D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard? Fantasy Outlook for Panthers ... (Pro Football Network)

Should D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard be a priority addition for fantasy football managers after the departure of Christian McCaffrey?

The opportunity to add a lead back mid-season is rare. Overall, Foreman led seven to four, but Hubbard was the only one to have seen more than two touches in a single game. In Carolina, both Foreman and Hubbard are exactly that. The gain in fantasy value in Carolina is relatively minimal because we do not expect either back to a top-24 fantasy option going forward. Most leagues have cleared their mandatory waiver period, but if you are still in it, then spending as much as 20-25 percent of your FAAB in non-PPR scoring is not out of the question. He will ultimately be one injury away from being a starter, and his work as a passing-game back should mean he is at least a desperation starter during the bye weeks. He is the slightly bigger of the two backs, which is where teams tend to look when it comes to short-yardage and goal-line work. Neither Foreman nor Hubbard had seen more than three touches in a single game to that point. One other element that could suggest Hubbard will be the main pass-catching back is their career usage. Let’s look at the fantasy value of Foreman and Hubbard and how fantasy managers should prioritize the two running backs. However, Hubbard saw the only target that either of them has seen so far. Foreman came in this past offseason on a one-year contract after flashing potential with the Tennessee Titans in 2021.

Chuba Hubbard or D'Onta Foreman: Evaluating the Carolina ... (Sportsnaut)

Is Chuba Hubbard or D'Onta Foreman the must-add for fantasy football managers after the Christian McCaffrey trade? We answer the question.

Far more troublesome from a fantasy perspective, Carolina ranks 21st in points per play (0.319) and it runs the fewest offensive plays per game (53.8). With limited scoring opportunities and considering the current state of the Panthers’ offense, though, neither player is going to make a significant impact for fantasy managers moving forward. Tampa Bay allowed 100 rushing yards and 5.0 ypc to the New Orleans Saints in Week 2, 189 rushing yards and 5.1 ypc to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 and 151 rushing yards with 4.9 ypc against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5. Keep in mind that the Panthers’ offensive line ranks 16th in the NFL in Pro Football Focus’ run-blocking grade. Moving forward, anyone on the Panthers’ offense should be viewed as a bench player and that includes D.J. McCaffrey then suffered another injury later in the season, missing the final five games from Week 14-18. Of the 124 rushing attempts from the Panthers’ offense, 14 came from [quarterback Baker Mayfield](https://sportsnaut.com/player/baker-mayfield/) with wide receiver D.J. Considering Foreman only has 18 career receptions in 32 games, that would push him to the bench if things get out of control for Carolina. The Buccaneers have one of the best run defenses in the NFL this season. While there are plenty of impacts of it from an NFL perspective, it also impacts fantasy football with managers choosing between running backs D’Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard on the waiver wire. That’s already a game script that works against the running back’s favor on the team projected to trail throughout, but it’s made even worse because of the opponent. D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard: Who is a better fantasy pick? (Sportskeeda)

The possibility that D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard may become viable free-agent acquisitions was always percolating in the background for fantasy football ...

If your FAAB budget is limited, Chuba Hubbard is the best choice. He gained 566 yards on the ground and three touchdowns in nine matches while also catching nine passes for 123 yards. However, the sample size is so small that it is difficult to draw meaningful conclusions from those figures. Hubbard, who the Panthers had selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft following a not-so-impressive rookie season, was beginning his second season at the time. Hubbard has not received many receptions this campaign, similar to D'Onta Foreman. [McCaffrey](https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/christian-mccaffrey)'s departure leaves the Panthers with little security at the slot.

Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer expects Foreman to get most of the work on early downs.

For Fantasy Managers Who Sprinted To Pick Up A Carolina ... (OutKick)

Fantasy football managers who sprinted to pick up Panthers running backs D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard are probably toast.

In the issue of transparency, I grabbed Foreman. Not a terrible idea, either – especially with how bad running backs have been this year. [swivel late Thursday night](https://www.outkick.com/christian-mccaffrey-fantasy-owners-may-still-want-to-use-him-against-kansas-city-chiefs/), you likely sprinted to the waiver wire and tried to grab either Chuba Hubbard or D’Onta Foreman after the Carolina Panthers traded Christian McCaffrey for a sack of potatoes.

That said, we have yet to see how Carolina approaches its backfield and Hubbard should be the one favored in PPR formats all things equal and/if he can overtake Foreman in the depth chart. Forget about Foreman getting targeted often, let alone catching those looks and boosting his fantasy tallies on PPR formats. 1 rusher (and fourth-best fantasy RB in PPR leagues) The truth is that on such a low volume as both rusher have enjoyed, none has reached even 4.0 measly FP through Week 6. Hubbard outworked Foreman but even then the latter got 144 opportunities through his nine games played (three of those labeled "starts") of which he was good to turn 142 in actual touches. With McCaffrey missing more than half of the 2021 season, it was all about Hubbard and Foreman taking on the reins of the Panthers backfield last season.

2022 Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Player Spotlight: D'Onta ... (FantasyAlarm.com)

Howard Bender breaks down the Carolina Panthers backfield to figure out whether D'Onta Foreman or Chuba Hubbard takes over for Christian McCaffrey.

But if your worst running back is somewhere around [Brian Robinson](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/309684/Brian-Robinson) or even [Melvin Gordon](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/303321/Melvin-Gordon), you might be better-served leaving them alone and let your competition fight it out. [Kenyan Drake](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/304000/Kenyan-Drake) or [Tyler Allgeier](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/310071/Tyler-Allgeier), then fine. What they also got was a running back controversy that leaves fantasy football players wondering if it will be [D’Onta Foreman](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/304951/donta-foreman) or [Chuba Hubbard](https://www.fantasyalarm.com/nfl/players/308939/Chuba-Hubbard) who takes the reins of their backfield. If you are looking to add him this weekend, it will probably take a healthy FAAB bid somewhere in the 25-30-percent range, depending on people’s needs and remaining budget, but you need to temper expectations as the Panthers are still a hot mess with no legitimate quarterback. But that was it for Foreman and heading into the 2022 season, there weren’t many offers, this forcing him to sign as McCaffrey’s back-up. At six-feet tall, 235 pounds, Foreman had the size to be an imposing and bruising back, but he was also lauded for his speed and agility.
