Wisconsin vs Oklahoma State Odds, Pick | Our Guaranteed Rate ... (The Action Network)

Tuesday's bowl slate will conclude in Phoenix, Arizona, as the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

Ultimately, Wisconsin will have more key pieces available against an Oklahoma State team that has lost its most valuable asset in Sanders. Cobb contributed to 96 tackles (58 solo) this season and will be a huge loss for a Cowboys defense that struggled with tackling all year (119th nationally). The content on this page is for informational purposes only. We may be compensated for the links provided on this page. This leaves a huge hole for an Oklahoma State offense that relied heavily on its passing attack. The departure of Sanders will likely make way for freshman QB Garret Rangel, who appeared in three games this year for the Cowboys. Wisconsin relied on its running game and defense to find success this season. Unfortunately for the Pokes, Rangel added three interceptions that contributed to a 37-16 loss. Similarly, Oklahoma State lost its final two contests to finish at a disappointing 7-5. This is a matchup that will be defined by motivation. Most notable is the departure of QB Graham Mertz, who, like Sanders, has decided to use his last year of eligibility elsewhere. Wisconsin vs. Oklahoma State: Final thoughts and a prediction for ... (Saturday Tradition)

Wisconsin will try to end 2022 with a winning record and jumpstart a new era against Oklahoma State in Tuesday night bowl action.

Allen is driving the bus in Madison until further notice, but Wisconsin wants to be more versatile with its personnel. Combine that with a raw quarterback under center for the Badgers, and Allen is likely to see his normal workload. Making the Oklahoma State offense one-dimensional might be the key to a win. According to PFF, the Pokes finished with the worst tackling grade in the Big 12 (51.0) and averaged 13.8 missed tackles per game. Gio Paez (11 tackles) and Kaden Johnson (19 tackles) are expected to fill in for Benton and Herbig, respectively, but the duo combined for zero sacks and just a handful of pressures in limited reps. Rumors circulated that Allen could be transferring following the 2022 campaign prior to the season finale. But with a 4-3 finish, plus another loss to rival Minnesota in the season finale, AD Chris McIntosh sensed a change of direction for the program was warranted. Maema Njongmeta finished third in sacks (3.5) and led the Badgers in tackles for losses (10.5), but he’s a staple inside rather than on the edge. Monte Ball, James White, Melvin Gordon and Jonathan Taylor all made their mark at Camp Randall before going pro, and Allen certainly looks to be the next in line. The Pokes enter Tuesday ranked 117th, and will be without star linebacker Mason Cobb, who elected to enter the transfer portal. Paul Chryst was fired for Leonhard, the pride of Badgers football, to be given a chance to earn the title of permanent head coach. Make no mistake, the Guaranteed Rate Bowl has plenty of reasons for Wisconsin fans to be glued to their televisions on Tuesday night.

Wisconsin football: 3 takeaways from 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bowl win (Saturday Blitz)

Wisconsin football picked up an impressive win over Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl to kick off the Luke Fickell era.

But in his final game as the Badgers’ defensive coordinator, he pieced together another masterpiece, holding Oklahoma State’s offense in check for most of the game. It would be quite the test for a Badger team without a starting quarterback as Graham Mertz hit the transfer portal, but Wisconsin passed with flying colors. Jim Leonhard went 4-3 as head coach and led the Badgers to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl where they’d face an Oklahoma State team that spent a lot of the season in the AP Top 25.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Wisconsin wins 24-17 over Oklahoma State (CalBearsMaven)

With Chase Wolf under center, the Badgers would turn to Braelon Allen on their first drive. The sophomore running back registered the first 36 yards of the game ...

Oklahoma State would get right back in business with Garret Rangel finding Rashod Owens for a 41-yard gain to push the ball down into the red zone. The Badgers would fend off the Cowboys to bring up a fourth and one on the goal line, but Garret Rangel would throw an underhanded touchdown to Ollie Gordon while in the arms of Wisconsin linebacker Jordan Turner. Oklahoma State would respond with a pair of first downs to move into Wisconsin territory late in the third quarter and then get into scoring positions on a 41-yard reception by Brennan Pressley. With the ball back, Chase Wolf got back into business on the next drive, throwing back-to-back completions to Chimere Dike, and then a third completion to Skyler Bell to give the Badgers a pair of first downs in Oklahoma State territory. The talented tailback ran hard behind the Wisconsin offensive line and finished the game with 116 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. However, the Badgers would go backward from there and ultimately punt the ball back to the Cowboys from plus territory after a six-yard loss by Braelon Allen and a Chase Wolf sack. Even with good field position, Oklahoma State could not muster a first down, and Mike Gundy opted to punt the ball back to the Badgers. Wisconsin wide receiver Chimere Dike would respond with a 41-yard kickoff return to set the Badgers up inside Oklahoma State territory on the next play of the game. Following six-straight runs, Wisconsin would manage to pick up two more first downs before Chase Wolf connected with Hayden Rucci on a short pass to move the ball into the red zone. From there, Wisconsin would have to punt the ball away, as the offense once again sputtered with minimal success in the passing game. After a quick first down by the Cowboys, the Wisconsin defense would force a punt and take over near the 30 yard-line. On the next drive, Wisconsin would pin Oklahoma State at their own 13-yard line on a great special teams play by Jackson Acker in kickoff coverage.

He played the back half of that go-ahead touchdown drive in the second quarter and was impressive. That type of churn-it-out touchdown drive hasn’t been a consistent piece of the Badgers offense this year, but the offensive line started moving Oklahoma State off the ball and setting up play-action passing opportunities. UW was getting its rushing attack going in the first half and built a 17-7 lead by halftime, but it didn’t sustain much offense in the second half. Things could’ve been worse for Rangel had UW senior safety John Torchio been able to hang onto a pick-six in the first half. It was the program’s eighth bowl win in the last nine years and the first win under coach Luke Fickell, who was on the sidelines for the first time since being hired on Nov. and 44-yard end-around run by Skyler Bell helped the Badgers ice a 24-17 win.

Stellar special teams bolsters Wisconsin football grade in bowl win (Kenosha News)

Columnist Jim Polzin offers high marks for the Badgers in their win over Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

(Rick Scuteri, Associated Press) Key players were missing on both sides and this is hardly a signature win given the circumstances. But they rallied together one last time to help end a strange season with a win. Rick Scuteri, Associated Press The 20-yard line. Oklahoma State’s average starting position on the day? There were some shaky moments in the fourth quarter, but this was a commendable outing in Jim Leonhard’s final game as UW’s defensive coordinator: 17 points allowed, two interceptions and seven three-and-outs in 14 series. Leonhard went out with a trademark performance. The tandem of Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi combined for 193 yard and two touchdowns. This was no easy task for Luke Fickell or any of the assistants, all of whom are headed elsewhere now that the season is over. The offensive line was solid in the run game and kept Wolf’s pocket clean for the most part. Quarterback Chase Wolf offered a winning performance in his first career start.
