Titans Drop Fifth Straight Game, This One a 19-14 Loss to the Texans (Tennessee Titans)

The result, well, it was not delightful for the Tennessee Titans. The Titans lost 19-14 to the Houston Texans on a frigid Saturday in Music City. "It's ...

It's on to the next. The margin for error is pretty thin, so when you give up some plays defensively, some x plays, and turn the ball over. Willis ran for a touchdown while completing 14-of-23 passes for 99 yards, but he also threw two interceptions late. The Titans then reclaimed the lead at 14-10 on a 14-yard touchdown run by Willis, who escaped the grasp of five Texans on the way to the end zone. "It's the most frustrating time (since I've been here). "It's extremely (difficult)," Titans safety Kevin Byard said.

Still, the TVA said Saturday it supplied more power in the past 24 hours than at any other time in its history. The Titans (7-7), losers of four straight games, began their game against the Houston Texans (1-12-1) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville at 1 p.m. Yesterday, (Nashville Electric Service) received only an 8 minute warning from TVA that rolling blackouts were being instituted. “This is a real struggle. The temperature was 22 degrees at kickoff, making it the coldest game in Nissan Stadium history, according to the CBS broadcast. We are exploring every possibility to minimize non-essential power around the stadium.” CT,” the Titans said in a statement. Tennessee Titans 'not built ... to overcome' repeated mistakes ... (The Tennessean)

Now on a five-game losing streak, Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel admits his team isn't built to overcome mistakes like it is making.

[lost their fifth straight game](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2022/12/24/tennessee-titans-resting-players-dallas-cowboys-game-week-17/69755513007/) Saturday, [falling 19-14 to a Houston Texans](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2022/12/24/tennessee-titans-score-houston-texans-malik-willis-cold-delay/69740570007/) team that before this game hadn't won since Oct. "I don’t know what to say right now," Byard said. But for now, I don’t know what to say." The Titans are averaging the same number of yards per play and a better third-down conversion rate during the five-game losing streak as they did before, but they've also scored touchdowns on 55% of their red zone trips compared to 74% before the losing streak and went from 1.1 giveaways per game to 1.6. But the Titans were dealt with injuries before the losing streak, too. "We’ve just got to take it one day at a time," Henry said. Injuries have ravaged the roster, culminating in the Titans playing most of Saturday's game down four of their Week 1 starting offensive linemen in front of a backup quarterback with a defense missing nearly all of its linebackers and cornerbacks. Defensively they've gone from creating 1.3 takeaways per game to 0.6 and they're averaging half as many sacks per game as they did before the losing streak. "It’s just how much are we doing outside of the time we’re at the facility? Now the Titans (7-8) have fallen into a tie [atop the AFC South](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2022/12/24/tennessee-titans-cold-weather-nashville-mayor-john-cooper-postpone/69755192007/) with the Jacksonville Jaguars after leading the race for the division's playoff spot last month by as many as four games. So we'll keep trying to improve those things, the consistency, the ability to sustain drives, the ability to try to create turnovers, the things we would need to do right now." Houston's offense went three-and-out six times, and Houston's defense let the Titans rush for almost six yards per carry.

Titans' winners and losers from Saturday's loss to Texans (Titans Wire)

The expectation has always been he’d need a year to develop. The superstar running back has fumbled the ball six times in total this season, losing three. The offensive line sucks in pass protection, and his play-caller is inept. One of the four sacks permitted on Malik Willis saw Daley fall asleep at the wheel, which allowed a free rusher to get to the rookie. Cunningham also re-injured his elbow, which has been giving him problems all season long. Hell, with the way Cunningham played today, maybe it’s time to start Gibbens even if he plays. The rookie also added a pass defensed on an interception that halted another Houston drive. Otherwise, Henry averaged just 3.5 yards per carry on his other 22 attempts. Not only did he allow a sack, but his holding penalty negated a 22-yard completion from Willis to Treylon Burks. As we do every week, let’s take a look at the winners and losers. Gibby tallied eight tackles (four solo), one of which thwarted a potential Texans touchdown drive. Daley stood out for all the wrong reasons once again.

Former NFL head coach has three reasons to fire Titans OC Todd ... (A to Z Sports)

Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan sounded off on Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing over the offense's ineptitude.

He added seven carries for 43 yards and a score on the ground. Though it’s coming to an end soon enough, his time as the Titans’ play-caller can only be described as an unmitigated disaster. Give Derrick Henry the football!" The rookie quarterback went 14-of-23 for 99 yards, tossing two costly interceptions. “Here’s another one: If the quarterback, Malik Willis, throws the ball over 15 times today, fire the coordinator. If he doesn’t, fire the guy,” Ryan said.

RB Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans)

Derrick, can you talk about the play on the fumble? Did it get ripped out there? I was trying to break a tackle. Trying to get a few extra yards.

I think (Mike) Vrabel wants us to embrace the grind and appreciate the game, the highs and lows, the adversity it brings and I feel like guys will do their best to do what he's asking. We know that outside of the building, there's a lot that you put in to prepare for a game. I think Coach (Mike) Vrabel just wants us to embrace this whole thing, day by day, what it requires, the grind and continue to have emphasis on those things so guys are available, guys are healthy, guys are coming in and doing what they need to do to come out here and compete and help us win games. I think you just pull the positive things from this game, because we have a lot of good things that we did, and look at those and just try to build off of those. Just trying to find anything you can to be a better teammate, be a better leader and everybody is just trying to work as hard as they can to get a win. We have to build the positives and look at those things and see things that we can do more of and try to go out there and execute. And continue to push and have emphasis on those things and continue to work hard so it helps for whenever we come out of the next game, which is Thursday. And I'm trying to work as hard as I can this upcoming week to try to prevent that from happening. Sorry to everybody out there that (inaudible) the fumbles but I'm going to do whatever I can to get better. I've apologized to my teammates because I've got to take care of the ball. We've got a short week, so we've got to have a short memory. I need to do a better job taking care of the ball.

Biggest takeaways from Titans' Week 16 loss to Texans (Titans Wire)

As we pick up the pieces from the Mike Vrabel era-worst fifth-straight loss, here are some of the biggest takeaways from it. It wasn't all Malik Willis' ...

Should Cunningham sit, the starting job should be Dr. It remains to be seen if Cunningham will play again this season, but even if he does, Gibbens has earned the right for an extended look moving forward. The two biggest standouts on defense on Saturday were Denico Autry and Jack “Dr. Of course, Autry making a major impact is nothing new, but Gibbens was a surprise. And, he has lost three of those four in that span. The Alabama product has six fumbles all season, but four of them have come in the last three contests.
