Mavericks on the clock with Luka Doncic: Win now before it's too late (FanSided)

Per ESPN NBA insider Tim McMahon, the Mavs may be closer than they think to some unwanted Doncic drama. “I think they have a two-year window. This season and ...

The supporting cast around Doncic currently is not nearly good enough. He won a EuroBasket championship with the Slovenian national team. I’m just saying at that point if he’s not happy, he has all the leverage in the world if he would be looking for leave.” However, in a league where the players hold all the cards, an unhappy Doncic would put the Mavericks between a rock and a hard place. Still, we’ve seen players of his caliber (especially of late) force their way to a bigger market or a better team for less. Luka has made the Western Conference Finals once in his brief NBA tenure, but considering his talent level, he ought to feel he can compete at that level year-in and year-out.

Are struggling Mavericks on the clock with Luka Doncic? (NBC Sports)

Luka Doncic is in the first year of a five-year contract and said Mavericks' fans don't need to worry about him leaving. But the Dallas front office might.

I’m just saying at that point if he’s not happy, he has all the leverage in the world if he would be looking to leave.. I think they have a two-year window where, you know, like Milwaukee did with Giannis [Antetokounmpo], I think in that window they really need to convince Luka that he has a chance to contend year in and year out right here in Dallas. But if he doesn’t have to look for reasons and they’re slamming him in the face, then that’s a problem. That doesn’t mean Doncic will ask out at the deadline or this summer (he won’t), but if his frustration grows over the next couple of years… This remains a team a player or two away from contending despite having a potential MVP in Doncic carrying a historic offensive load. Luka Doncic is in the first year of a five-year, $215.2 million contract.

Luka Doncic Drops Bid to Cancel Mom's Trademark of His Own Name (Bloomberg Law)

NBA star Luka Doncic withdrew his bid to cancel a “Luka Doncic 7" trademark owned by his mother at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

He had filed to withdraw the case Monday. The end of the dispute denies the board a chance to potentially address a novel question: whether revoking consent to use one’s name in a trademark registration can lead to its cancellation. The TTAB noted Luka99 Inc.'s motion to withdraw his cancellation petition with prejudice Thursday and ended the proceeding.

What's been learned about Luka Dončić and every Mavericks player ... (The Athletic)

With about one-quarter of the NBA season complete, Tim Cato takes a deeper dive and ranks the players.

Pinson’s signing as a constant locker-room amplifier is deserved, but he’s not going to factor into meaningful minutes this season unless the team has a series of absences. I think there’s a decent chance he has more meaningful moments than the next player listed. Bertans is providing more impactful minutes in the past couple of weeks than any other player who comes below him. [Jalen Brunson](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/jalen-brunson-uGz2UuQlVMHyp5KN/) much more than Wood could. In the meantime, it’s clear how important Wood is to the team. Wood is the team’s only other player who can reliably create shots beyond the first two players listed here. He earned this spot above the next player for one reason: coach Jason Kidd is hesitant to play He’s the best player on the court just about every night and probably the best player in the world. More often, he’s the player causing the panic. Dinwiddie’s new role on the team means he’s a somewhat different player than last season. Today, I’m writing about every player on the roster, and I’ll organize them into tiers of importance. The hope is that more pragmatic rotation decisions and role players coming out of slumps will make this team look more like it has this past week than the preceding ones.

Luka Doncic, Mavs have a major free throw problem (ClutchPoints)

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks have a free throw problem, and once again, it has cost them a win. On Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Mavs were ...

If the Mavs want to compete in the playoffs and improve from last year’s Wester Conference Finals appearance, they have to make their free throws. In the first game of the season against the Phoenix Suns, their inability to hit their free throws was one of the reasons they collapsed and blew their 22-point lead. Luka Doncic was the only player to breach the 20-point mark against the Bucks, and sure enough, relying on one man won’t cut it in the playoffs. Dallas had 34 free throw attempts in the said game, but they made just 21. Overall, the Mavs were 10-of-24 from the charity stripe in the game. The Mavs as a team missed their last six free throws in the fourth quarter, with Tim Hardaway Jr.
