New 'Avatar 2' trailer shows underwater battle scenes (Time Out)

It's finally time to head back to Pandora in the first of many planned Avatar sequels on the way from James Cameron.

Although the interest in 3D has long since waned, Avatar: The Way of Water will be bringing back the technology – and then some. Disney will release an Avatar sequel every other year until 2028, so while it might have taken over a decade to return to the world of Pandora, don’t expect to leave anytime soon. Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in cinemas on December 16, 13 years after the original broke box office records around the globe.

(With all its variations, The Way of Water is reportedly releasing in more formats than any film before it.) But while the tech is complex, the pitch is very simple. This is their chance to have that feeling again, and there’s no way they can have it at home. In the trailer, Avatar: The Way of Water looks for all the world like an immersive natural-history documentary about an alien world. Despite the fact that the movie as been in development for eons — and that Cameron assembled a writer’s room to draft the storylines for this and no less than three additional Avatar sequels — The Way of Water still has an extremely vague logline. James Cameron REALLY Wants You To Know Avatar 2 Is Beautiful (Screen Rant)

Avatar: The Way of Water looks beautiful, and going by the visuals in the newest Avatar 2 trailer, James Cameron really wants you to know that.

As a big advocate of the movie-going experience, Cameron is definitely making a case for audiences to see Avatar: The Way of Water on the big screen. In fact, considering how much more ambitious the shots in the Avatar 2 trailer are compared to the first movie, especially the ones in the water, it’s safe to say Avatar: The Way of Water looks better than Avatar. [establishing shots of Pandora](https://screenrant.com/avatar-2-movie-pandora-navi-world-better-reason/) to close-ups of fully CG characters, the newest Avatar 2 trailer proves that James Cameron has succeeded in making Avatar: The Way of Water as beautiful as the first movie. Going by the first two Avatar: The Way of Water trailers, James Cameron wants audiences to know how beautiful Avatar 2 will be, and how much more ambitious the Avatar sequel is. Still, there was no other movie at that time that could compare to Avatar in terms of visuals, meaning that watching Avatar in theaters was a unique experience that no other release was offering. After years in which the only Avatar sequel updates were the fact that James Cameron was once again pushing movie-making technology to its limits, the marketing for Avatar 2 has finally begun.

Avatar 2 Repeats An Iconic Scene (& Teases The Sequel's New ... (Screen Rant)

The official trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water provided hints at a new romance story for the sequel, by repeating a scene from the first film.

It is likely that the Metkayina are wary of allowing their people to mix with the Omaticaya, especially with the If this is the case, then Lo'ak and Tsireya's love could be much like the romance between Lo'ak's parents was. The duo come from different tribes, meaning their love could be "forbidden" due to the differing tribes customs. The scene that is repeated in the Avatar 2 trailer is taken from Jake and Neytiri's relationship in the first film.
