And the two deaths bring Connecticut to a record total of 69 pedestrians and cyclists killed this year. Two pedestrians lost their lives this week in West Hartford, and another was grievously injured, in three separate incidents that included a hit-and-run on Tuesday. Why is 'Merry Christmas' such a common Christmas greeting? Why does the UK wish a 'Happy Christmas'? Here is a short history of the greeting.

I’m off to enjoy some leftover meatloaf with lettuce and bask in the glory of the Festivus pole. While we were strictly limited to two or three strands of tinsel at a time, they would grab a wad and hurl it at the tree. Mom’s side of the family was more cerebral and we usually drove out to Brooklyn and Queens the day after Christmas to see them. Mom’s side of the family had a unique way of decorating the Christmas tree. That whole side of the family were and are hilarious, smart-alecky jokers. The seatless person stands in the center and yells out two or more fruits. Attending The Nutcracker every year at City Center and later at brand spanky new Lincoln Center is one of my best childhood Christmas memories. The feats of strength occur during dinner, and Festivus is over when the head of the household is pinned. Two of the sisters had remained single and lived together, while Grandma and the other sister had husbands and adultish children, of whom my dad was the oldest. There were also beautiful glass bowls of M&Ms and other candies adorning every surface in the house. Being childfree, they loved to spoil the kids and grandkids of their sisters. A clock is put in a bag and nailed to the wall.

For a while it became a taunt, “I’ll wish you a Merry Christmas, and I dare you say something.” After a while the words Merry Christmas became once again mostly accepted. Right after Thanksgiving, I make a point to say “Merry Christmas!” with gusto accompanied with a big smile. So I don’t get why there are so many people who still fight the Christian aspect of the holiday. Most originated in the Nordic region and Germany, all gave gifts in some form or another and all were loved, real or not. Last week I attended the Cambria Christmas Market with my family. The most woke company in the world, Disneyland, jumped on the anti-Christmas sleigh and joined in as well. For a while, things got so bad, people cowered and merely mumbled “Happy Holidays.” To say Merry Christmas had become an offensive statement. It took a few years and people started pushing back. But ironically if there’s any place on the planet that has focused more on Christmas, it’s the Magic Kingdom. And as always, the media jumped on it. However, the attack on Christmas was very real. For reasons I don’t understand, a large portion of the left hates Christianity.
