While plenty of horror-movie monsters and slashers have taken their murderous talents to Manhattan (remember when Jason went?), it will be interesting to see how the Big Apple translates to a Scream movie, and what it means for the franchise’s meta element. This time around the cast, including the killer(s), head to New York City, giving the franchise a new setting and a new look.

The surviving cast, minus series “Final Girl” Neve Campbell, are all returning for this latest Ghostface hunt as well. However, the one this new mask shares the closest resemblance to is “Zombie” Ghostface. However, what we do know is this film takes the franchise to New York City for a Halloween slasher nightmare. This is sure to get Scream fans’ tinfoil hats blazing as this rabid horror community has theorized that Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher has been alive for years despite his TV “death” in the first film. If that’s indeed the case, could this mean that someone from Scream’s past is coming back from the dead to don the mask again or for the first time? That was another one of the really interesting risks and creative approaches in this movie.

Where the previous five entries have largely taken place in Woodsboro, California, the hometown of protagonist Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell), this one moves to the Big Apple. Although the movie adds exciting actors like Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori, and brings back fan-favorite Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) from The tension grows when one of the Ghostfaces turns their head to stare directly at the teens. Unfortunately, the actual movie mostly consists of Jason hunting down an exceptionally dull set of teens on a boat, and only arrives in New York for the final 30 minutes. The quartet seem to be enjoying some carefree laughs on Halloween night when Sam notices that some of the people in the car are dressed like Ghostface. Things won't be easy in Scream 6, where it could be more challenging for the characters to get away (if they rely on public transportation), and Ghostface will be more likely to come across more bystanders they could easily kill if they get in their way. While [Scream 2022](https://screenrant.com/tag/scream-5/) was seen as a solid addition to the series by both critics and viewers (and proved a blockbuster success as a result), Scream 6 will be the first Scream movie not to feature Neve Campbell's iconic Final Girl Sidney Prescott. As outlined above, the killer will have more opportunities to strike than ever before and will be harder to hunt down.
