Steve Martin and Martin Short host this weekend's "Saturday Night Live," with musical guest Brandi Carlile.
“Saturday Night Live” stars Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman, Punkie Johnson, Andrew Dismukes and Michael Che and Colin Jost as the hosts of Weekend Update. Some of the lyrics: “Elon, why does he own all the stuff? Why does he have to run Tesla and Twitter? We basically all agreed three years ago: Hitler should never come back.” Short shot back, “Oh, Steve, you bland overrated son a bitch where did you go?.. Too late.” Short’s last words, he said, were “Tesla auto pilot, engage.”
The two seasoned comedians brought their playful rivalry to this week's episode, which featured the musical guest Brandi Carlile.
That scene was parodied with an absurdist affection in this sketch, where Short, Martin and Strong sing enthusiastically about snow without seeming to understand what it is, and Thompson plays a fellow passenger who is pleasantly baffled by their antics. With Raphael Warnock’s win, Democrats in the Senate will no longer have to rely on Vice President Harris for tie breaking votes. But let’s at least admit that it has a couple of bizarre numbers, Breaking into song, they explained that the holidays made it OK for them to push off their personal worries for a few more weeks. (Yang listed the major causes for concern: “War, climate change, the Prince Harry-Meghan Markle documentary.”) Having shown a photograph of himself with Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi and Mick Jagger, Martin quipped that after it was taken, “We tested positive for everything.” It was shaping up to be good week for Joe Biden. Beginning his imaginary remarks, Martin said: “Wow, not much of a turnout. In another verse, Yang asked: “Since when did Hitler come back? Short then launched into his own tribute, saying: “There are so many great things that I could say about Steve Martin. “So I thought: why wait?” he continued. So, taken to its logical extension, the two should be at their funniest when imagining themselves at each other’s funerals.

Hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost took on the World Cup, Brittney Griner, Kyrsten Sinema, and the SantaCon bar crawl. He opens the window and asks the schoolboy (Sarah Sherman) below to go buy the prized goose down the street for Tiny Tim and his family. And there’s a stenographer. Selena Gomez, their “Only Murders” co-star, made a quick surprise appearance at the end. Martin and Short play Dr. Bowen Yang, Cecily Strong, and Keenan Thompson sing about personal problems that they’re blocking out until Christmas — Thompson’s drinking problem and Yang’s mental health among them — before they’re joined by Sarah Sherman and Ego Nwodim and continue to make various cultural references.

The live audience erupted into applause when in walked Kieran Culkin, who played Annie’s little brother, Matty, in the film and its sequel. “Marty was taken away from us too soon. They hire a wedding planner named Franck [Short], who plans an over-the-top affair.
The Rolling Stone cover star joined her 'Only Murders in the Building' pals during their SNL co-hosting gig — after the duo mocked Harry and Meghan.
“Wow, not much of a turn out!” exclaimed Martin. “Marty did not want to be cremated. You bland, overrated, white-haired son of a bitch! Where did you go! 10 episode marked Martin’s 16th time hosting the sketch-comedy show—second only to Alec Baldwin’s 17—and Short’s third, a point Martin wasted no time pointing out to his pal. Martin Short and Steve Martin take over the Science Room, and get easily frustrated with their students in a new sketch.
We get to see just how hard each of these teachers are trying, and the lengths that it takes to break them into finally just snapping about the kids not getting it. With Martin and Short as their teachers though, it's even more chaotic than the previous times we have seen this sketch. Science is hard but it is made much harder when you have Cecily Strong and Mikey Day as your students.
Go hug someone the way Selena Gomez hugged Martin during the goodnights—straight from the heart.
“Hollow like a piece of penne.” The writer’s room should get an Emmy for that bit of dialogue alone. In the “How to Treat Your Man with Minky Carmichael” sketch, Short played a talk show host with a taste for Arsenio Hall blazers and a cheerful disdain for women. They saved their best sketch for last—a Father of the Bride sequel. Martin, resplendent in a purple suit, and Short, the rubber to Martin’s straight man, kicked off by celebrating their number of times hosting. One likes to imagine they shared a cab from the set of Only Murders in the Building down to Rockefeller Plaza for the gig. Tis the season of magic, so Lorne Michaels gifted us with the double pleasure of Steve Martin and Martin Short, the best two-hander in town.

A delight of the sketch came when Short was being aggressively mean to Annie as Franck and saying she needed to get plastic surgery to be pretty again and insinuates that George Banks pay for his daughter's vaginal rejuvenation. One of the sketches that brought us back to the movies that made up our childhoods was a sketch about the Father of the Bride movies, which starred both Martin and Short. George Banks is in debt because of how many weddings that Annie has had throughout the years, including one where Nicki Minaj performed because this is, as Martin says, a Nancy Meyers kind of wedding, and you have to go out every time for them!
