Eagles injury report: Jordan Davis carted inside vs. Steelers (NBC Sports)

Jordan Davis was carted off the field Sunday after suffering an ankle injury in the second quarter against the Steelers. By Dave Zangaro.

Davis, 22, is off to a very promising start to his NFL career and has been a difference-maker in the middle of the Eagles’ defense. He changes the game without the stats. After going down late in the second quarter, Davis was slow to get back to his feet and needed help from a couple trainers to limp off the field into the blue medical tent.

Steelers-Eagles: Gerry Dulac's quarterly analysis (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Steelers insider Gerry Dulac shares his real-time notes during each quarter of the Steelers' matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles: FOURTH QUARTER.

• Costly fourth-down penalty by the Eagles for calling out dummy signals to try to get the Steelers to jump offside resulted in a touchdown rather than a field goal. Fitzpatrick plays the ball as well as any safety in the league, but he got beat to the ball by Brown, who cut inside Fitzpatrick to make the catch. • And who knew Chase Claypool was left-handed? That was the case on what would have been a 27-yard reception over CB James Bradberry, though Pickens was called for offensive interference. Each tackle — Dan Moore and Chuks Okorafor — was called for illegal formation, meaning they weren’t on the line of scrimmage. He beat Ahkello Witherspoon again on a 29-yard touchdown down the right sideline. • There’s 10 minutes left in the half and the Steelers have committed six penalties for 35 yards already. Tomlin settles for a field goal instead of going on 4th-and-4 at the 11, presumably to make it a two-score game. • Steelers begin the second half with James Pierre replacing Ahkello Witherspoon at cornerback after Witherspoon was beaten for a pair of touchdowns by A.J. Hurts went right after Pierre on the first play, trying a deep thrown to Brown that was incomplete. Ball is down where the Eagles player swatted it out of the end zone. Their last victory in Philadelphia was 1965, long before the Steelers ever won a Super Bowl.

On the next play, Miles Sanders ran it in for a touchdown. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to an ankle injury. • The Eagles started the third quarter with the ball ... • Jordan Davis went down during a play in the final four minutes of the first half. Eagles overreactions: Jalen Hurts' Pro Bowl potential has arrived (NBC Sports)

The Eagles are still undefeated after stepping over the Steelers and running up the score en route to a seventh victory. By Adam Hermann.

Reddick is such a fantastic weapon to have, especially with Robert Quinn now in tow and Josh Sweat playing at a high level. They could rotate weapons at will and keep everyone fresh to rush the passer with fresh legs. He doesn't need to do everything with his feet like last year - he had just two rushes for 10 yards on Sunday against the Steelers - and the offense is clicking. He knows exactly where he's going with the ball and puts it right on the money, leading Brown away from the coverage and into the end zone. The best way to support a young quarterback and his development is very clearly to surround him with skill, and it's not close. He has athleticism in bushels and puts it on display every week. He has shown improvement from Week 1, and with an entire offseason in the same system under his belt it makes sense. The way he executes not just the big plays but the small and intermediate ones as well. These first two months have been a dream start to the season for Jalen Hurts & Co., who put on a show with a barrage of big-play scores in front of a spicy home crowd. We've seen it in Los Angeles, where Justin Herbert hit the ground running and looked Pro Bowl-ready from his first start because of Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, and Mike Williams. It was a fun afternoon in South Philly. Buy in and don't look back.

Eagles-Steelers final score: Jalen Hurts to A.J. Brown connection ... (Bleeding Green Nation)

The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-0 after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon! Final score: 35 to 13.

A Steelers player (wisely) picked up the ball to try to advance it, only to get tackled in the end zone. - Hurts made nice throws to Goedert and then DeVonta to move the Eagles to the Steelers’ 29-yard line. The Eagles forced the Steelers to punt and DeVonta Smith, not Britain Covey, was back for the return. Nice design there to take advantage of the Steelers being focused on stopping a carry up the middle. A pass over the middle (a previous weakness for Hurts) to DeVonta Smith brought up 3rd-and-2. but the Eagles bailed the Steelers out. The Eagles ran a screen to Dallas Goedert to set up 4th-and-2. - The Eagles got to 3rd-and-1 and moved the chains with a Miles Sanders run to the right side. Brown and the wide receiver went up and got the ball in the end zone for a touchdown despite two defenders in the area. Brown dropped a pass on a comeback (tight coverage by the Steelers defender) to bring up a 3rd-and-9. The Eagles were able to get out to so comfortable of a lead that they pulled their starters on offense with over nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Hurts was very sharp after a bit of a slow start to the game.

Steelers Steamrolled by Undefeated Eagles (Sports Illustrated)

PHILADELPHIA -- The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles flexed their muscles at home against their in-state rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After their first defense came up with another stop, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni called off the dogs, letting backup quarterback Gardner Minshew and the second offense take the reins. Sciba knocked in his second kick from 29 yards out to pull his team within two scores at 28-13 with 5:59 left in the third quarter. This reception went for 29 yards and another touchdown to put Philadelphia up 21-7 at the 6:20 mark of the second quarter. Hurts hit him in stride for a 34-yard touchdown and the Eagles led 28-10 less than two minutes into the third quarter. Brown, who went over the top of Minkah Fitzpatrick to haul in a touchdown and put Philadelphia up 7-0 early. It started poorly, with the offensive line committing penalties on three of their first five plays but penalties cost the Eagles too.

Eagles-Steelers analysis: The unstoppable A.J. Brown-Jalen Hurts ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Brown had six catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns on a career day for Hurts as the Eagles dominated with a 35-13 win against the Steelers.

The Eagles went back to the look in the second half and got Brandon Graham a pressure, but the play was negated by a defensive holding penalty. Newly acquired edge rusher Robert Quinn played a handful of snaps in his first game since the Eagles sent a fourth-round pick to the Chicago Bears for him earlier this week. Offensive coordinator Shane Steichen called a play-action pass that led to Zach Pascal being wide open downfield on the opening series of the second half. Aside from a middle-field throw that Fitzpatrick nearly jumped on in the first half, Hurts hardly put the ball in harm’s way. Brown caught the ball in stride for a 27-yard score. Any notion of rust coming off of the bye week was quickly dispelled in the Eagles’ 35-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Eagles observations: A.J. Brown has massive afternoon in win over ... (NBC Sports)

Jalen Hurts keeps making progress, A.J. Brown had a monster day, and the Eagles moved to 7-0 Sunday with a 35-13 win over the Steelers. By Reuben Frank.

It was good to see the Eagles take a double-digit into halftime and actually build on it in the second half. With the personnel they have, they should be a lot better, but it just seems like every game there are a handful of plays where they just miss a bunch of tackles and a ball carrier picks up 17 yards on a play that should have gone for four. But with Jordan Davis hobbling off the field with a potentially serious injury and facing a possible layoff, the Eagles really need Hargrave to give the Eagles the kind of disruptive play he provided last year. The Steelers don’t run the ball well – they came into play this week 27th with 88 rushing yards per game and 28th at 3.7 yards per carry – but they totaled 144 yards on 24 carries for 6.0 per pop. He truly has the ability to impact the game without getting a ton of carries. He didn’t get a high volume of carries, he only had 10 rushing yards before halftime, but as soon as the Steelers started devoting all their resources to trying to slow down Brown, Shane Steichen began dialing up Sanders, and he delivered. Jalen just feels like he can lob it up to Brown anytime in the end zone no matter what the coverage, and it’s going to be a favorable matchup and Brown is just going to go up and snag it. Hurts threw only two TD passes longer than 25 yards all last year – a 28-yarder to DeVonta Smith against the Chargers and a 36-yarder against the Broncos a week later. It was good to see Javon Hargrave show up with a huge game – two sacks and the forced fumble that Avonte Maddox recovered early in the fourth quarter. He just threw four in one game, joining Sonny Jurgensen and Norm Snead as the third QB in Eagles history with four TD passes of 25 yards or more in a game. Brown is having one of the best seasons ever by an Eagles wide receiver, and he and Hurts are just getting started. They have a rare ability to not look back and not look ahead and focus on the next rep, the next meeting, the next play, and when you do that, you generally don’t get affected by outside noise.

Instant analysis: Eagles fly right past Steelers with an all-around ... (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

It was over when: Former Steelers nose tackle Javon Hargrave strip-sacked a scrambling Pickett, whose fumble was recovered by his Pitt teammate Avonte Maddox.

His rough season continues, and regardless of whether Levi Wallace returns from his shoulder injury soon, there might have to be a change in the starting lineup. It might be time to give him more than six carries, given that Harris produced just 32 yards on eight carries and a measly 26 yards on six receptions. The Eagles traded a first-round pick for Brown during the draft, and he wasted no time making Minkah Fitzpatrick look like a rookie. To be fair, he didn’t have much help from his offensive line and was sacked six times, but he finished with 191 yards on 25-of-38 passing plus an interception and lost fumble, both in the fourth quarter. The Eagles came out hot after having last week off, and the frenzied crowd cheered them to an opening-drive touchdown that set the tone for the day. Jalen Hurts capitalized on every defensive mistake by the Steelers, the Eagles defense smothered Kenny Pickett and company early and often, and it’s now a 10-game losing streak in Philadelphia to keep Pittsburgh’s NFL franchise winless since 1965 on this side of the state.

Why Eagles' Jalen Hurts is hoping work done during bye week will ... (nj.com)

PHILADELPHIA – The bye week was a time for players to relax and reflect on the games that had previously been played before getting some time off.

“I liked his profile as the son of a football coach and his steady demeanor. “We always harp on controlling the things that we can and the importance of that,” Hurts said. The amount of work that Hurts was putting into his game was something that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also saw from afar. Hurts said he had time to speak with the coaches during the break about what they saw from the first six games, things they have done well, and the aspects of his game and the offense that could be improved. He just displayed the intangible characteristics of a winner, and that’s been his best resume wherever he’s been. It’s an opportunity for us to learn, and I feel like we did that this week.” Through the first six weeks of the season, Hurts has looked like one of the top quarterbacks in the league. “I had the opportunity to evaluate where we are and where I am personally in the offense. “It’s a different evaluation when you are evaluating guys on the college playing field. Coach Mike Tomlin and defensive tackle Cameron Heyward talked about the loss to the Eagles.

When guys, everybody in our group, when we're not asking the right questions, and we're not taking the accountability and we're not taking on to the practice field and then to the game, there's a dysfunction." We got two weeks to think about this and we got to grow." "But the stuff we can't put up with is the mental mistakes and that needs to get fixed. It's better to look yourself in the mirror and say I gotta get better. But the mental stuff needs to get addressed and that will get addressed. "I just thought the penalty component of it and our inability to keep a lid on it was Steelers vs. Everyone else in the media and fans can say what they want but at the end of the day it's down to us. If you don't keep a lid on it in the NFL, you don't give yourself a chance to play. We got to finish them legally on offense in bounds or otherwise." "Not getting in the right spot, having some procedural penalties, personnel in and out of huddle, all things we can control. We got to keep a lid on it. "From my perspective it's less about what they do and about the things that we're not doing," said Tomlin.

Jordan Davis' ankle injury was the lone negative in the Eagles ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

The Eagles will have options to assess while their top draft pick Davis could miss a month recovering from an injury suffered in a win against the Steelers.

“But I’m hoping that ain’t the case for him because that boy — he’s been working his butt off. Upon his return to Pittsburgh in 2020, the Eagles lost. “So to see him go down, it hurt a little bit. Quinn is the mild-mannered type and should fit into a locker-room culture that has seemingly accepted all personalities. The bigger Marvin Wilson is on the practice squad and could get a promotion. But despite his postgame appearance and needing a cart to exit the field late in the first half, Davis’ injury isn’t believed to be season-threatening. Quinn joined the Eagles on Thursday after Wednesday’s trade. While Davis averaged only 35% of snaps on defense through the first six games, he was a hulking presence in the base five-man front. The 7-0 Eagles, though, are seemingly as equipped as any team to sustain the loss. He handled nose tackle duties the most last season with 196 snaps over the center. Edwards deflected a pass into the waiting arms of safety C.J. Jordan Davis wore a walking boot on his right leg, but needed crutches as he inched his way across the home locker room at Lincoln Financial Field.

They knew they needed to improve in this area, and the work in August created afternoons like Sunday. [Haason Reddick](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/haason-reddick-nMs1a7rVTKxtFiSB/) said when asked what it would be like preparing for the Eagles offense. I knew this was going to be the year for him in training camp, but the way he’s playing right now, he’s playing out of his mind. The Steelers blitzed Hurts on 59.4 percent of dropbacks, according to TruMedia, which was the most by a defense this year. Brown had a critical 43-yard reception in the fourth quarter to set up the Eagles’ final touchdown. Brown](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/aj-brown-EJI9GRcayoZKGPpF/) set new career highs for receiving yards (156) and touchdowns (3). [Lane Johnson](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/lane-johnson-0c4JytpwYgeSDkcO/)’s explanation for the secret to the second-half success was “throw that motherf—er to No. Quibbles about this team were hard to come by through the season’s first two months, although the disparity between the first and second halves was a popular topic during the bye week. [Jalen Hurts](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/jalen-hurts-yhzPJprUoEnfzPvf/) set a career high with four passing touchdowns and finished with the best passer rating of his career. You have to be able to kill them with your legs at times, make the throws when you need to in the passing game and kill them with your mind and with what you see and how you react. The Eagles built an early lead and finally added to it in the second half, with the offense scoring its most points of the season. Yet the Eagles’ offense scored five touchdowns for the first time this season and finished with its best third-down performance (7-of-12, 58 percent) in seven games.

Labriola on the loss to the Eagles (Steelers.com)

For the second time in the last four weeks, 'embarrassing' is an apt description of the performance.

It's better to look yourself in the mirror and say, 'I've got to get better.' So, I'm going to use this time to truly do that." As Cowher said, the Steelers are 2-6 and in a period of transition. But there should be some accounting of where they are and what they need to do to turn what remains of this season into a positive. It's good to stay on the field and control the football and chew some clock. Harris is a hard worker who wants to be great, and it defies logic that he wouldn't respond to a constant reinforcing of that message. You got to keep a lid on it." If you don't keep a lid on it in the NFL, you don't give yourself a chance to play. The offense was back to doing, and not doing, the things that has made it one of the worst performing units from a statistical standpoint in the league so far in 2022. On third-and-1 from their 41-yard line on the Eagles' third play of their opening possession, Miles Sanders ran for 5 yards before encountering any Steelers defenders on the way to a 7-yard gain and a drive-extending first down. We got to keep a lid on it. Brown did his thing to the tune of 39, 29, and 27-yard touchdown catches, plus a 43-yard reception that set up an 11-yard touchdown run by Sanders that completed the scoring. With that out of the way, the Steelers' performance in their 35-13 loss to the Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field was embarrassing, the second time in the last four games where that description is appropriate.
