Raiders' Derek Carr returns after crushing hit vs. Texans (ClutchPoints)

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was briefly replaced by Jarrett Stidham following a big hit against the Texans in the first quarter.

Fortunately, it looks as if he’ll be able to stick it out and battle through the pain. It was a big scare for the Raiders to open the game, but fortunately, it looks as if Carr will be able to tough out any injury and battle through in Week 7. Live coverage: Josh Jacobs pulling Raiders away from Texans (Las Vegas Sun)

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Mack Hollins (10) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game at Allegiant Stadium Sunday ...

But Jordan is back practicing after the bye week and expected to return for what he told the Texans’ team website would be a “special” and “awesome” opportunity to play in his hometown. The Raiders could have done a lot of small things differently to flip a 30-29 loss to Kansas City in their last game, but at the top of list is their coverage of Travis Kelce. The losing streak is a strange trend, as teams traditionally see an uptick in performance after the week off, but the Raiders have regularly gotten blown out in the situation. McDaniels had been known for preferring a running-back-by-committee approach, but Jacobs has been too efficient not to earn the lion’s share of carries this season. Many expected the visiting Texans to be in this position, but the Raiders have underachieved to this point in their first season under coach Josh McDaniels. That’s partly a product of how tough the Texans’ AFC South, expected to be the worst division, has played the West. Quarterback Derek Carr led a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive to put the Raiders up 17-13 on the Texans. Waller is unlikely to play due to a hamstring injury, but the point remains: The talent discrepancy is wide. Bishop Gorman graduate Brevin Jordan had a shot at a touchdown catch for the Texans but came down out of bounds. Las Vegas’ defense underperformed for most of the day, but started to play better in the fourth quarter. And then Las Vegas got another with Houston driving late desperately trying to get back in the game. That gave the Raiders touchdowns on four straight possessions, as Jacobs also had a 4-yard dive in the third quarter while receiver Mack Hollins caught a 26-yard pass from Derek Carr in the third quarter.

Las Vegas Raiders did enough to beat the Houston Texans — and proved they still have a heart beat.

The Raiders have a lot of issues, but the inconsistency on the offensive line has been one of their biggest and longest issues. It was the 11th different alignment the Raiders have used on the offensive line in six games. In a surprise, the Raiders used safety Duron Harmon more than Tre’von Moehrig on Sunday and it appeared like he was primary player at the position. Houston’s run defense came into the game awful and it had no answer for Jacobs as the Raiders finally settled down and had a good balanced offense in the second half after going into halftime tied at 10-10. The game against Houston, 1-4-1, started a winnable stretch for the Raiders. Josh Jacobs is playing out of his mind and he was the difference in this game as he had three touchdowns, all in the second half.

Raiders winners and losers in 38-20 victory vs. Texans (Raiders Wire)

Running back Josh Jacobs scored three touchdowns for Las Vegas, leading the way for an offense that hit paydirt on all of its meaningful second-half drives.

And speaking of Jacobs, he’s helped the Raiders form an identity on offense. After Las Vegas took the ball, Jacobs scored his third. The sack was the Raiders’ only QB takedown of the game, though they did have an impressive nine QB hits. Though that was also due to a dominant first half from Texans RB Dameon Pierce that kept the Raiders’ rush off balance. He tallied 302 yards passing and two touchdowns, including a pinpoint pass to Phillip Dorsett in the third quarter, just as it appeared the Raiders had taken control of the game. Safety Duron Harmon delivered, intercepting Texans QB Davis Mills as Houston was desperate to notch a touchdown and get back in the game late. Especially on a Raiders defense in sore need of big plays and takeaways. The Raiders actually scored touchdowns on four consecutive drives to close this ballgame, starting just before halftime. Carr’s best play occurred as the Raiders threatened to score on their first drive of the second half. Quarterback Derek Carr had another solid day, finishing with 241 yards through the air on 21-for-27 passing and one touchdown. The win sustained Las Vegas’ hopes for a playoff birth after their 1-4 start. 683 of his rushing yards came after contact, he forced 60 missed tackles (third in the NFL behind Jonathan Taylor and Javonte Williams), and he had eight carries of 15 or more yards for 169 total yards. Josh Jacobs carried the Raiders — again — in must-have win over ... (The Athletic)

Jacobs delivered his third straight game with 140-plus yards and matched a career high with three TDs to lead the Raiders to a 38-20 win.

I’m just trying to find a way to approach going about working every day to bring out the best out of everybody.” If I don’t play good the rest of the season, everything I did up to now don’t really mean nothing. Of course, we’re trying to do our best up front and open up these holes for him, but he’s taken advantage of the tiniest creases and making all the right reads and making defenders miss and getting the ball downhill for us. “You always need more than one defender to bring him down, he’s doing a great job with the ball security and the piles are moving forward. As much as Jacobs deserves credit for his performances as of late, the offensive line also deserves its just due. Rather than brood about it, Jacobs brushed it aside, put in the work and is playing the best football of his career. In the huddle and on the sidelines, Jacobs is in active communication with the offensive line about areas where they can improve. It’s a continuation of a startling turnaround for Jacobs after the Raiders elected to decline his fifth-year option this offseason. Thanks to one of the greatest stretches of rushing performances in franchise history, the Raiders (2-4) aren’t done just yet. In a stretch in which the Raiders turned a 13-10 third-quarter deficit into a comfortable 38-20 victory, Jacobs was the key. Raiders Week 7: Biggest Duds And Disappointments vs. Texans (The Raider Ramble)

The Raiders came out on top in Week 7 but it's not without some red flags following the game, let's take a closer look.

For the rest of the game, there were no signs of a pass rush outside of some blitzes. Tashan Reed of The Athletic says that early on in the game, Moehrig was being replaced by Duron Harmon in some packages. They are a waste of time and downs because they are ineffective more than half the time. The thing that makes it worse for the Raiders is that they have no push from their interior defensive line. In order for the defense to get better, Moehrig needs to play better, so hopefully the two can work this out. Graham needs to use Moehrig more frequently in deep third safety, as that is where he excels. It took them until the final minutes of the second quarter to score a touchdown because they were unable to get anything going. He was getting burned by tight ends and receivers in the game against the Texans. It wasn’t pretty because [the first half was subpar](https://raiderramble.com/2022/10/23/raiders-texans-sloppy-first-half-week-7/) and the Raiders didn’t start to pull away [until the fourth quarter](https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401437800). The Raiders’ offense exploded in the fourth quarter once Jacobs started carrying the ball more frequently. [Houston Texans](https://raiderramble.com/2022/10/19/texans-vs-raiders-lovie-smith-defense-22/), the Las Vegas Raiders picked up their second victory of the year. The Raiders offense had a dreadful first half, to put it mildly.

3 Takeaways from Raiders' Week 7 Win vs. Texans (Bleacher Report)

A week off and a favorable matchup against a struggling team were just what the Las Vegas Raiders needed to get their season back on track.

However, the Raiders will be on the road for four of the next five weeks, with the Nov. “The biggest thing for me is I want to get in the playoffs,” Jacobs said, per Ramirez. Each of Las Vegas' next four games is against a team with either a losing or .500 record: the New Orleans Saints (2-5), the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5), the Indianapolis Colts (3-3-1) and the Denver Broncos (2-5). Las Vegas Raiders Houston Texans Week 7 game review (Silver and Black Pride)

Las Vegas hits blackjack in fourth quarter as sloppy first half leads to final-stanza dominance of Houston.

—Raiders receiver Mack Hollins ran a solid route and leapt up to haul in Carr’s 26-yard dart for the touchdown to tie the game at 10 apiece late in the second quarter. —Houston quarterback David Mills operated with comfort for much of the first half and finished 28 of 41 for 302 yards and two touchdowns. His seven-yard power run with 13:32 on the clock in the fourth quarter put the Silver & Black ahead 24-20 and his most impressive score, a 15-yard gallop that showcased his patience, vision, power and speed, with 7:06 left to play capped his afternoon and gave the Raiders a 31-20 lead. You can play single-high and do it certain ways to just get help there and it gives you good angles in the run game, or it gives you this or that. He’s arguably the best safety in the Las Vegas secondary. And Josh is one of the best backs in the league. Had a couple penalties in the kicking game. That was a welcome sight considering the sloppy Raiders football that preceded it — something that wasn’t flattering for a team coming off a bye. In what was truly a tale of two halves, the host Raiders were akin to the degenerate gambler who pisses away his money at the casino habitually. And just like the illustrious poem, the Raiders pillage for fun, knocked the Texans ‘round and upside down and laughed when they conquered and won. Like any desperate gambler looking to swing their fortune, the Raiders hit blackjack when they needed it most: 21 points in the all-important fourth quarter. But something started to happen in the second half.

'Figured Out': Raiders Crack Texans' Code Late for Massive 4th ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Las Vegas Raiders felt they figured out the Houston Texans in some key ways to pull off a 21-point fourth quarter en route to victory.

For the Texans, there was strong execution offensively through three quarters with a season-high 404 yards and 20 points on the board. Before the Texans can re-emerge as a winning organization, greater consistency will be required. “I come back to them all the time because I feel like it’s the first time in a long time where I’ve had four to five yards without being touched by anybody. “It’s all them — the players win the game. Josh Jacobs was instrumental in the Raiders' efforts as he rushed for a total of 143 yards with three second-half touchdowns. Las Vegas not only did that but they managed to to use 21 fourth-quarter points to win by an 18-point margin.

Texans defense suffers utter collapse against Raiders (Texans Wire)

LAS VEGAS – The Houston Texans defense has been rancid through six games this season, and that is putting it in PG-13 terms. If we get into the run defense, ...

The performance by Jacobs is the beginning of a tough month for the Texans’ run defense. We have to understand that it takes a group effort to take down a special back like that. Houston is giving up 411.8 yards per game to opposing offenses, ranking them 31st in the league, right above the Detroit Lions. “That’s normally when it comes down to when you give up big plays like that.” They were coming off the bye week that had positive vibes all around after Houston got their first victory of the season over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5.
