Cam Akers' outlook on Rams future after trade deadline passes (ClutchPoints)

To the shock of many around the NFL, the Los Angeles Rams decided to hold on to running back Cam Akers past the trade deadline.

While he still intends to play, he doesn’t think that playing with the Rams again this season wouldn’t be in his “best interest”. A torn Achilles in 2021 limited him to just one game in the regular season. In recent weeks, Akers has found himself out of the Rams lineup.

Rams running back Cam Akers has seemingly been in the doghouse with Sean McVay since the start of the 2022 season, and the NFL trade deadline seemed like ...

-- While part of that is the fact the Rams receivers -- specifically Cooper Kupp -- take up a lot of air in the passing game, the other is that the Rams backs haven't been very effective. It would be surprising to see Akers take the field with the Rams again, as this benching seems permanent. Williams is starting to generate buzz for the Rams. But even so, he sometimes feels like a starter by default rather than someone the Rams place a ton of stock in. is the Rams' main back while Akers is being held out of games. Unofficially, it's less simple, with Ronnie Rivers starting last week makes it a bit more complicated, but that was with Henderson being sick and Rivers being up from the practice squad. is the No. Indeed, there doesn't even seem to be room for Akers in the Rams' running back depth chart. He has 53 touches for the team, 169 yards total. Though Akers is due a manageable $1.45 million for the final year of his rookie deal in 2023, the third-year back's middling production since he returned from a torn Achilles' tendon in Week 18 of last season likely limited the interest of potential suitors ahead of the deadline. While Anderson relays that Akers' relationship with the Rams remains amicable since he stepped away from the team during Week 6 prep, the 23-year-old apparently believes he's best served moving on from the organization entirely rather than rejoining the team in a backup capacity. No takers for Rams Akers at deadline. Can this be fixed? (Ramblin' Fan)

In LA Rams News: The team's relationship with RB Cam Akers appears unsalvageable, especially after no takers for Akers surfaced at the deadline.

Yes, the LA Rams have plenty of drama at the running back position in 2022. And the Rams have a proven track record for releasing players who are dissatisfied with the team. All of this is still the reality for the LA Rams running game. The Rams still favor the pass. And for the second season in a row, that dispute devolved into the LA Rams stating that they would be open to trading that player. The Rams never did find a trade partner, and eventually released the veteran to sign with another team.
