Lions vs. Jets final score: HUGE, late fourth-down TD gives Detroit ... (prideofdetroit.com)

The New York Jets' elite defense bested the Lions' hot offense—UNTIL IT MATTERED MOST.

Detroit moved it to midfield, and faced a fourth-and-inches at the two-minute warning. Instead, the Lions failed to convert, attempted a 54-yard field goal, and missed. The Lions offense tried to grind out a long, time-eating drive starting from their own 9-yard line. The Jets offense took over and quickly picked up a clutch third-and-5 with a contested catch from Tyler Conklin. While the Jets nearly scored a touchdown, they eventually ran out of time, and had to settle for a game-tying field goal as time expired in the first half. That was enough to stall the drive, and the Lions had to settle for a field goal. But that’s all the Lions could muster, and they would punt back to the Jets with 31 seconds left. With 1:03 left, the Lions had an opportunity to add to their lead before the half. On the next play, Goff went deep to Jameson Williams, who had a couple steps on the defender, but the pass was underthrown and broken up. The Lions offense went back to work and quickly got their way into Jets territory after DJ Chark took a slant for 18 yards. But the Lions defense got a quick three and out thanks to a pass breakup by Jeff Okudah on third-and-long. But thanks to a stingy run defense, the Lions got into a third down, and an unblocked James Houston picked up his fifth sack of the year (and one for every game he’s played).

The Lions are still in the playoff hunt in the NFC. The service offers a free one-week trial for both its regular and premium packages. Detroit is -110 on the moneyline while the Jets are -110. I would guess the winner of this game will get in the playoffs and the loser will not. The Lions have turned thing around at the right time.

Lions vs. Jets: Last-minute thoughts and game prediction (Lions Wire)

New York is 7-6 and is there largely because of a stiff, smartly coordinated defense. The Jets allow just 4.8 yards per play, a figure that ties them with the ...

Garrett Wilson is a budding star and should be a front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year, while TE Tyler Conklin is a reliable weapon over the middle. The Lions have been cruising in the red zone on both sides of the ball recently. The Lions defense cannot give up touchdowns to Zach Wilson when he guides the Jets into the red zone. If the Lions are going to find success on offense, it’ll be because left tackle Taylor Decker–who hasn’t allowed a pressure or committed a penalty in three of his last four games–and the line did more than just hold up against John Franklin-Myers and the Jets impressive front. The Jets allow just 4.8 yards per play, a figure that ties them with the 49ers for second in the league (the Eagles are the best). Hopefully the Lions can provide some heat and excitement for the fans today.

Lions vs. Jets quick thoughts: What Just Happened? (prideofdetroit.com)

It seems like the Jets may have watched the tape of what Justin Jefferson and the Vikings were able to do against the Lions in Week 14, then cut and pasted it. Will the ball somehow bounce off all three sides of the goal post and then bounce in and then you learn that the NFL has a rule for that being worth four points? In the waning moments of the fourth quarter that made things hard for the Jets and helped take valuable time off the clock. Teams like it when you coordinate a win over one of the best defenses in the league. Will they nail the huge field goal and send it to overtime where the Lions will lose the toss and then lose the game? No, I’m not talking about Ben & Jerry’s best flavor, I’m talking about the Lions defense allowing chunk play after chunk play in this game. The Lions struggled to get much going and when they did, they stalled out in the red zone multiple times despite coming into the game with the league's best red zone touchdown percentage. He laid out a beautiful block on the last man on Kalif Raymond’s punt return touchdown. The Jets defense, even missing Quinnen Williams, is a very good unit—one of the best in the NFL. They’re beating division leaders, they’re beating the league’s top defenses and they’re winning games on the road against winning teams. What can they do in both the near and the not-too-distant future? This team just keeps finding the way to get it done every week.

Jets most to blame for Week 15 loss vs. Lions (ClutchPoints)

Leading by four points at home Sunday with under two minutes to play, the Jets surrendered a 51-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Brock Wright. That the ...

And they lost this game against the Lions in the trenches. It was no thanks to the offensive line. That was the highlight of a ground game that averaged 2.3 yards per rush (50 yards on 23 carries). When the Jets fail to establish the running game this season, they lose. It was not his finest hour in the NFL. Zach Wilson was not bad in his return to the lineup. He missed open receivers, failed to sustain drives, and did not lead the Jets to nearly enough points against a so-so Lions defense. The coverage and tackling was poor. Yes, the Jets and most everyone at MetLife Stadium expected a run or QB sneak on 4th and inches. But allowing the game-winning touchdown on a 51-yard catch and run by tight end Brock Wright was inexcusable. Let’s start with this, the Jets defense did a really good job against a very good Lions offense. Safety Will Parks started in place of the injured Lamarcus Joyner and led the team with nine tackles, including one on the goal-line stand.

Lions vs. Jets: Detroit snap count notes and PFF grade breakdown (Lions Wire)

Detroit exited the game without any significant new injuries, a pleasant development that leads to a pretty insightful snap count tally. The initial game grades ...

By way of comparison, PFF had rookie safety Kerby Joseph on the hook for two receptions allowed. Hutchinson played 54 snaps, the most of any of the linemen. Rookie Malcolm Rodriguez played 36 of the 63 snaps, Chris Board and Jarrad Davis played 10 each. Aidan Hutchinson earned the top grade for Detroit’s defense with an overall 83.4. Early tracking indicates the Lions used three or more LBs on nine of the 63 defensive snaps. Anzalone logged a team-high four QB hurries, none more important than on the Jets’ final offensive play. That’s his lowest ADOT of the season and well below his 7.6-yard average. The top offensive overall grade went to WR Amon-Ra St. Detroit used an extra lineman a total of four times, with Dan Skipper playing three snaps and Matt Nelson two; they were both on the field for one play. 4 RB Craig Reynolds was inactive for the game. D’Andre Swift played 27 of the 68 snaps, followed by Justin Jackson (22) and then Williams (21). The three-WR set dominated the day.
