The Packers were 5.5-point favorites. The series dates to 1932, when the Packers improved to 8-0-1 by beating the Boston Braves at Braves Field 21-0. The Packers have to get back to both. The Packers went 13-3 in 2019, 13-3 in 2020 and 13-4 in 2021. [Will he be ****-canned now](https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/bisaccia-were-not-going-to-can-amari-rodgers)? The last time the teams met in Washington was 2018, with the Packers falling 31-17. Pat O’Donnell’s punt pinned the Commanders at the 3. Teams have to win their first two challenges to get a third; the Packers are out of challenges. The Packers are losing. The Packers have been outgained 209-76. The Commanders will have 1:23 to score.

The Good, Bad And Ugly From The Green Bay Packers' Loss To The ... (Forbes)

One week ago, after the Green Bay Packers suffered a humbling home loss the New York Jets, quarterback Aaron Rodgers tried calming folks down.

And Washington didn’t feel the need to blitz, instead choosing to rush with four and let the Packers “dink and dunk down the field” as LaFleur put it. Campbell then had nothing but green grass in front of him, and beat all of the Commanders to the pylon to give Green Bay a 14-3 lead. … Green Bay cornerback Jaire Alexander was beat by Washington’s Terry McLaurin for a 37-yard touchdown in the third quarter. … Green Bay ranked eighth in the league through Week 6 with just 31 penalties. “But it’s nice, it’s comforting, I think, for Aaron (Rodgers), for the rest of the guys in the huddle. Rodgers had just 82 passing yards through three quarters before beefing up his numbers late and finishing with 194 passing yards. McKissic for a ball in the right flat. That meant center Josh Myers was the only offensive lineman starting at the same spot he did last week. When the Packers faced San Francisco in the NFC divisional playoffs two weeks later, Bakhtiari still wasn’t ready to go. But Campbell was remarkably loud early in the second quarter when he intercepted Washington’s Taylor Heinicke and returned the pick 63 yards for a touchdown. Jones had a 4-yard TD catch midway through the first quarter to give Green Bay a 7-0 lead. But Lazard did what he could to give Green Bay a lift.

Packers Lose to Commanders, Season in Deep Trouble (Sports Illustrated)

The Green Bay Packers started fast, faded and lost their third consecutive game. The 23-21 verdict has the Packers in deep, deep trouble with a 3-4 record.

The Packers will be on the road. On the fourth possession, Aaron Jones was stuffed for minus-6 and Nijman was flagged for holding, making it second-and-forever and leading to another punt. The Packers will play at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. On the third possession, Yosh Nijman was flagged for holding, resulting in first-and-20 and a punt. One of those catches was a 37-yard touchdown and another was a big second-and-7 conversion in the final moments. It was a simple play: Aaron Rodgers firing a pass into the flat to Romeo Doubs. Doubs dropped the pass and the Commanders drove for an insurance score. They drove to the opening touchdown, a 4-yard screen to Jones, and made it 14-3 on De’Vondre Campbell’s 63-yard pick-six. McLaurin came back for the ball and made the catch in front of Jaire Alexander for the first down just before the 2-minute warning. With Kenny Clark barreling straight at him, Heinicke threw a perfect pass to Terry McLaurin on the sideline. The Aaron Rodgers-led Packers offense didn’t cross 100 yards until the final play of the third quarter. The Packers need help, especially at receiver.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers lose to Commanders, drop 3rd in a row (The Washington Post)

Aaron Rodgers and the offense sputtered as the Green Bay Packers' losing streak reached three with a 23-21 defeat at the Washington Commanders.

Commanders: Rookie TE Cole Turner was concussed attempting to make a catch late in the second quarter and quickly ruled out. Oddly, during her speech to the crowd, she made reference to “seven decades of fantastic football.” Only a series of penalties on the Commanders (3-4) made the game close in the final minutes. Heinicke also found McLaurin for a 12-yard completion on third-and-9 just before the two-minute warning, sparking “Terry! “We just got to play better — all of us,” said Rodgers, who taped his throwing hand at halftime after jamming the thumb on a couple of snaps. You just want to be able to make that play to elevate him.” One of those TD throws was a perfect pass to Terry McLaurin. The margin of error is so tight, a couple calls don’t necessarily go our way and we don’t execute at all on offense in certain situations. The Packers had no third-down conversions for the first time since 1999 — 370 games ago with Brett Favre at quarterback and before Rodgers graduated high school. Green Bay (3-4) had just 232 total yards of offense to Washington’s 364 and lost Allen Lazard to a shoulder injury, making him the team’s third wide receiver to go down during the first losing streak under coach Matt LaFleur. The Packers rushed for just 38 yards. Rodgers is right: The problems were not limited to offense.

Commanders Fans Troll Owners With 'Sell the Team' Signs, Chant (Sports Illustrated)

Embattled owners Dan and Tanya Snyder have drawn the ire of many Washington fans.

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform is investigating Snyder, who testified in front of the committee in July ’22. Snyder also is facing investigations from the league and a congressional committee looking into workplace misconduct in the franchise. Per the ESPN report, Snyder has used private investigators to look into several NFL team owners and Goodell, the same tactics Snyder is said to have used within his own franchise. Not only that, but a number of fans brought “sell the team” signs to the game as well. In a video posted on Twitter, it appears that FedExField security singled out fans with the signs, but it’s unclear if they were told they couldn’t put the signs up.

Commanders Ownership Makes Another Insane Public Blunder (NESN.com)

Those connected to the Washington Commanders' ownership group can't seem to get out of their own way this season.

In what world does it make sense to make a complete and total brand change to only go back and focus all of your attention on the past? Everyone seems to have an opinion on the Commanders’ recent name change, but the Snyder’s decision to honor former team legends and make a point to mention the former name is an odd one no matter how you slice it. Immediately having a pregame rally to support the former team name, in the season that you finally made a switch, is basically admitting to have never wanted to change the name in the first place — something in which

Packers-Commanders recap, final score: 23-21 loss to WAS drops ... (Acme Packing Company)

Plenty of self-inflicted wounds hurt the Packers once again on Sunday as they dropped below .500 and find themselves in a three-game losing streak.

The final play of the third quarter was the start of Green Bay’s next drive, and Rodgers got off to a good start with a 17-yard gain on a slant. Rodgers found Sammy Watkins for a 30-yard gain to near midfield, but there were just five seconds remaining when the Packers managed to spike the ball to stop the clock. Finally, for the first time all game, the Packers drove the length of the field for a score. The two connected for a 21-yard touchdown, pulling the Packers back within two points at 23-21. Of course, Amari Rodgers found a new way to make a mistake, allowing the ball to bounce outside the 10-yard line and get downed at the 1, so the Packers ran out the clock on the half instead. Washington’s next drive saw them pick up five first downs and eat up almost nine minutes of clock before a stop in the red zone forced a field goal and kept the game within a touchdown. Coming out of the half, the Commanders worked in some run game wrinkles, getting across midfield on a quick end-around to Curtis Samuel. The Packers got an early lead, with Aaron Rodgers going back to Lazard twice for gains of 11 and 12 yards on the series. Instead, the Packers stuck with that plan and started Zach Tom at left tackle instead, going with a lineup of Tom-Jenkins-Josh Myers-Jon Runyan-Yosh Nijman from left to right. He muffed the catch on the kick, and Washington recovered at the Packers’ 17. On 2nd and goal from the six-yard line, Rodgers hit Jones on a short pass in traffic and the running back weaved through the Commanders’ defense to the end zone and a 7-0 Packers lead. All of those factors combined to drop the Packers to 3-4 on the season with their 23-21 loss to Washington.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers finished the game face down on the turf after sailing a lateral out of bounds on a frantic, failed final play.

Commanders 23, Packers 21: How it happened, big plays, highlights (Packers Wire)

The Green Bay Packers (3-3) will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak on Sunday at FedEx Field against the Washington Commanders (2-4).

The Packers will need a stop and a field goal to escape to Washington with a win. The Packers have 15:08 left to get this turned around or this will end in a three-game losing streak. The pivotal play was Matt LaFleur’s challenge on a 24-yard run that the Packers believed involved a fumble. After getting one first down (on an 8-yard run by Curtis Samuel), Washington stalled on three consecutive plays from inside the 10-yard line and settled for a field goal. The Packers need a new punt returner. Allen Lazard moved the sticks with catches of 11 yards and 12 yards, and Aaron Jones delivered a spinning 7-yard run and a hard-fought 4-yard touchdown catch on a well-designed screen play.

Even a win won't drown out Commanders fans' refrain: Sell the team (The Washington Post)

At the end of a week like this, the scene inside FedEx Field revealed everything NFL owners should know about the state of football in this market.

Sunday, the Commanders improved to a record of 3-4, the same as the Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals. Until there’s a resolution to the Commanders’ ownership, heckling during heartfelt PSAs will be the norm. Nor has it silenced the voices of the people who should matter the most. Following the game, when happy Washington fans merged toward Gate A alongside Packers fans, there were the normal yelps of delight. An owner proves to be bad for business when the fate of their franchise remains the story. And these desired fans just so happened to be sitting above the Commanders’ own sideline, and just below a press box full of media and team personnel. The Snyders are the owners who inspire Washington fans in throwback burgundy and the cheeseheads invading their space to unite and find harmony in common ground: their hatred for the league’s most radioactive owner. “We have to complete the investigation. On the business side, the Commanders may not give a care about how they’re viewed outside the DMV. Maybe not, but there’s a difference between the anonymous all-caps shouts by Twitter trolls that can be easily ignored and the full-throated demands of the very demographic Washington has been trying to target through its rebranding. At first, the noise seemed to be out of place; a “Think Pink” video was playing on the scoreboard, and who in their right minds would boo breast cancer survivors? He is the overcast cloud that hangs over what should have been a pleasant Sunday.

Game recap: 5 takeaways from Packers' loss to Commanders (Packers.com)

LANDOVER, Md. – The Packers suffered through a day-long struggle again and dropped their third straight game, this one 23-21 to the Washington Commanders at ...

In all, the rather ugly game had a combined 16 penalties and numerous others declined. "I think it takes everybody," LaFleur said of how to get out of the rut and turn things around. [Aaron Rodgers](/team/players-roster/aaron-rodgers/) finished with 194 passing yards, a low number that didn't appear it would get even that high until late in the game. The Packers also reshuffled their offensive line and then had to replace left tackle "We had some opportunities for sure," said Rodgers, who also referenced a long replay review on a potential Washington fumble that didn't go Green Bay's way. The number of long-yardage situations piled up, the Packers couldn't convert (their only third-down conversions were via penalty in the last quarter), and the frustration mounted. The Commanders outgained the Packers 364-232, went 7-of-16 on third down compared to 0-for-6, ran 72 plays to just 47 for Green Bay, and had a nearly 15-minute time of possession advantage (37:07-22:53). "Right now, what we're putting out there, what I'm calling, it ain't good enough. "We just made some silly execution mistakes. "I don't see anybody quitting out there, even when it looks bleak," LaFleur said. [Amari Rodgers](/team/players-roster/amari-rodgers/)' muffed punt and held the Commanders to just a field goal, but as in recent weeks the defense faded as the game went on. "Our guys are extremely disappointed," LaFleur said in his postgame press conference.

5 takeaways from Washington's win over the Packers (Washington Commanders)

The Washington Commanders returned to FedExField or Week 7 and claimed their second straight victory with a 23-21 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Another throw -- a 26-yard completion to Curtis Samuel -- kept the offense on the field for a 19-yard field goal six plays later. Heinicke completed seven consecutive passes, including the 37-yarder to McLaurin, and did not have a dropped pass until the end of the third quarter. But if the quarterback can build on the second half he had against Green Bay, it could lead to Washington continuing its winning streak. Washington went on a 12-play scoring drive with Gibson and Robinson accounting for 54 of the 83 yards needed to get in the end zone. He started to look more like the gun-slinging, risk-taking, electrifying quarterback that Washington fans have grown to love, and by the end of the game, his stat line showed how much he improved with each possession. Those are the kind of moments [where] Terry is immense, and we've got to be willing to take those shots." Washington could only get three points out of the turnover, but it was a much-needed break that swung momentum in the home team's favor. Tress Way launched the ball back to Amari Rodgers, but right before he could take a stab at a return, the ball popped loose from his grasp and was recovered by Percy Butler. The second play did not result in any points, but it was just as important. That gave the offense some breathing room and allowed it to climb out of a 14-3 hole. Still, they do have Aaron Rodgers, and the future Hall of Famer normally finds a way to get the unit back on track. The Washington Commanders returned to FedExField or Week 7 and claimed their second straight victory with a 23-21 win over the Green Bay Packers.

With Taylor Heinicke in charge, Commanders find a way to rally past ... (The Washington Post)

Pushing past chants of "Sell the team!" the Commanders erase a halftime deficit and notch their second straight win with a 23-21 victory at FedEx Field.

After a late punt pinned Green Bay deep without any timeouts, the Commanders staved off a last-gasp hook and lateral from the Packers, who tried to zigzag their way into the end zone as time expired. When the Commanders failed to punch the ball into the end zone after making it to the Green Bay 2-yard line early in the fourth, Slye knocked in a 19-yard field goal to expand their lead to two scores at 23-14. When they did fall into third and long three players later, McLaurin came up big again, catching a 12-yard lob from Heinicke in tight coverage that moved the Commanders to the Green Bay 44-yard line. Washington’s defense fed off the energy and quickly forced the Packers (3-4) off the field so the Commanders could notch another scoring drive, a clock-eating march that ended with Slye’s 31-yard field goal to make it 20-14. On Sunday, its stop on a Green Bay fourth down staved off the Packers before another late in regulation sealed the win. As Washington’s offense has waffled between bad and abominable for much of the season, its defense has steadily improved. During a pregame ceremony featuring more than 100 alumni and former cheerleaders at the stadium’s Legends Plaza, Tanya Snyder yelled, “Hail to the Redskins!” eliciting cheers from some former players. But the drive stalled — and Joey Slye hit the right upright on a 47-yard field goal attempt. Not long after the Commanders returned for the second half, the replacement quarterback launched a 37-yard pass that fell into the arms of wide receiver Terry McLaurin for the go-ahead touchdown. A few plays later, after the Commanders recovered a muffed punt in the Packers’ red zone, Heinicke tossed a fade to tight end Cole Turner from the 3-yard line that was too high and had too much velocity. Washington had to settle for a field goal, trimming its early deficit to 7-3. All three phases — offense, defense and special teams — found a groove Sunday, turning much of the pent-up frustration from the past few weeks into renewed hope.

Aaron Rodgers finished the game face down on the turf after sailing a lateral out of bounds on a frantic, failed final play.

Commanders: Rookie TE Cole Turner was concussed attempting to make a catch late in the second quarter and quickly ruled out. Only a series of penalties on the Commanders (3-4) made the game close in the final minutes. Packers: LB Rashad Gary was evaluated for a concussion in the second half. Embattled team owner Daniel Snyder was not present, but his wife, Tanya, spoke at a pregame rally that included a video of highlights from the 90 years since the franchise’s founding in 1932. You just want to be able to make that play to elevate him." "We just got to play better — all of us," said Rodgers, who taped his throwing hand at halftime after jamming the thumb on a couple of snaps. The margin of error is so tight, a couple calls don’t necessarily go our way and we don’t execute at all on offense in certain situations. One of those TD throws was a perfect pass to Terry McLaurin. The Packers had no third-down conversions for the first time since 1999 — 370 games ago with Brett Favre at quarterback and before Rodgers graduated high school. The Packers rushed for just 38 yards. Green Bay (3-4) had just 232 total yards of offense to Washington's 364 and lost Allen Lazard to a shoulder injury, making him the team’s third wide receiver to go down during the first losing streak under coach Matt LaFleur. Rodgers is right: The problems were not limited to offense.

Commanders Vs. Packers - Studs and Duds (Hogs Haven)

This was one of the latter...but all that really matters is we GOT the win! Sure, the Packers are not a good football team, and lack offensive playmakers, but I ...

- Jamin Davis has been flashing more and more as the season has progressed. Butler was known in college to be a great special teamer, and he’s living up to that reputation so far as a pro. He had five tackles (two for a loss) on the afternoon. Had we continued calling the game the way we did in the first half, Ron and company may have been run out of DC! - Much like the coaching staff, this offensive line has been so poor that calling ANYONE a stud would be just foolish. However, I LOVED the way he and Scott Turner regrouped at halftime and turned things around (both play-calling and decision making) in the second half. No one on the group has earned stud status, but Scott Turner did put Heinicke into much more comfortable plays over the course of the game - and for that alone, he deserves a mention. I’d be pressing if I tried to just throw one in there for the sake of having one! Then, came back to a ball that Heinicke threw just as he was getting hit to snare the pass in front of Alexander on the sidelines. None of the three reached the endzone on the ground, however they helped to move the chains and control the tempo of the football game. Add in some huge catches by Terry McLaurin, and a nice 37 yard dime from Heinicke, to add to the clutch performances. Commanders Fans - For starting the “Sell the Team” chant during the game!

Washington Commanders radio network has hot mic blunder (Awful Announcing)

The Commanders had a great day defeating Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 23-21, but their radio broadcast didn't go off without a hitch.

[Bram Weinstein](https://awfulannouncing.com/tag/bram-weinstein) threw the broadcast to a commercial break, but the feed remained live for an additional 40 seconds. [Hot mic](https://awfulannouncing.com/tag/hot-mic) blunders are never a good look, but I thought the [Commanders](https://awfulannouncing.com/tag/washington-commanders) radio crew handled this one pretty well. However, after hearing the clip, it didn’t seem like the producer was responding to Donaldson as if acknowledging the well-traveled Packers fanbase was some sort of damning statement that needed to be censored.

Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke Elevates Washington's Offense in ... (Sports Illustrated)

Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw two touchdowns in a 23-21 win against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Heinicke has a chance to re-establish himself as the starter with Wentz on the injured reserve due to a fractured ring finger on his throwing hand. Regardless of how much a player is paid, Heinicke has to remain the starter even when Wentz returns. Washington now sits 3-4 as it looks to turn the season around. Heinicke and McLaurin connected for a 37-yard touchdown that gave Washington a 17-14 lead in the third quarter. McLaurin had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Heinicke completed 20 of his 33 passes for 201 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Packers Grades After 23-21 Loss to Commanders (Sports Illustrated)

The Green Bay Packers lost to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. It was an across-the-board bad performance, as shown in our weekly report card.

They were blown out of London by the Giants in the second half, soundly beaten by the Jets and were outgained 364-232 by the Commanders. Still, last season, the Giants were 4-13, the Jets were 4-13 and the Commanders were 7-10. Bad teams aren’t permanently bad and good teams – even with legendary quarterbacks – don’t have a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. Who cares if the punters almost battled to a draw and the Packers earned a slight edge on field position after kickoffs? That includes third-and-2 and third-and-11 on the 16-play drive that made it 20-14, third-and-8 on the nine-play drive that made it 23-14, and the aforementioned third-and-9 to essentially wrap up the game. And one-fourth of his passing yards – 49 – came on his final two completions, a 28-yard catch-and-run by Sammy Watkins and 21 yards to Robert Tonyan on the lateral play to end the game. It’s a tale as old as time: The Packers can’t stop the run. The pass rush was excellent. Instead, the Packers led at halftime and didn’t fall behind by more than two scores until 6:40 was left in the game. Meanwhile, he was 2-of-6 on passes thrown 10-plus yards downfield, with the exquisite 21-yard touchdown to Aaron Jones and the 28-yarder to Watkins coming in the waning moments. The run defense was terrible. “You’ve got to have the protection in front of you to be able to hold up.
