What should the Atlanta Falcons expect from Ridder in game two? (Blogging Dirty)

The Atlanta Falcons rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder will be making his second career start against the Ravens. Baltimore is clearly an upgrade defensively ...

Playing on the road in New Orleans is never easy but the competition for the rookie is clearly going to be tougher. Starting quickly is going to be so important for the rookie coming off of a very rough debut. Baltimore is clearly an upgrade defensively compared to the New Orleans team that Ridder faced last week and should be a much tougher test.

The past few months have had rough times but there are definitely some “presents” the Atlanta Falcons have been given. Anyways, for the holiday season, we are going to go over some gifts the Falcons have been given over this whacky 2022 season. We still have a chance to see the Falcons compete in mid-January.

What stood out in Falcons contest vs. Baltimore Ravens (AtlantaFalcons.com)

Atlanta loses fourth straight game, this one on Christmas Eve.

The drive lasted nearly seven minutes and established the Ravens run game. The Ravens marched down the field, scoring a touchdown and a 2-point conversion on the ensuing drive, cashing in on a Falcons miscue to go up two scores. The Falcons fell behind early and couldn't get going, failing to score more than 20 points in their fourth straight game. I'm loathe to bring up officiating in any circumstance, largely believing outcomes are decided by play on the field. To make matters worse, they were at the Ravens 1-yard line twice and came away with just three points. The Falcons just wanted to get back on the winning track after losing three straight and five of six, outside of any fleeting NFC South title hopes.

Falcons QB Desmond Ridder Finding Rhythm? 3 Takeaways From ... (Sports Illustrated)

Despite the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder had a promising performance.

The penalty helped hold the Falcons to a field goal before the half. Wide receiver Olamide Zaccheus was called for a very controversial hold on the run play. First, amid the last Falcons drive of the first half. Ridder's performance looks like an improvement from his first start, where he didn't even break the 100 yards passing benchmark. Smith and the Falcons faithful believed that Ridder's arm was hit as he tried to throw the ball away. Despite two fumbles in crucial moments, he gives the former USC Trojan chance after chance.

Staff Reactions to the Ravens' 17-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons (Baltimore Beatdown)

It comes as no coincidence the lone touchdown drive featured Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins leading the charge. Along with the run game throttling their opponent, ...

Baltimore still got in their own way at times offensively in terms of play calling, but their defense stood tall to get the Ravens to their fourth double digit win in five seasons. Lamar Jackson is sorely missed in the passing game and will hopefully be back in time for the playoffs. The Ravens offense simply needs to make a few plays in the pass game and they can win every week. This was a cold, hard-nosed game between two similar-built teams and the Ravens showed they can out-muscle them and punch their ticket to the playoffs. Along with the run game throttling their opponent, the defense flourished as they denied the Falcons on the goal line and held them to three field goals. They got their wish (mostly) on one drive where the Ravens ran the ball on 11-straight plays and the offense went 62 yards downfield before capping it off with a receiving touchdown by wide receiver Demarcus Robinson.

Baltimore Ravens lock up playoff berth as defense stifles Atlanta ... (USA TODAY)

Tyler Huntley threw a first-half touchdown pass, and the Baltimore defense kept the Atlanta Falcons out of the end zone in a 17-9 victory Saturday.

The Ravens caught a break near the end of the first half. Atlanta did have two timeouts remaining, but the Ravens were able to get a first down and seal the win. Atlanta (5-10) went for it on fourth down near midfield, and Ridder found Drake London for a gain of 20. Although both teams were expected to rely on the run instead of their shaky passing games, Huntley did connect with Sammy Watkins for 40 yards and Mark Andrews for 36. The temperature at kickoff was 17 degrees, the lowest for a home game in franchise history. The Ravens won for the second time in three games without quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has been out with a knee injury.

Bair: What went wrong during losing run that eliminated Falcons ... (AtlantaFalcons.com)

BALTIMORE – Grady Jarrett didn't bother trying to hide it. Anger and disappointment was clear and present on his face. The veteran defensive tackle was ...

There will be plenty of time to ponder what comes next, but reflection on what has happened shows the Falcons weren't good enough in 2022 to let good times roll. But, if we're looking at this season as a singular entity, the Falcons weren't deep enough and didn't execute well enough in big moments to continue playing beyond their last scheduled game. There was the Drake London fumble on a comeback drive last week in a Saints rematch, the tipped pass in Washington that ended up a game-sealing interception. They didn't do well enough in the red zone and on critical downs to achieve that aim even with a run-heavy operation. One can recall so many off the top of the head, from the fourth-quarter interception against the Rams to the Marcus Mariota at home against New Orleans. "I think you can look at a lot of the progress being made, but we have to be able to play with a lead. The Falcons had to win out and get some help along the way, or lose two and pray for a miracle. The Falcons lost and both Carolina and New Orleans won, making it impossible for the Falcons to come out atop the NFC South. The defense would start slow and then show up on critical downs. We'll go back and look at all of them, but we have to find a way to get over that hump." They played tons of close games and were competitive but, as Jarrett pointed out above, the script was the same. The veteran defensive tackle was taking tape off his hands following a hard-fought, yet unwelcome 17-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, with media all around him.
