Nets' Kyrie Irving defends posting of controversial social media post ... (amNY)

Kyrie Irving didn't back down from the latest controversy he found himself entangled in following the Nets' latest loss on Saturday night.

“My post was a post from Alex Jones that he did in the early ’90s or late ’90s about secret societies in America of occults. All I do is post things for my people and my community and for those that it’s actually going to impact. … I’m in a unique position to have a level of influence on my community and what I post does not mean I support everything that is being said or everything that’s being done or I’m campaigning for anything. The 2018 movie was based on a book of the same name first published in 2014. It was on Friday when Rolling Stone first published a report on the film and the antisemitic tropes throughout it. Last week, Irving shared on his social media platforms a film that is viewed as antisemitic and since then has received backlash, including denunciations from Nets owner Joe Tsai and the NBA.

The Brooklyn Nets started the season with a 1-5 record and Kyrie Irving made headlines for the wrong reasons. By Eurohoops team/ [email protected].

Simply put, Irving is not going to change: “So I’m not going to stand down on anything that I believe in. Did I harm anybody? Did I hurt anybody? I didn’t see the will, didn’t see the desire, or the connectivity necessary to get stops and get rebounds. … We just got to make a bigger commitment and it’s got to mean more and we got to care more.” So regardless of if it was after a loss or a meeting, we always have that.

- The Nets' roster features two former Pacers in Edmond Sumner (2017-21) and T.J. Irving led all scorers with 35 points in the loss, going 13-for-21 from the field and 5-for-11 from 3-point range. "I watched (Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving) growing up, and I felt like tonight was an opportunity for me to show out," Mathurin said after the win. The Nets, meanwhile, continue to get big numbers from Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but little production from anywhere else on the roster. The Pacers went 23-for-46 from 3-point range in the win, two more threes than they had ever made in any previous game in franchise history. McConnell as well as third-year forward Aaron Nesmith as a precaution on the second night of a back-to-back, the Blue & Gold lit up the nets in Brooklyn.

Irving was unavailable for most of the Nets’ home games last season because he refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19, as was mandated in New York City. I embrace and want to learn from all walks of life and religions,” Irving tweeted. “I do not stand with Alex Jones’ position, narrative, court case that he had with Sandy Hook, or any of the kids that felt like they had to relive trauma. The Infowars host relentlessly promoted the lie that the 2012 massacre never happened, and that the grieving families seen in news coverage were actors hired as part of a plot to take away people’s guns. My post was a post from Alex Jones that he did in the early ’90s or late ’90s about secret societies in America of occults. “Have to look deep; deep inside ourselves and what we want to do, what we want to accomplish,” Nash said postgame. “We got to be better as individuals and then we’ll bring it to the group and figure it out. Brooklyn let the Pacers make a franchise record 23 three-pointers on Saturday and they continued their trend where opposing team players have put up massive numbers against them, with rookie Bennedict Mathurin scoring a career-high 32 points. There had been an expectation going into this season that there would be a learning curve as the Nets’ new big 3 gets accustomed to one another. The Nets were booed off the court after dropping their fourth straight game and have allowed 124.5 points per game during their four-game losing streak It’s never good when a team has to hold a players-only meeting six games into the season.
