Denver’s defense gave them the ball back after forcing the Jets to punt and Nathaniel Hackett pulled out an impressive play from his playbook. The Broncos’ offense took over the first possession of the second half but came up one yard shy on a third down play to Courtland Sutton. Shortly after that, Rypien unloaded a pass across the middle of the field to a wide-open Jerry Jeudy for a 45-yard gain. The Broncos’ offense started their second offensive series on their own 39-yard line after a Jets punt, giving them decent field position. Denver would have another opportunity to convert on a 3rd and 4, but a pass to Jeudy fell incomplete, resulting in Corliss Waitman booming a 44-yard punt resulting in a fair catch at the Jets’ own 13-yard line. Denver’s defense forced a quick three-and-out and would get the ball back with 1:30 left in the game and no timeouts. After a Rypien interception, Denver’s defense started out with their backs against the wall on their own 39-yard line. Denver’s defense would take the field again after the offense punted on their second possession of the 2nd half. After a Broncos field goal gave them a 9-7 lead, Denver’s defense took the field once again. The Jets would start on Denver’s 46-yard line after the miss.

He’s the head coach, and he’s calling the offensive plays. They need to do the simple things well on offense and sustain some drives. They must control the ball for longer and run some clock at times. And the list goes on. The offensive line has struggled in both pass and run blocking. The lack of leadership has shown up in the way he benched tight end Albert Okwuegbunam, who was inactive today. Wilson’s played poorly with Denver in six games, sure, but to put the blame on him is failing to see all the other issues with the Broncos. They face the most criticism and their play is pivotal for teams. Unfortunately for New York, he injured a knee in the first half and was done for the game at that point. That was, outside of Breece Hall, the running back who took off for 62 yards and a score in the first quarter. They punted four times, turned the ball over on downs twice and Brett Rypien threw an interception as he played for the injured Russell Wilson. That’s only 16.4 points per game, which is third-best in the NFL after this weekend.

Brandon McManus is the longest-tenured Denver Broncos player on the current roster, but it's time to move on from the veteran.

In 2021, McManus ranked 26th in the NFL with a field goal percentage of 83.9%. I think McManus has gotten too comfortable being a below-average kicker since I’m not sure he’s ever had competition for his job during his time in Denver. Even the best kickers in college don’t usually get drafted until the mid-late rounds. [Brandon McManus](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McMaBr01.htm) has been consistent for the Denver Broncos, but he’s been consistently below average for the Broncos. His questionable handling of Melvin Gordon’s benching and then calling him the starter a week later was a head scratcher. He just doesn’t have it and keeping him around past this season would be a major mistake. There is a lot to be frustrated about with this team.
