Resident Evil 4 remake has "barely any" QTEs (Eurogamer.net)

Last night brought us our best look yet at Capcom's ambitious Resident Evil 4 remake, which Eurogamer's editor-in-chief…

"From being previously sceptical about the worth of a remake, I'm now fascinated to see how that new dynamism finds its way into the rest of this reimagined Resident Evil 4." This opens up the question of how the dog's later reappearance will now be treated - as the option to save the hound gave Leon a distinct advantage in a later boss fight. By the time Leon turns up in the remake, the dog is already dead and decomposing. Ones where you had to spam buttons to avoid falling boulders seemed a little ridiculous. It'll be interesting to see how the remake adapts this. The whole team has been working to properly fit what some would call QTEs into the actual game."

You Can't Save The Dog In Resident Evil 4 Remake (TheGamer)

It's clear that's the same dog we saved all those years ago in the original, but Leon Kennedy was too late this time. And without them later on, there'll be ...

Maybe Leon took it home and kept it, or maybe they left to fend for themselves in the wilderness. El Gigante was notoriously harder if you didn't save the dog, turning it into a mini-challenge mode where you'd be stuck fending for yourself without any means of distracting them for easy attacks. It doesn't have the same ring to it, but it might just work. Unless it's Capcom pulling a big publicity stunt and it plans to surprise us with the dog in a future teaser or social media post - "Hey! Sorry, That Dog - you'll have to wait for the modding community to right this wrong. You can't save them in [the remake](https://www.thegamer.com/resident-evil-4-remake-gameplay-trailer/), which has sent the community into mourning.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Makes Heartbreaking Change (Game Rant)

New footage of the Resident Evil 4 remake suggests that the new game is going to be making a heartbreaking change.

As pointed out by IGN, the dog in the Resident Evil 4 remake appears to already be dead when players find it in the bear trap. Then again, killing the dog does set a grim tone for the game right off the bat, reiterating that this new version of Resident Evil 4 is darker and more serious than the original, so perhaps players really won't be able to save it this time around. [Resident Evil 4](http://gamerant.com/tag/resident-evil-4/) remake may be taking away the ability to save the dog. The Resident Evil 4 remake looks like it's going to be a mostly faithful recreation of the original RE4 while still making some serious changes. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake modernizes some now-dated ... (Ars Technica)

New stealth moves, knife parries, and run-and-gun action replace old-fashioned QTEs.

Hirabayashi also tells IGN that players will be able to customize their briefcase with various charms and colors. The knife can also be used for follow-up attacks (including a Last of Us-style plunge into an undead neck) or emergency escapes when grappling with an enemy. "I can say that there aren't prompts to press buttons mid-cutscene," Hirabayashi said. Hands-on impressions from journalists who played a short demo suggest you can use this ability to sneak up on enemies and take them out with stealth attacks from behind. Game design has come a long way since Resident Evil 4 first hit the GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2005. That might seem like a necessary part of any action-oriented third-person shooter today, but Resident Evil 4 still had one foot in the more awkward "stand your ground" shooting of its PlayStation 1 predecessors when it launched.

The Internet Mourns the Dog in Resident Evil 4 Remake - IGN (IGN)

Capcom showed off a hefty chunk of gameplay from the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake, and fans noticed one key difference.

S, and Stadia in 2023.](/videos/starfield-performance-preview) Sadly he doesn't make it in the RE4 Remake it seems 😭— 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 (@RuleTimeSpace) Saving the dog and later being saved by the dog gave the OG game this "wholesome" feeling amidst the darkness. Poor doggo, but might be demonstrating early this is a darker, more morbid take on Resident Evil 4, a bit more twisted.— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) Other RE fans handled the news differently, with some theorizing this represents a "darker, more morbid take" on the events of Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil 4 Remake Screenshot Shows New Merchant UI (Game Rant)

Revealed during the Resident Evil Showcase, the Merchant is returning in the Resident Evil 4 Remake with a new UI and a new mechanic.

The functionality of the Merchant's shop appears to be the same as the original game, only expanded upon in small parts, a big change is in way the shop is presented to the player. A new feature will allow Leon to trade a specific currency, which appears to be akin to pink gemstones in the screenshot, can be traded for special items, such as other treasures, a red dot sight, and the Punisher handgun, which is also returning from the original game. The Merchant, despite not playing any major role in the original game's story, became a fan-favorite, and it's sure to please many that he is indeed coming back in the remake.
