Our Lady of Guadalupe and True Human Nature - Word on Fire (Word on Fire)

Through her visitation to in 1531, the Mother of God brought her Son to the peoples of Mexico, and her invitation for all the peoples to know Christ and to serve him continues to resound from the great shrine in Mexico City that the Church built to honor Christ’s Mother—knowing that in honoring her, her Divine Son is himself honored. In the saints, we see who God wants us to be and learn from them what it really means to be human. The elevation by Grace of the Mother of God sets her about a mission that immerses her into the human condition with an intensity that is as unique as her singular identity. Because of her elevated dignity we might be tempted to think of the Mother of God as a heavenly creature exempt from worldly cares and circumstances. The Mother of God did something no one else will ever do, and to prepare her for this, God permitted her to be unique in a way that makes her distinct from all humanity. This happened to prepare the Blessed Virgin Mary for her mission and purpose, which was to be the Mother of God—the singular and privileged means by which God would come into this world as a man, share with us a human nature, and live, like us, a real, human life.

What Our Lady of Guadalupe Means to a Former Abortionist (National Catholic Register)

The story of Guadalupe is an icon for our moment when mainstream women's health care proclaims — with callousness and absurdity — that elective abortion is ...

She taught me to hope and pray for the coming of his Word and Spirit that will renew both women’s health care and the Church — and to empower the Church for service. And to the churches, we must remember that she is our Mother. Am I not here, who am your Mother?” To me, her words are completely interconnected with women’s health and the Church. In order to bridge the gap and keep an open door to all patients regardless of their ability to pay, we started a fundraising organization called Divine Mercy Care that covers medical costs and other patient needs — from hospital delivery fees for a once abortion-minded mother to providing an Uber ride for a patient without transportation, or a hotel room for a patient who needs a safe place to stay. And here was Our Lady of Guadalupe, with a sash around her waist, indicating in Aztec tradition that she was with child, carrying the Christmas promise of the Christ Child in her womb. Our Lady also asked me to see the poor and see them daily, so I was determined to welcome all patients into our office, including the physically, emotionally, spiritually or financially underserved. I realized that the voice I had heard two years earlier in Mexico was a missed opportunity. So I brushed it off and dismissed whatever voice I thought I’d heard that day at the foot of Tepeyac Hill. The scales fell from my eyes, and the weight of my sin melted away. I nervously scanned the faces in the pews around me, searching for the owner of the voice or any indication that someone else had heard the booming question as well. I took those ideas with me to medical school and applied them to what I was learning about women’s reproductive health.

I don’t know if it was a correlation to his respect for life, or that he and my mother went to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He purchased a beautiful image of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the parish, and it hangs in the family center for all to enjoy. The parish, plenty of Venezuelans in a beautiful and brand-new church, was dedicated to OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE. My father knew he wanted to work for the Church – in an environment where life is respected from conception to death – an environment where there’s dignity and respect and reverence. When I arrived, I realized OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE WAS IN EVERY CORPORATE LOGO. In October 2019, I received a call from a priest asking me if I was available to travel to Chicago for a new project. Who am I to have Our Lady in my house?” This moment touched me so deeply that when everyone went away, I fell to my knees and prayed privately: “My Lady… My wife and I used to sing for Mass at San Josemaría Escrivá Parish in Caracas. We ask for Our Lady of Guadalupe’s intercession in all we do, from the Angelus and fifteen-minute meetings to the Divine Mercy Chaplet and buying new stations. In appearing to St. Juan Diego in 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary gave saint a message that changed the world, bishop says.

“We are not sad Catholics; we are a band of joyful missionaries because we know the Lord — because we have the intercession of Our Blessed Mother of Guadalupe,” Bishop Cepeda said. "And despite his doubts and fears, despite the fact that his uncle is seriously ill, despite the fact that he is asking the bishop of Mexico City to erect a church, Mary continues to invite him to be faithful to the mission that is before him. Vigneron's pastoral letter for the Archdiocese of Detroit, Unleash the Gospel, Bishop Cepeda said. “Mary of Guadalupe, our Mother, entrusts this message even to Juan Diego, an Indian who has just been converted, to a humble person with a humble heart," Bishop Cepeda said. The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas, is celebrated each year on Dec. Although an important feast day for those of Mexican descent, the apparitions are a reminder for the entire Church of Mary's protection and companionship, Bishop Cepeda said.

The community is coming back, she said, and bishops’ presence was significant because it shows that “we are important as a community.” Megan Rohrer, then-bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Sierra Pacific Synod, announced that Rabell-González had been fired in response to “continual communications of verbal harassment and retaliatory actions,” Rohrer said at the time. Our Lady of Guadalupe: A “River of Light” in New York – Exaudi (Exaudi)

But the prominent location that the painting has today -in the Cathedral context- is the place that was the tabernacle of the Cathedral, to the right of the main altar. As founder of the organization “Mensajeros de María de Guadalupe” she has dedicated herself with her institution to spread in New York and throughout the Americas the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Marian devotion that embodies what is Latin-American and that brings together the most valuable of our origins, our story, our faith, and our culture. For the visit of Pope John Paul II to New York, the aforementioned painting of the Guadalupana was transferred and hung over the main altar to preside over the visit of the Holy Father to the Cathedral, and for the praying of the Holy Rosary, which was guided by the universal Shepherd before the revered image. The same request, with the best example of patience and Christian devotion, was made by Margarita on several occasions to Cardinals Cook and O’Connor. Today we can say that there are rivers of faithful devotees who come daily to honor the Mother of God and our Mother under the invocation of the Virgen Morena (the dark Virgin,) Mexican, Latin-American, American and Amerindian, in the beautiful colonial painting in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. The painting is authored by an anonymous artist from the 18th Century.
