Your Roommate Is a Ghost. You're Not Alone. (The New York Times)

A recent story about haunted houses prompted existential debates and ghost story sharing in the comments section.

At first, I didn’t have the nerve to speak to it, so I wrote it a note and tacked it to my bedroom door. I’m a science nerd and so the fact that I just might believe really bugs me, but I cannot discount the unexplainable experience I had.” — Anonymous “I didn’t believe in ghosts. I called a friend that was a believer and followed her directions even though they felt hokey. “I didn’t believe in this kind of thing until I ran into it myself. People I interviewed told me about strange sightings and unexplained sounds, even a ghost that one homeowner thought could be homophobic.

Halloween 2022: Cutting Headcount, Tricksters And Ghost Jobs (Forbes)

This year's spooky season offers heads on the chopping block at Twitter, tricksters fooling a CNBC reporter, the most frightening words and actions you ...

To orchestrate it to seem that the interview process is fair, the unsuspecting applicant doesn’t stand a chance, as the decision was already made and you’re just part of the charade. One of the biggest things that depresses job hunters is when they see job listings that perfectly fit their background and excitedly apply to the roles only to then never hear back. One of the jokesters said his name was “Rahul Ligma”—a Gen-Z reference to a popular uncouth internet meme—and held a copy of Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, aloft while speaking to reporters. To appease the remaining workers that are dead tired from being overworked, the company places ads without any intention of finding a replacement. Recruiters have been aware of the proliferation of phantom jobs posted online for some time. They are forced to work longer hours without any pay increase. The candidate may lose interest in a job and just bail out of the interview without giving any advance notice. Firms list jobs that they have no intention of filling. A hiring manager decides that a job seeker does not possess a certain needed skill set, so they stop answering the candidate’s emails and telephone calls. The ghosts feel that by simply ignoring the other party, they’ll soon get the message. The Musk, now the self-appointed “Chief Twit” at Twitter, put his CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde and general counsel Sean Edgett on the chopping block.

Villa Carpena: The owners of this Italian mansion say it's haunted by ... (CNN)

As if showcasing the possessions of Benito Mussolini wasn't dark enough, the owners of this museum made from his former house say the ghosts of the fascist ...

"That day there was a medium with us, and the person felt sick, had to sit down and whispered 'he is here'. "You can really breathe history in here, and people I accompany all perceive this, beyond their political creed," he says. After Morosini bought the place, he says weird things started to happen. He apparently never invited any of his fascist cronies over. While many continue to condemn his fascist legacy, he remains a figure of fascination, for better or for worse. In October, we shift our focus to the offbeat, highlighting everything from (allegedly) haunted spaces to abandoned places. The noise of a plane was also recorded, says Pugliese, noting that it could have been linked to Mussolini's son Bruno, who was an aviator and died prematurely in a plane crash in 1941. And locals claim to have proof, as well. The garden features a gazebo where Mussolini used to read the morning paper on a stone table and the straw and drywall "children playhouse" with kitchen and bathroom he built for the children. Morosini says he has a passion for "memorabilia from the past" and bought the mansion from one of Mussolini's sons, extensively renovating it with antique furniture and decor. "I feel they respect us. Tourists on guided tours of the villa are invited to peer into the shadowy face, too, to get a glimpse of the distinctive square jaw, high forehead and prominent nose of the infamous dictator, who was executed as he tried to flee the country with his girlfriend in the final days of World War II in 1945.
