 2023." We'll do what we think is best for the team and sit down and have conversations. The Giants cruised to a 24-14 victory. You just got to make a good decision based on information and the things you talk about with the people on your staff and make the decision that you think if right for your team.
