Lincoln Riley's younger brother has a better chance of making the ... (Trojans Wire)

It's not likely, but TCU does have a shot at the College Football Playoff, and its odds are better than USC's right now.

But go ahead and add Garrett Riley to that list. I don’t know who all these CFB teams are planning to hire. [October 23, 2022] Garrett Riley has Texas roots and connections. Colorado needs a coach who can recruit Texas and the South Central Plains. Riley is collecting experiences and expertise as an offensive play-caller and quarterback teacher, much as his brother did before becoming a head coach. The Frogs are in great shape to play for a conference championship and, at the very least, a New Year’s Six bowl bid. If CU wants a souped-up passing game and better QB play, Garrett Riley would not be a bad choice. TCU leads the Big 12 standings, and it now has head-to-head tiebreakers over Kansas State and Oklahoma State. In his first season as a Big 12 offensive coordinator, Lincoln Riley made the College Football Playoff. Keep in mind that Oklahoma State and Kansas State have not yet played each other, so TCU might have to lose three times to fall all the way out of the conference title game. They go to Waco to face Baylor.

College Football Playoff: Should TCU be in over Michigan, Clemson? (FanSided)

With TCU being one of the last undefeated teams, should the Horned Frogs get into the College Football Playoff over the likes of Michigan or Clemson?

Simply, the only way Michigan is getting in over TCU with one loss is if that one loss is at home to Illinois. Should TCU lose a regular-season game and Clemson drops one as well, it would be a great debate as to who gets in in that scenario, especially if the SEC is capable of getting two teams in. This means it would probably not be a fair fight in the No. Ultimately, TCU is not going to get the benefit of the doubt all things equal when it comes to more prestigious programs like Michigan, Clemson or whomever. The same sort of principles can be applied to Michigan and definitely to Clemson should both teams win out. The good news for the Horned Frogs is the last unblemished team in the Pac-12 succumbed to defeat with Oregon beating UCLA in Autzen.

TCU stays undefeated, Cowboys rebound vs. Texas: Big 12 power ... (Sooners Wire)

TCU stayed undefeated and Oklahoma State got the bounce-back win over Texas. 8 action provided more clarity in the Big 12 title race.

If Iowa State can find some points in Ames, they’ll have a chance to knock off the Sooners. At some point, West Virginia will have to make a decision on head coach Neal Brown. After beating Baylor nine days ago, the Mountaineers fell flat in Lubbock against a Texas Tech defense allowing 29.8 points per game this season. Kansas was down 28-3 at halftime before making it a five-point game in the second half. West Virginia weas coming off of a 43-point outburst in their win against Baylor nine days ago. The matchups don’t get any easier with Oklahoma State coming to town in what amounts to an elimination game in the Big 12 title race. The Cowboys now look back in the driver’s seat for a spot in the Big 12 title game. Baylor was impressive against Kansas, jumping out to a 28-3 halftime lead before holding on for the 12-point win, and Texas Tech thumped West Virginia 48-10. Texas fell to 5-3 on the season and is now 10-10 under Steve Sarkisian. Oklahoma State came back from an early 21-7 first half deficit to win late against Texas. TCU looks like the class of the conference after beating Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State in consecutive weeks. The Wildcats seemed to score at will without starting quarterback Adrian Martinez.

Focused Frogs: TCU now 7th after 4th win in row over Top 25 (Associated Press)

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — TCU coach Sonny Dykes is not hearing what could be expected from his players as they keep winning games , and that is a good thing.

The Horned Frogs shared the Big 12 title in 2014, and made it to the conference championship game in 2017. Sign up for the AP’s college football newsletter: https://tinyurl.com/mrxhe6f2 Miller ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns against K-State for his fourth 100-yard game in the past five. None of the Frogs’ five remaining opponents are currently ranked, though Texas just fell out of the poll and reigning Big 12 champion Baylor was ranked earlier this season. The Frogs became only the second Big 12 team ever with wins over Top 25 opponents in four consecutive weeks, doubling their best previous streak. “It feels pretty good, but you know, I’m a hard dude to satisfy,” bruising running back Kendre Miller said.

Mandel's Final Thoughts: Big 12 'leftovers,' enjoy being better at ... (The Athletic)

Texas and Oklahoma are fleeing for the brutal SEC, and the teams it left behind in the Big 12 got better.

[Owls](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/temple-owls-college-football/) (4-3, 2-1 CUSA) are getting closer. [BYU](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/byu-cougars-college-football/) 41-14. This has not been a vintage year for the Mountain West, but things might get more interesting if [Fresno State](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/fresno-state-bulldogs-college-football/) (3-4, 2-1) gets back star QB [Jake Haener](https://theathletic.com/college-football/player/jake-haener-daxf0AGb2qyEvPNS/) soon. [Kansas](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/kansas-jayhawks-college-football/) (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) is down to four more chances to break that 14-year bowl drought after falling 35-23 to Baylor (4-3, 2-2). [Aggies](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/texas-a-m-aggies-college-football/) are now 3-4 and boast the lowest-scoring offense in the SEC. The Boilers’ loss means idle [Illinois](https://theathletic.com/college-football/team/illinois-fighting-illini-college-football/) (6-1, 3-1) is now alone in first in the Big Ten West, which is a pretty depressing place the farther you go down the standings.
