Live updates: No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 TCU in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl (NCAA.com)

In the College Football Playoff semifinal, No. 2 Michigan faces No. 3 TCU in the Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31. Here's everything you need to know.

The Wolverines looked poised to take a quick lead, but the TCU stood tall in the redzone, sniffing out a 'Philly Special' trick play attempt by Michigan on 4th and goal. But in a goal-line scrum, the ball was coughed up and recovered by the Horned Frogs! Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan threw for 89 yards, a touchdown and a pick, adding 30 yards and a score on the ground. The Wolverines had three turnovers between McCarthy's pick-six, a fumble and one on downs. Blake Moody chips home a 21-yard field goal for his third score on the night as the Wolverines once again reach the redzone and fail to reach paydirt. The Wolverines got the ball back with favorable field position thanks to a Mike Sainristil interception of Max Duggan near midfield. The game has once again got away from Michigan with a second interception returned for a touchdown in the game. This time, Max Duggan took a back seat to backup running back Emari Demarcado, who has filled in nicely for the hurt Kendre Miller. Three plays, six points for the Michigan offense, all thanks to the legs of J.J. Roman Wilson ran it into the endzone from 18 yards out (punctuated by a helicopter ride) and Ronnie Wilson added the two-point conversion to cut the Wolverines' deficit to just three points with nearly the entire final quarter to be played. Max Duggan punched it in again for his second rushing touchdown of the night. Madness in the Fiesta Bowl.— Dean Straka (@DWStraka49)

TCU shocks Michigan, becomes first Big 12 team to make CFP title ... (ESPN)

In the biggest upset since the advent of the College Football Playoff, third-seeded TCU rode its underdog status to a 51-45 win over undefeated and No.

All season, the most points Michigan had given up in an entire game was 27, and going back to last season, the most the Wolverines had surrendered in a game was 37. McCarthy](https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4433970/jj-mccarthy) threw a telegraphed pass to the outside that was picked off by sophomore safety [Bud Clark](https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4430262/bud-clark) and returned for a touchdown. They could get only one, and the Wolverines had 52 seconds to go 75 yards and make a miracle happen. Johnston sped his way to the sideline and took it 76 yards to the end zone to put the Frogs back up 10. The Frogs needed two first downs to finish the game with the ball in their hands. After Michigan cut the TCU lead to three points early in the fourth quarter, Duggan, as he has done all season, responded by making the throw of the game. The touchdown culminated a 10-play, 83-yard drive that gave the Frogs a commanding 21-6 halftime lead and put the Wolverines in their biggest deficit of the season. While Michigan struggled to capitalize, on the other side of the ball, Duggan -- the Heisman runner-up -- was pulling out all the stops. [Emari Demercado](https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4362478/emari-demercado) who broke loose for a 69-yard run that Duggan finished off with another 1-yard touchdown sneak. [TCU](/college-football/team/_/id/2628/tcu-horned-frogs) rode its underdog status to a [51-45 win](/college-football/game/_/gameId/401442016) over undefeated and No. 2 [Michigan](/college-football/team/_/id/130/michigan-wolverines) in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday. Under coach Jim Harbaugh, Michigan had allowed more than 14 points in the first quarter and gone on to win just once, in 2016 against Colorado, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

TCU holds off Michigan rally with big plays in wild second half to win ... (AZCentral.com)

Every time Michigan made a run in the second half, TCU responded and was able to hold on for the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl win.

His sack for a seven-yard loss stalled Michigan at the TCU 49. He kept the pressure on TCU with a 5-yard TD pass that cut the score to 51-45 with 3:18 to play. The ball rolled back and out of bounds another five yards to the Michigan 37 with 24 seconds left. Then, after Michigan got the ball back with 53 seconds left, Horton had another sack that caused a fumble. From his 49, McCarthy launched a deep pass to Roman Wilson, who had gotten behind the secondary. Nobody could catch him for the 76-yard touchdown and it gave TCU a needed 10-point cushion after Michigan had fought back from a 34-16 deficit to make it 41-38. He threw a 34-yard TD pass to Ronnie Bell for Michigan's first touchdown midway through the third quarter. Next play, McCarthy handed the ball off to Kalel Mullings, who lost it. He finished with 150 yards and a score on 17 carries and Miller had run for 57 yards on eight carries. McCarthy (343 passing yards) bounced back from the two interceptions that TCU returned for touchdowns with big plays with his arm and legs. But TCU had one more big play, and held off the Wolverines. "I thought we were the more physical team on the field tonight.

Throw in running back [Kendre Miller](/college-football/players/3162256/kendre-miller/), who is having one of the best rushing seasons TCU has seen since Ladanian Tomlinson, and the Horned Frogs have an offense that has lots of different ways to pick a defense apart. 3 [TCU](https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/teams/TCU/tcu-horned-frogs/) meet in Glendale, Arizona. Of the 16 semifinal games that have been held since the format was introduced in 2014, only three have been decided even by single digits, and nine of those 16 games have been decided by 20 points or more. TCU went 5-0 in one-score games during the regular season and nearly logged yet another comeback as Duggan led an injury-riddled offense down the field to force overtime against Kansas State in the Big 12 title game before falling short. Edwards ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the win against Ohio State, and then added 185 yards on the ground in the Big Ten Championship Game against [Michigan](https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/teams/MICH/michigan-wolverines/) and No. A unique test for Michigan's defense: Michigan faced a pair of dangerous passing attacks in its final two games, but TCU presents a brand new type of challenge for the Wolverines. The Wolverines are one of just two top-10 teams in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The showdown between the Wolverines and the Horned Frogs will also mark the first time the two programs have played in football, and you could not ask for higher stakes or a better setting for the series' first meeting.
