In the Returns of Tua Tagovailoa and Brian Flores, the Dolphins ... (The New York Times)

The N.F.L. has been bedeviled by its attempts to better evaluate players for concussions and to hire diverse head coaches. In the Dolphins' win over the ...

Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin said last week in a news conference that he did not feel the game carried more significance because of Flores’s return. As a defensive lineman slung him to the ground in the second quarter of that game, Tagovailoa had the back of his head smash against the field, and his fingers contorted into a “fencing” response that can be a sign of a brain injury. In his filing, Flores also alleged that Ross had violated league rules by recruiting quarterback Tom Brady and Coach Sean Payton, and that Ross had pressured Flores to intentionally lose games to net a higher draft pick. The league said it found no evidence of “tanking” after concluding an investigation in August, but Ross was fined $1.5 million and suspended 11 weeks for violating the league’s tampering policy for his contact with Brady and Payton. But Pickett threw a pass toward the end zone that was intercepted by Noah Igbinoghene with 25 seconds left, effectively ending the game. With the Dolphins leading, 16-10, with three minutes remaining in the game, Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett fired a pass to Diontae Johnson from the Dolphins’ 30-yard line. He started strong — completing five of six passes for 60 yards on the first drive, ending with a 8-yard touchdown pass to Raheem Mostert to put Miami ahead, 7-0. “For me, I’m all for player safety, but when I hear guys saying, ‘That’s the Tua Rule,’ or ‘This is a rule because of Tua,’ I don’t want to be known as that,” Tagovailoa said. Tagovailoa said last week that he remembered much of that night until the injury, which caused him to go unconscious. 29 against the Bengals](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/29/sports/football/tua-tagovailoa-head-injury.html), an injury that altered the entire N.F.L. Dolphins-Steelers Week 7 Complete Observations (DolphinMaven)

-- Along with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, tackle Terron Armstead returned to the lineup after missing the Week 6 game against the Minnesota Vikings because of ...

-- The Dolphins went three-and-out again the next time they had the ball, the drive ending with Tua coming up 1 yard short on a third-and-8 scramble where for the second time in the game he took on the defender instead of sliding. -- With Mostert on the sideline, the Dolphins hand off to Chase Edmonds on third-and-2 from the Steelers 13 and he's stuffed for a 1-yard loss. -- There's a reason the Steelers don't throw the ball downfield very often, and it shows up here as Holland reads Pickett and jumps his pass inside the Dolphins 20 to make the pick. Pickett explains after the game there was a mix-up in that he thought Diontae Johnson would move back toward him in the end zone, which made it look like a pass intended for Igbinoghene, who deserves props for his ability to get both feet down before his momentum carries him out of bounds. Still, with the Steelers getting the ball back with 2:31 left, this is a failure by the offense. The Steelers are facing a third-and-1 when they have Pickett run a sneak, but they get flagged for an illegal shift. -- The Dolphins' next drive ended after only one first down due to a combination of miscues. Chris Boswell ended the drive with a 45-yard field goal to cut the Dolphins lead to 13-3. On fourth-and-3 from the 14, McDaniel bypasses a chip-shot field goal attempt and has Tua hand off to Edmonds again, and he's again stuff, turning the ball over on downs. -- The Dolphins then got the benefit of a bad punt from the Steelers' Pressley Harvin III, but lost some of the great field position when Elijah Campbell was flagged for holding. -- The defense finally got a turnover, its first in four games on Pittsburgh's next drive when Justin Bethel took advantage of intended receiver Chase Claypool falling to make an easy pick downfield. -- Tua committed a big no-no when he scrambled after a naked bootleg and lowered his shoulder to take on a Steelers defender instead of just sliding.

Garo Yepremian: The One-of-a-Kind Story Behind the '72 Dolphins ... (Sports Illustrated)

You know about the blooper in Super Bowl VII. The man's journey through football's highest level, one of comedy and tragedy, was so much more.

He wrote a book and gave the proceeds to the foundation. “This is the first time,” he said, “the goat of the game is in the winner’s locker room.” “He’d take a sip of a vodka gimlet, take a sip and leave it on the table. “But he was the kind of guy to go home to his family.” But for the second straight year, Yepremian was hardly in a jubilant mood after the Dolphins won the championship. The important thing is to remember and be happy about it and all of the good things that have happened to you and the Dolphins … He started it in the basement of his home, but business boomed and soon he had to rent space. But in the basement of his Miami home, he turns into tie‐maker. He then went to Fort Carson in Colorado to serve as a cook and spent 1969 in the Army Reserves. It was the mid-’60s, and Krikor, seeking to accelerate his assimilation in the U.S., attended a Hoosiers football game. He made plans to open a silk tie business, carrying on a family tradition, as his father sold fabric in Cyprus and his mother had worked as a seamstress. Aggressively, he ran to the ball and grabbed it off the second bounce.

Will Tua Tagovailoa be able to knock off the final remnants of rust in practice this week in order to turn in a stellar performance against the Lions next Sunday? Secondly, McDaniel’s decision to go for it on 4th and 3 deep into Steelers’ territory, up by six points, instead of kicking a field goal which would have given the Dolphins a two-score lead on a night when Miami’s defense was playing lights-out ball, was flat out just the wrong call. Well, Coach, having faith in your players is great, but not to the potential detriment of the final score. For one, he needs to get the playcalls in sooner. In addition to the Igbinoghene pick, special teams ace, Justin Bethel, came away with an interception on a play where Diontae Johnson stumbled while the Kenny Pickett pass was in the air. Defensive backs, Kader Kohou and Keion Crossen, were ruled out of the contest just prior to kickoff.

Steelers vs Dolphins Takeaways: There's Good That Came With The ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Steelers got a glimpse of Kenny Pickett's final drive poise and saw some positive adjustments by their defense against a very explosive offense. Rookies ...

Dolphins blitzed the Steelers in the first quarter and put them on their heels. A rookie is going to try and be a hero, and a lot of the time, that's going to result in a mistake. [bookmark All Steelers](https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/) for the latest news, exclusive interviews, film breakdowns and so much more! These two teams played hot potato with a victory and despite their best efforts, Miami ended up with one in their hands. Instead, the Steelers, a decidedly less talented unit than who stood across the line of scrimmage from them, buckled down and got creative with their coverages. Pickett looked flustered and far from the unnaturally calm, collected rookie that he'd been during his first two appearances and it ended in two costly interceptions and a sub-200 yard night. Miami made questionable decisions on fourth down - both whether to punt or go for it and what plays to run when they did decide to be more aggressive. Late in this game was the first time I've seen Pickett get sped up since taking over as a starter. Pickett's performance wasn't great, but it did show some glimpse of positivity in the way he was able to stay poised. And it feels like Pickett is in for a lot of those situations this season. It kind of felt like a night Pickens could've went for 100-plus yards and helped Pickett put this game on their back. Rookies made plays and the group feels like they grew in Miami.

Jevon Holland celebrates 4th-quarter interception but just as happy ... (Palm Beach Post)

McKinley entered the game when starting safety Brandon Jones went down with a knee injury in the third quarter.

“He’s a great player,” said cornerback Justin Bethel, who had the first of the Dolphins’ three interceptions off Pickett. “I’ve been working for this for a minute, so this was amazing,” said McKinley, who was elevated to the active roster for the opener against the Patriots but did not play. “When technique meets opportunity, splash plays happen, and that is what it was,” Holland said of his interception. “I just hope my mom and dad saw that one. That created an opportunity for the undrafted free agent who joined the team in May to see his first pro action. “Thank you for asking me about him,” Holland said.
