[Jrue Holiday](http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3995/jrue-holiday) reminded him of former 76ers point guard Mo Cheeks, whose No. Harden, whose nagging hamstring injuries from last season seem behind him, had a bucket that capped a 13-0 run, all done with Embiid on the bench. Harden finally got the Sixers rolling in the fourth when he scored eight straight points and cut a 12-point deficit to single digits. The 76ers forced shot clock turnovers and forced the Bucks out of bounds. He had six against the Celtics. "You've got to try and keep him off his spot as much as possible. Sixers' fourth-quarter rally falls short in 90-88 loss to Milwaukee ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Despite James Harden's impressive efforts, the Sixers lost their second consecutive game against an Eastern Conference contender.

That included a seven-point burst in the second quarter, when he hit a three-pointer and a floater and later finished inside. The Bucks (1-0) led by as many as 12 points early in the fourth quarter, before the Sixers (0-2) roared back with a 17-5 run anchored by Harden and a small-ball lineup to set up the tense final minutes. Instead, Paul Reed held that role, spelling Embiid during his traditional break for the first five minutes of the second quarter. You have to move on and get to the next game.” Forward Georges Niang was the sixth man Thursday, but only played a sporadic eight minutes because Tucker matched Antetokounmpo’s minutes. Tucker, a veteran who is lauded for his defensive versatility, drew the primary defensive assignment. I [studied] him a lot for years, obviously playing with him, I just know him really well.” Embiid, who was the runner-up for the award the past two seasons, added 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists but went 6-of-21 from the floor. That was the final of several open perimeter looks the Sixers allowed all night. James Harden willed the Sixers back in the final quarter. Tucker broke the tie with less than a minute to play. You knew from the day they released the schedule that they were coming.

While he certainly got off to a better start tonight than in Boston, it still feels like the Sixers need more out of Joel Embiid. His 11 points and five boards ...

They went to the hot hand and it just didn’t fall. - Despite how dead the Sixers looked at the end of the third, Harden did his best to make sure they did not go quietly into the night. - It was clear to see that the starters still have some figuring each other out to do offensively. Eight of his points came in the frame and he was also able to frustrate Embiid defensively. - Harden’s eight-point flurry to start fourth sparked a 13-0 run that saw Philly tie the game up at 80. This quarter was easily the best paint defense the Sixers have played all season, and they were able to cut the lead to two going into the half. Despite that success, the Sixers were just never able to hit the shot to pull ahead. - While he certainly got off to a better start tonight than in Boston, it still feels like the Sixers need more out of Joel Embiid. - The Sixers’ offense excelled in the third whenever they attacked Grayson Allen. His seven-point flurry in the first four minutes was crucial to keeping Philly close in the game. Despite a 31-point performance from James Harden, the Sixers were unable to complete the comeback. A Wesley Matthews three with thirty seconds left was the decider and the Sixers fell, 90-88.

Player grades: Bucks come away with road win over James Harden ... (Sixers Wire)

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers returned home to open that portion of the schedule on Thursday to take on the Milwaukee Bucks looking to get back on ...

He wasn’t great defensively, but the effort and the energy was very helpful to this team. He was hugely important in the second quarter making plays on both ends of the floor in order to get Philadelphia back in the game. It’s still very early, obviously, but he was brought here for his shooting and he hasn’t been able to cash in on any of them in these first two games. Harris scored early when the Sixers identified a mismatch he had with Grayson Allen, but it seemed that the Sixers did not really look his way too often. There were a few instances where he used his speed in the open court for easy buckets and that is something Philadelphia has been preaching on offense. After being a ruthless scorer in Boston, he was looking for his teammates more in this one.

Sixers vs. Bucks: James Harden, Sixers storm back but fall to 0-2 (NBC Sports)

The Sixers got another outstanding performance from James Harden but fell to 0-2 on Thursday night with a 90-88 loss to the Bucks at Wells Fargo Center.

Two three-point tries didn't fall for Harden with the score 82-82, but an elbow jumper did to knot the contest at 84 apiece. As a team, the Sixers didn’t have the bounce-back defensive effort they wanted in the first quarter. With Reed as the backup five, Harden again started the second quarter next to four bench players. At times, the Sixers showed why they expect to be significantly better on defense than last season. But, with Antetokounmpo on the sidelines, there was at least less reason to be worried Niang’s presence would seriously hurt the Sixers defensively. Embiid bailed the possession out with a three-pointer at the end of the shot clock to cut the Sixers’ deficit to 25-19, but he needed to take a difficult shot because of confused, disorganized spacing around him. Not ideal, but the Sixers will expect him to play his way into peak shape and be at an MVP level this season. Lopez and the Bucks encouraged Embiid to take mid-range shots all night long and were mostly rewarded for that approach. we’ve run Elbow 5 for I think a year and a half now and we had two guys on the same side, so he didn’t have a clear side. Harden drove from the left wing and tried to give the Sixers the lead with a close-range runner, but he couldn’t convert with four seconds remaining. The Harden-Embiid pick-and-roll got the big man an easy foul-line jumper that he sunk on the Sixers’ first possession. Here are observations on their loss to the Bucks:

I’ve seen it in real life. The build-a-wall philosophy that teams often try to deploy against Milwaukee two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s explosive athleticism will be another major test.
