Iowa State hosts Oklahoma in a battle of Big 12 teams. Check out the recap, highlights and analysis from the Cyclones game.
Iowa State takes over on the 13-yard line. Iowa State has a lot of work to do in the second half. Sure, the Cyclones are coming into Saturday’s game without a win in over a month. It sure is nice to have Cartevious Norton back on the field but it wasn't enough for the Cyclones on this drive. Jace Gilbert added three more points to Iowa State's total but the Cyclones still trail 13-6 in the final minute of play. The Sooners lined up for what appeared to be a kick on fourth down, with Oklahoma on the 1-yard line. For those keeping track, Iowa State hasn't scored since the final minute of the second quarter and have yet to pick up a touchdown. But Jaylin Noel did call for a fair catch on the most recent punt, apparently said something worthy of an unsportsmanlike conduct call and that pushed the Cyclones half the distance closer to the goal. The Cyclones drove the ball to the 44-yard line and then Dekkers' pass — intended for Noel — ended up in the hands of Oklahoma safety Justin Broiles. Not a lot to report in the third quarter so far. Iowa State’s strongest drives of the game came in the final quarter. Iowa State is the only Big 12 team without a conference win.

Xavier Hutchinson added 10 catches for 72 yards. The win improved Oklahoma to 5-3 on the season (2-3 in Big 12) while Iowa State fell to 3-5 and remained winless in conference play at 0-5.. The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Iowa State Cyclones, 27-13, Saturday.

[https://t.co/o9zFEAIL5k] It’s ugly in Ames right now [October 29, 2022] They’ll have another stiff test next week against Baylor, but in the meantime, here’s how social media reacted to the Sooners’ win over Iowa State. It was complimentary football at its finest, especially as the special teams unit accounted for the first 13 points of the game. They took a few shots and finally broke through with a big play to Jalil Farooq on a busted Iowa State coverage. They intercepted Hunter Dekkers three times and got a stop on fourth and one at the goalline to close out the game.
“It is not an easy thing,” first-year Oklahoma Coach Brent Venables said after his defense forced three turnovers and held Iowa State to just 66 rushing yards ...
“,Coach (Jay) Nunez, the special teams guy (drew that up),” said Schmit, who also converted field goals of 41 and 34 yards as Oklahoma built a 13-6 halftime lead. ‘Pack it in on that hash (mark).’ That is right where the ball was. “It was just kind of going back to that technique,” said Stutsman, whose interception is the first in his collegiate career. In past years, a team like that has threatened to take advantage of the Sooners’ declining confidence and post one of its better offensive outings of the season. While the Sooners did allow 308 passing yards to Iowa State sophomore quarterback Hunter Dekkers, it took Dekkers a whopping 57 pass attempts to get there. It comes from doing it successfully on the practice field before you get to the game field.
They weren't perfect, but the OU defense showed signs of things to come against Iowa State.
Instead, Stutsman takes the ball to the one, and Eric Gray punches it in to put the game out of reach for Iowa State with just a few minutes left on the clock. They aren’t going to hold anyone under ten points in a game. I expect it to be competent. I don’t expect this defense to be world-beating. This was such a nice play and an important one on a drive where Iowa State was looking to tie the game. With the offense, as always, taking such good care of the football, the defense forcing turnovers is going to be very valuable against the stiffer opponents remaining on Oklahoma’s schedule. Against Iowa State, Brent Venables was Brent Venables. Yes, it was against the worst offense in the Big 12. Yes, it was against a young quarterback. This defense allowed over 500 yards in three of their last four games and over 400 just two weeks ago. The Sooners held their opponent under 20 points for the first time since week three against Nebraska. The progress the Oklahoma Sooners’ defense showed against Iowa State was phenomenal to see.
