The team used an elite asset – a first-round pick – to acquire a young player who filled a need. The Knicks are also in desperate need of a versatile wing defender on the bench. The common excuse is that the Knicks didn’t want to risk an injury as they seek to offload Reddish in a trade. That disconnect between Thibodeau and the front office is inexcusable. While Fournier was able to knock down some shots in his minutes, the bench unit that featured Fournier, Derrick Rose, and Isaiah Hartenstein was a disaster for New York. Yet, despite Hartenstein’s failure to produce much at all over the last month, Thibodeau keeps him on a set regimen of minutes and seems to refuse to play Jericho Sims more or Reddish at all. With Barrett out and the perimeter defense struggling in the first quarter, Thibodeau could have gone to his only other small forward and brought Cam Reddish off the bench. Even when he didn’t live up to expectations in Atlanta, he showed himself as a more versatile option than players like Hartenstein and Fournier. On Thursday, the Knicks used a nine-man rotation, but since they were bringing players off of the bench who haven’t played many minutes in weeks, Thibodeau was reluctant to use them for long stretches. While some of the poor performance can be excused by the absence of Barrett and Quickley, depth is supposed to be the calling card of this Knicks team. The Spurs shot 51.1% from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc in the contest. The Knicks were often a step too slow to the ball, and the Spurs got too many open looks.

The Knicks have another favorable matchup on New Year’s Eve, playing the last-place Houston Rockets to finish off the road trip around the Texas Triangle. For now, the Knicks as a team seem stuck. Despite the Knicks’ struggles as a team lately, there are some things to feel good about. The losses they have suffered recently are making their win streak seem like a fluke. Even with the depleted roster, a loss to one of the league’s worst teams feels nothing short of disappointing. This time, after suffering a pair of heartbreaking defeats this past week, they lost 122-115 to the rebuilding San Antonio Spurs on the road.

The San Antonio Spurs (12-23) defeated the New York Knicks (18-18) during the NBA Thursday slate, with 122-115 being the final score.
The Blues need a long-term replacement for ageing duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, who are both due to be out of contract at the end of the season. Grisham seems like the easier of the two to pry away and could easily slot over to left field and be an upgrade over Ozuna and Rosario. He’s in his prime years, affordable, and reliable with the stick and in the field. Lewan suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2, and during the broadcast of the contest against the Cowboys, Amazon Prime Video had some fun at the expense of Lewan and the injury-ravaged Titans with a creative graphic. “…Nobody is discussing how good Caldwell would be for a Colts team that is likely to draft a young quarterback who needs an experienced head coach that not only knows the NFL but has seen and done it all. Kim is the more enticing player of the two and would be an excellent replacement for Dansby Swanson. Jordan Poole is having a fantastic year for the Golden State Warriors, and he would have the opportunity to become the next face of the Los Angeles Lakers if moved there. Obviously, Jordan Poole alone isn't enough for the Los Angeles Lakers to give up LeBron James, and thus the Los Angeles Lakers would receive young players and draft compensation from the Golden State Warriors to make up for the difference in talent and ability between Jordan Poole and LeBron James. Saban had said they would be allowed to play in the bowl game if they wanted to, but none of them opted to make the trip. "I feel like we did a great job at executing and we stayed solid on defense for the most part. The Knicks led 25-21 at the 3:49 mark of the period, and San Antonio closed it out on a 17-4 run, leading by as many as 19. The Knicks struggled to stay competitive in this game despite receiving a staggering 41 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists from Julius Randle.
Instead, everyone just did their jobs. How novel is that? Keldon stepped up after some early foul trouble and went toe to toe with Julius Randle. The defense ...
The best way to do that is to rile up a deranged, irrational fan base and let them come after you. There is always going to be something going on with the other team that is out of the realm of something the Spurs can control. The Knicks are fine. Sometimes you simply have to step out on a ledge and declare that you hate something in order to get anyone to stop what they’re doing and look at you. We know he can be a rock on defense and that will always be useful, but the idea that he might be able to sprinkle in some flashes of offense like this here and there has certainly sparked some curiosity. I hate the Knicks. I have no idea how to project the kind of player he might grow into over this process, but I really love getting to see little glimpses of possibilities like this. The thing they have to work on this season is focusing on the things they can control. This season is about growth and development, and I feel confident that he’s going to find where he’s going. Talent and experience and all that stuff will come along steadily enough but, even if it does, if the infrastructure for winning isn’t already in place, then it still might be for naught. The effort and concentration across the board refused to break and, sure enough, there they were when the whistle blew holding a nice little seven-point win. Some part of the operation would fail, and our guys would continue along their journey of learning the hard truths about what it takes to play in the NBA.
Whether tired, apathetic, or both, the Knicks, short RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson, didn't play their best against the Spurs and got exposed for it.
Their goal is to be better than the sum of their parts. The team has moved on to Houston for their next game on Saturday. Grimes is a dynamo at the point of attack, and Robinson the last line of defense at the rim. It’s time for the team to trust this kid and open up pathways to him playing major minutes consistently. With Barrett and Brunson out, the Knicks were short on candidates to run the offense. So, ya, two Knicks scored 67% of their points and the opposing team couldn’t miss. We are approaching a point where a reasonable argument could be made for giving all 96 guard minutes to the Knicks’ three best guards; Brunson, Grimes and Quickley. Quickley finished the night with 36 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, to just one turnover. The Knicks came out flat-footed and the Spurs couldn’t miss. The Knicks played a basketball game last night in San Antonio. Offensively the Knicks relied on two men — Randle and Immanuel Quickley. Fresh off of a devastating loss in Dallas that had almost the entire fanbase paralyzed, the Knicks rolled into San Antonio looking to rebound.

Most likely, Fournier will re-exit the rotation when at least Brunson or Barrett return from their respective injuries. With a grand opportunity to snap their losing streak, the New York Knicks instead managed to fall to the Spurs in an embarrassing 122-115 loss.
With it being a long 82-game season, losing streaks happen, but the Knicks have somehow found a way to be an embarrassment again after winning eight games. Maybe Fournier’s performance in the loss raised the eyebrows of an opposing GM, which would be to New York’s benefit as the Feb. Fournier shot 4-of-6 from the floor and 1-of-3 from three to finish with 11 points in 17 minutes, but as Knicks fans know, his scoring inconsistencies and lack of defense make him a liability. Julius Randle (41 points) and Immanuel Quickley (36 points) combined for 77 points, but that wasn’t enough to knock off one of the worst teams in the league. New York’s previous win streak had fans on a high, but that high has been followed by a hard crash back to reality. New York had a prime opportunity to stop its losing skid on Thursday against the previous 11-23 Spurs, but instead, the Knicks suffered a 122-115 loss.
Momentum is fickle, and over the course of an 82-game schedule, there are enough twists and turns to make sustained excellence difficult for most teams.
Im sure they would be able to fetch a massive return for the 26 year old superstar in Devers it would be a debacle for them not to make a deal and have Devers walk for nothing. That is not to say Jackson cannot do it and be effective, but that is a long layoff and the Ravens offense has been a mess for the past month and a half. The Ravens have already clinched a playoff spot, but the division is still up for grabs and they are going to need a lot more from their offense if they are going to have a chance to make any noise in the playoffs. MLB began its enforcement already by measuring the infield dirt at every stadium this year, and only one was found to be in violation: MLB officials recently began measuring the depth of infield dirt in all 30 parks. That being said if the Cubs are able to swing a deal for Devers and are able to lock him up long term it would be completely worth it. With Boston being in the AL East and not exactly in a great position to contend this upcoming year the Sox could look to deal Devers. I’M GOING TO ASSUME THE RED SOX ARE NOT CONTENDERS IN JULY OF THIS SEASON AND THAT THE CUBS ARE FIGHTING FOR SECOND PLACE — BARELY ABOVE .500 OR EVEN JUST AT .500 — WITH THE BREWERS BEHIND THE CARDINALS IN A LACKLUSTER NL CENTRAL. Mark Davis looks to have played a role in the decision that led to Jarrett Stidham being announced the starter and Carr leaving the team for the time being, Tafur adds (subscription required). Doncic's stupendous performances had fans wanting him to be the first in the standings. We have to be on the glass or sprinting back to not allow a team to get 25 fast-break points. On that date, the Knicks extended their winning streak to a season-best eight consecutive games with a 132-94 dismantling of the Golden State Warriors that seemed to confirm that all of their pieces were meshing perfectly. Getting back on the same page will be a challenge down two starters, but the Knicks need to find a way to excel regardless.
An anonymous NBA exec hinted that a suitor for Derrick Rose's services has emerged for the New York Knicks.
A trade for Rose would have to be made with not only this year but the following season in mind as well: he has a team option worth over $14.5 million in guarantees due next year, part of a three-year deal he signed with the Knicks in August 2021. Injuries to both RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson (two of the Knicks' top three scorers) have temporarily afforded Rose a regular role again, but Miami's declining depth beyond Lowry (both Victor Oladipo and Gabe Vincent each fight injuries) would likely give him an immediate place to contribute in South Beach. While he has appeared in, and started, 30 games so far this campaign, he has missed five of the last 10 thanks in part to a knee injury. Lowry, 36, is in the midst of his second season with Miami and is averaging 14.4 points and six assists per game. The 2011 MVP is in the midst of his second stint and fourth year with the Knicks, who brought him back to Manhattan in a February 2021 trade with the Detroit Pistons after New York was his first stop for a season on what's been a nomadic career since his time with the Chicago Bulls ended in 2016. "Miami is a team to look at there," the exec says.

Julius Randle said he isn't thinking about being named to the All-Star team for the second time in three seasons, after missing out last year.
“It’s a credit to him. It’s not easy for Derrick [Rose] either, but that’s what being a professional is and that’s what the expectation is.” “So it would be a great thing, but like I said, my focus is more on the team.” Coach Tom Thibodeau said Thursday that Brunson has been “a little better each day.” “I’m just trying to focus on the team, helping us get wins, day by day, how I can improve as a player and a leader, and how we can improve as a team,” Randle said. But I’m more focused on the team.”
