Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears: Weather, score, live updates (Rochester Democrat and Chronicle)

Buffalo can clinch the AFC East division title with a victory over Chicago at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve at Soldier Field.

Fields completed to Jones for 8 yards and Chicago went for it on fourth-and-3, with defensive end Ed Oliver tipping Fields' pass at the line of scrimmage. Rookie Trenton Gill's punt took a favorable bounce and traveled 63 yards to the Bills' 2. Justin Fields' completion to Khalil Herbert lost 2 yards and Fields recovered a bad snap out of shotgun for a 14-yard loss. James Cook took a short pass 9 yards, rushed for 6 yards and a first down and then sprinted off left tackle for 16 yard to the Bears' 20. Allen hit Gabe Davis along the left sideline and the play was originally called a completion before a review ruled it incomplete. Fields pass was short of the first-down marker and went off the hands of Khalil Herbert. Isaiah McKenzie took a handoff 6 yards and Nyheim Hines ran for 2 yards and Allen flipped a pass to Devin Singletary for 10 yards on third down. Justin Fields is 8 of 12 for 55 yards and a TD and David Montgomery has 60 yards rushing on nine carries. David Montgomery ran for 4 yards on second down to the Bears' 27 but the Bills' didn't burn their second timeout and the Bears didn't make an effort to throw the ball to get into field goal range. Josh Allen avoided pressure and scrambled 15 yards to the Bills' 49. Justin Fields was sacked for a 5-yard loss on first down and the Bills called their first timeout with 44 seconds left, seemingly intent on getting the ball back. Dane Jackson knocked the ball loose from David Montgomery on a run and it was recovered by defensive tackle Tim Settle at the Bears' 35.

The loser of that game is out of contention for the top seed in the AFC. His previous long was a 30-yard carry against the Buffalo couldn’t get out of their own way on that possession, gained two yards, and punted, and with a good return, the Bears were already in field goal range. Still, the Bills couldn’t close out the game. Something clicked for the Bills after halftime, because they scored two touchdowns on their first two drives, while the defense forced a fumble, then two three-and-outs. The Bills played a superb red zone sequence, forcing a 4th & 3 at their 16-yard line. A 40-yard kickoff return gave the Bears impressive starting field position, and after a first down conversion, they were in Buffalo territory. The Bills held them out of the end zone, but kicker Cairo Santos scored a 37-yard field goal and the Bears led 10-6. For one more week, the Bills maintain their position as the top seed in the AFC.

Top 3 things we learned from Bills vs. Bears | Week 16 (BuffaloBills.com)

D-line shuts down Fields, run game fuels third quarter scoring explosion, Bills keep lead for AFC No. 1 seed.

"Credit to the offensive line and Motor (Singletary) and James (Cook) they did a great job," said McDermott. "Just executing, getting to stuff that we know," said Allen of the two quick scoring drives that took control of the game. That's a good football team that we're going to go see and it's going to be a Monday night game primetime. "Executing at a higher level than we were in the first half and then that takeaway, I think it was Dane Jackson that got the takeaway and maybe Tim (Settle) recovered. "He runs around a lot, but we caught him in the pocket a couple of times while he was just sitting there holding the ball, and that's what you got to do to him," said Ed Oliver of Fields. "Obviously, playoffs, division title, and we know what the next one is. And then you're beating yourself with penalties, so we got to get that cleaned up." The Bills' offense has scored almost twice as many points in the second quarter this season (147) than any of the others, but on Christmas Eve in Chicago they went scoreless, and it was a struggle. "Those guys have been playing like that all season long and the job they did to be able to contain a guy like Justin Fields, I mean it was awesome," said Jordan Poyer. Motor Singletary capped the drive with a 33-yard touchdown run after right tackle Spencer Brown sprung him with a kick out block just past the line of scrimmage. Buffalo's defense also had 11 tackles for loss in the game, with Shaq Lawson chipping in a pair, including a key third down stop. Milano additionally had a great open field tackle on Fields on third down in the fourth quarter to force a Chicago punt.

Allen, Poyer, Oliver & McDermott share emotions on AFC East clinching win + Christmas Eve spent in Chicago.

When we went to go play in Detroit two times and both of those games were close, we were just scratching and clawing just to pull out a win. "It just shows that we've got a lot of great leaders on this team and a lot of young guys that just bought into everything that we do here. As of Saturday evening, the plan is to attempt to fly out of Chicago and into Rochester, NY on Sunday morning. Yes, it's a shame we can't get home, but there are a lot of people who have got it a lot worse than we do out there, including some people back home right now." But having overcome challenges a handful of times already this season, Allen acknowledged that these moments are chances for the team to learn and get better from. Not a lot of people want to come to Buffalo in late January, early February."

5 takeaways from the Bills' 35-13 win over the Bears (Bills Wire)

Buffalo Bills takeaways from Week 16 win over the Chicago Bears, 35-13, including QB Josh Allen, Justin Fields.

Down 7-0, the Bills scored a touchdown and Bass missed the extra point. Special teams problems bled all over the unit a bit. His struggled made the Bills decide to go for two-point conversions afterward. Not against the Bears. At least, not like he was early in 2022. Allen forced things too much, leading to his 15-for-26 overall day passing with only 172 yards.
