The 49ers connected on a touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo to George Kittle with under seven minutes remaining in the game. - Leonard Floyd recorded his first sack of the season. - The lack of explosive plays is preventing the offense from finding a rhythm. - Allen Robinson remained involved in the offense for the second straight game. Rams surprisingly start Ronnie Rivers at RB in Week 8 vs. 49ers (Rams Wire)

Cam Akers is involved in trade rumors ahead of the trade deadline while the Rams aren't ruling out the idea of keeping him if they can't conduct a trade.

Meanwhile, Darrell Henderson dealt with an illness during the week and was limited in practice, so he could see a reduced role on Sunday. Rivers signed with the Rams’ practice squad at the beginning of the season and he was elevated to the active roster in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, where he caught one pass for 14 yards. The Los Angeles Rams have lacked consistent production in the running game this season and they are trying everything to get a spark.

The Cardinals look like a serviceable team with the return of DeAndre Hopkins, and Pete Carroll’s [Seattle Seahawks](https://www.fieldgulls.com/) are one of the scrappiest teams in the NFL. But hey, at least he has a better winning percentage down three points or less at any point in the fourth quarter than Zac Taylor, Kevin Stefanski, and Kliff Kingsbury. I’d expect Ryans to stay aggressive with bump and run coverage, nickel blitzes, and bringing more people than the offensive line can block. Getting to Stafford won’t only help the 49ers get off the field, but it may rattle Stafford to gift the defense the ball. ‘Gucci Garropp’ has a hot hand in the red zone, and Shanahan needs to let him work. The 49ers rushed over 100 yards in two of their last three games but failed to wear out their last two opponents. Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo’s previous dominance over Los Angeles in the regular season means nothing after the Rams hoisted the [Vince Lombardi Trophy](https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/2/5/14515842/vince-lombardi-trophy-nfl-championship-super-bowl) last year. However, the offense will have to get over the hump of missing Kyle Juszczyk. Jeff Wilson averaged 7.7 yards per rush last week and should’ve been given the ball more. The 49ers must fight through another injury-riddled week, but I have three keys that can help below.

The 49ers evened their record to 4-4 on the season, while the Rams fall to 3-4 coming off their bye week. Then, the 49ers face Arizona in Mexico City, followed by New Orleans, Miami, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Washington, Las Vegas and Arizona. That becomes critical because the 49ers would hold any tie-breaker edge of their in-state rival. The division-leading Seattle Seahawks improved to 5-3 with an impressive win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

It was as good a chance as they’ve had to beat the 49ers in recent years, and they completely squandered the opportunity. They were coming off a bye, the 49ers were missing Deebo Samuel, Kyle Juzszcyk, Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw and others, and the Rams still couldn’t manage to keep the game close. It was by far his best game of the season, and not just because of the two sacks. If he can consistently pressure quarterbacks alongside Aaron Donald, it’ll give the Rams a much better chance to slow teams down and create turnovers. Against the 49ers, he caught five of seven targets for 54 yards, one of two Rams players with more than 15 yards. Finally, Floyd got on the board with his first sack of the season. Well, the Rams are back below .500 for the second time this season – and just the second time in Sean McVay’s career. Sure, they hit a rough patch last year and still won it all, but that was a more complete team. Jefferson wasn’t even targeted a single time in the loss. The O-line didn’t allow a single hit on Matthew Stafford in the first half. For the first 15-20 minutes of the game, the Rams looked like a new team coming out of the bye. But the offensive line isn’t the Rams’ only problem.

Rams observations: Not good enough to make deadline trade this year (Turf Show Times)

It's so nice to see the Rams made great use of their bye week (insert angry eye roll emoji). Also great to see the home fans showed up Sunday too.

The toughest games remaining include a visit to Kansas City and the two divisional matchups with Seattle (who would’ve thought?) The best teams always figure out a way and unfortunately that has not been the Rams in 2022. LA also has the Cardinals, I fully expected they would be the class of the NFC with all the uncertainty surrounding the conference. However, I can see LA being able to get over the hump with the schedule they have ahead. The Rams do have opportunities against similarly struggling teams on their remaining schedule. Of course I said similar things about the Bucs and look where that got me. A defense can only do so much with a stagnant offense and McVay hasn’t figured that out yet following the bye. Before the bye week, the Rams had been outscored by 37 points in the fourth quarter. Not that I should be telling a This is no time to be reckless. All I’m saying is that one little band-aid is not going to stop this dam from bursting.

Led by Fred Warner (12 tackles and a sack) and Nick Bosa (three tackles and a sack), the 49ers held the Rams to just 61 yards in the second half. But we've got to go with his touchdown pass to Aiyuk, which put the 49ers on the board after falling behind early. The 49ers will go into their bye week with a 4-4 record. The 49ers had already built a 10-point lead, but the outcome was still in doubt when the Rams took possession with just over 12 minutes left. He did a bunch of those against them the last time where he got most of those stats. Allen Robinson II played well (he caught five passes for the second straight game), but he alone wasn't enough to offset the Rams' lack of a running game and a third receiving option. Despite sharing a field with reigning Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, McCaffrey was the difference-maker in this game. In just his second game in a 49ers uniform, Christian McCaffrey did something that had previously never been done in the franchise's 76-year history. Los Angeles regained the lead minutes later when Stafford hit Cooper Kupp for a 17-yard score. McCaffrey's effort was critical given that the 49ers played without All-Pro wideout Deebo Samuel, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. The Rams scored 14 points and continue to be one of the lowest-ranking offenses in the league; as the [Super Bowl](https://www.sbnation.com/super-bowl) winners last season, the Rams only scored under 20 points twice all year. Another has been the Rams inability to run the ball effectively and Sean McVay was down to Ronnie Rivers as his starting running back in Sunday’s 31-14 loss to the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey Makes History vs. Rams; 7 Takeaways from ... (49ers.com)

The San Francisco 49ers extend their regular season win streak versus the Los Angeles Rams to eight-straight games with their 31-14 win on Sunday.

With the 31-14 win on Sunday, San Francisco completed their regular season sweep of Los Angeles and extended the 49ers regular season win-streak over the Rams to eight-straight games. Warner sacked Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford on the second drive of the third quarter for a loss of nine yards; the sack is his first of the 2022 season. McCaffrey will go down in the history books as the first 49ers running back to record a passing touchdown and receiving touchdown in the same game. The wideout recovered a fumble by McCaffrey on the 49ers second drive of the third quarter to keep San Francisco's offense on the field. San Francisco's offense struggled to find consistency in the first and second quarters and rallied to put up 21 unanswered points in the second half. Garoppolo's 132.5 passer rating marks his fourth 100+ rating of the 2022 season and his highest rating since Week 10 of the 2021 season against the Rams.

Alexander: The trade the Rams didn't make haunted them (OCRegister)

Christian McCaffrey the 49er torched L.A. for three touchdowns – running, receiving and throwing – and 173 yards all told in a 31-14 spanking. Share this:.

And point blank, we have to do a better job running the ball. That puts the onus on an offensive line still trying to regain some semblance of order and consistency. There’s ways to get around the edge, and we saw that a little bit with some of the fly sweep stuff … It’s worth noting that when McCaffrey was here two weeks ago with a Carolina team that is now 2-6, he had 158 combined rushing/receiving yards in a 24-10 Rams win. Right now, he’s as close as they have to a dual threat.) The first two are expected, but when he threw a 34-yard strike to Brandon Aiyuk in the end zone for the 49ers’ first points in the second quarter, that turned out to be historic. when he came to the Rams last year. We got to do a better job at that. And he also picked this game against the 49ers’ traditional rival to do something that hasn’t been done in the NFL in 17 seasons, the catch/run/throw scoring triple. 21 for second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023 and a fifth-rounder in 2024, the balance of power in the NFC West seemed to tilt toward Santa Clara. had 16 in four carries, Malcolm Brown had 10 in five carries, and Cooper Kupp had just as many in two carries in addition to his normal receiving duties. That, in turn, was the story of the 49ers’ latest punking of the Rams Sunday, 31-14, before a SoFi Stadium crowd that, as usual, featured lots of people wearing red.

How the 49ers came out roaring vs. Rams to reverse a third-quarter ... (The Athletic)

Two second-half 49ers highlights on Sunday: Jimmy Garoppolo threw one incompletion while the Rams never moved the ball beyond midfield.

The team also ought to see other key pieces, like [Deebo Samuel](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/deebo-samuel-0aLiSjl18CoPgsUd/), [Elijah Mitchell](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/elijah-mitchell-U2DluzFgHJ8ncRvW/) and [Arik Armstead](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/arik-armstead-QgurcJ268IZqdfMC/), return from injuries in the coming weeks. We dropped a couple early on that we probably shouldn’t have. The 49ers now head into their bye at 4-4 and with renewed confidence they can make a playoff run. Bosa and the defense pitched a shutout in the second half, [Jimmy Garoppolo](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/jimmy-garoppolo-SxxkE6sJpi9AfCka/) threw just one incompletion after halftime and a special teams unit that had been leaking return yards never allowed the Rams to begin a drive beyond their own 29-yard line. [Jalen Ramsey](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/jalen-ramsey-jjySiEAGwRYfSRoC/) dropped a would-be interception that seemed so easy it brought back memories of 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt’s blown attempt on the same field in last season’s NFC Championship Game. The Rams, in fact, never made it beyond midfield in the second half. The defense, meanwhile, regained its balance after two wobbly weeks and the bye week will allow banged-up starters like “Our backs are against the wall and it’s, how are (we) going to show up? The ball, however, shot straight into the air and landed in the hands of teammate [Ray-Ray McCloud III](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/ray-ray-mccloud-iii-kngqu3tROk5PI4zY/), who was on his back nearby. After all, they’d been down to the Chiefs only 14-13 at halftime and lost 44-23. They’ve had trouble protecting Stafford all season — including in Week 4 when the 49ers sacked him seven times — and took a page from San Francisco’s playbook by combatting that problem with quick throws and screens. Kyle Shanahan began his news conference by declaring the 49ers had no injuries.

Los Angeles has been shut out in the second half of three home losses this season. They outplayed us in the second half. “I was kind of surprised when they gave up a little early, maybe six or seven minutes left and they ran the ball on third down,” Bosa said. Shanahan is nine games below .500 in his coaching career against every team other than the Rams. McCaffrey then made a 24-yard run followed by a 1-yard score with 12:07 to play. I think the biggest thing is coming out with a win, and playing the second half like that, too. The 49ers outmaneuvered the Rams (3-4) 10 days ago with a superior trade offer to acquire McCaffrey, who torched Los Angeles both before and after those negotiations. I remember Thursday night when we were doing the red zone (game planning), me yelling, ‘Does anyone know if Christian can throw?’” Garoppolo passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns as San Francisco scored 24 unanswered points to finish its eighth consecutive regular-season victory over its NFC West rival. “Both of my little brothers are quarterbacks, so I learned a lot from them,” McCaffrey said with a smile.
