Black Adam: Post-Credits Scene, Messy DC Cameo Explained as ... (CNET)

Dwayne Johnson's antihero adventure comes to HBO Max, and his encounter with the most powerful being in DC's cinematic universe hits different now.

The character showed up in similar fashion in 2019's Shazam, where he was only seen from the neck down (and portrayed by [Ryan Handley](https://www.instagram.com/p/B2CXKIngYaV/)). [The Suicide Squad](/culture/entertainment/the-suicide-squad-movie-review-james-gunn-riotous-supervillain-romp-gleeful-gory-glorious/) and Peacemaker, as well as Marvel's [Guardians of the Galaxy series](/culture/entertainment/guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-3-trailer-reunites-marvel-space-adventurers/)) and producer Peter Safran, will [lead the reorganized DC Studios](/culture/entertainment/james-gunn-is-taking-charge-of-dc-movies/). He's become more nuanced in the decades since, shifting toward a dark antihero who often enters into uneasy alliances with the heroes (mostly because he's a violent, unpredictable and kind of a jerk). With [Dwayne Johnson](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0425005/) in the lead role, Adam beats up hero and villain alike after being released from a 5,000-year imprisonment, from the early scenes until the credits roll (the post-credits scene is comparatively chill). 14, Cavill said he met with the pair, who told him their interpretation of DC's cinematic universe needed a fresh interpretation of the character -- Gunn later confirmed this [in a tweet](https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1603205520252289024). Now, I don't know if Black Adam lands the last punch," he said. "Among those on the slate is Superman," he wrote. "I think Black Adam lands the first punch. However, Cavill later announced that the fight's been called off -- he "It's been a while since anyone's made the world so nervous," the Kryptonian hero says. Still, it's a big spectacular time at the movies, and what more do you want from the Rock?" She warns him to stay in Kahndaq or she'll send extremely powerful people who owe her favors to stop him.

Black Adam's HBO Max Release Timing Couldn't Be Worse (Screen Rant)

Given the latest news from DC Studios, the bad timing of Black Adam's streaming release on HBO Max makes it less momentous than previously expected.

But watching Black Adam for that specific scene now doesn’t have the same attraction – the tease of a Black Adam versus Superman confrontation is now unlikely to lead anywhere. It has to be noted that not every movie that underperforms at the cinema suffers the same fate once it hits streaming. This was not to last, however, as now, it has officially been announced that Cavill will not be continuing his role as the Man of Steel. Given that one of Black Adam’s major draws was Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, it seems unlikely that Black Adam will perform much better on streaming. Unless Black Adam does unexpectedly well on HBO Max, its future is uncertain at best – especially as the streaming service is itself currently facing troubling cancelations and sudden removals at the moment. With Black Adam performing below expectations, however, the chance of a

The tension of a man whose job it is to report on Adam being his best friend is the kind of fun riff on a figure like Alfred or Jim Gordon that Priest leans into. His death symbolizes the death of the future, of possibility, of a different, more hopeful path for Black Adam. Sobek was introduced as a dark mirror of Tawky Tawny, the strange super best-pal of the squad. The character is very much a clear contrasting riff on Captain Marvel Jr./Freddie Freeman, who also had to say the name of the family’s leading figure (“Captain Marvel!”) to transform into a teen superhero. So when all hell breaks loose and Isis dies in the apocalypse, it underlines a key truth about the Black Adam Family: There is never going to be a happy ending. Isis is every bit Adam’s equal, both in power and a strong, unrelenting view of the world, and it’s why they end up getting married, in a grand ceremony in Kahndaq. A person committed to making the world better, Isis is the family member who most grounds Black Adam, who makes him better, and helps him be the ideal he hopes to embody. So of course when the time came to introduce a new figure into Shazam mythology, a DC revamp of Isis was inevitable. And in the pages of It’s a choice that over the years has seemed strange to comic fans who only knew Black Adam as Shazam’s opposite, a former magical champion who was corrupted by his powers before eventually becoming a DC antihero.

While battling for the soul of a young girl, Ann is brought face-to-face with the very demon that once tormented her family years ago. Beyond going in prepared for tremendous amounts of blood and some brief, intense violence, Bones and All is the kind of film that’s better experienced in the moment than in descriptions. The Banshees of Inisherin is a return to familiar territory for writer-director Martin McDonagh: It plays like a spiritual sequel to his pitch-black 2008 comedy-thriller In Bruges.
