Early in the third quarter, the rookie took it 40 yards downfield off a jet-sweep. He was patient, waited for holes to open up and when they did, it was like a drag race. Grade: A Jack Fox kicked the heck out of a couple of punts, with a long of 60 yards across three tries. There was also a penalty on a Kalif Raymond punt return that cost the offense 20-plus yards of starting field position. He even played a handful of punt-return coverage snaps, then stood next to Amani Oruwariye on the sideline. That’s a nice day at the office for the defensive backs. And that was it for the receivers, with Chase Claypool, Dante Pettis, Byron Pringle and rookie Velus Jones blanked. Rodriguez had four tackles and Derrick Barnes was back in the lineup with two. To be in denial that this team has radically improved and is in great position for the future, that’s simply not a tenable position.
