Cardinals insider Bob McManaman hands out his position-by-position grades for the Cardinals following their game Thursday night against the Saints.

He finished with 49 yards on 11 carries, getting most of it on a 17-yard run on the second play of the game. Listen to him live on Fox Sports 910-AM every Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 on Calling All Sports with Roc and Manuch. On the Saints’ ensuing possession, Isaiah Simmons picked off Dalton and returned it 56 yards for the touchdown. It was 28-14 and the Cardinals were rolling. First, Marco Wilson snatched the ball after it bounced off receiver Marquez Callaway’s hands and he ran it back 38 yards for the score. Andy Dalton may have thrown for four touchdowns and 361 yards, but he also was intercepted three times and the Cardinals returned two of them for touchdowns.

There’s a direction that we’re heading and we have to be able to get there faster.” “It’s going to be our task to not let the quarterback escape for a touchdown like we did previously. And then we’re going to go be in a full game where it’s going to take all 60 minutes to try and get a win come tomorrow. “Most of the tackles that we’ve missed have been space tackles, and so just really understanding what our leverage is, where our help is. “Sometimes the game is in space and you’re going against some really good players, so angles are important, and getting 11 guys running to the ball, that’s important. It would be the fourth consecutive start for Dalton. I think our organization has handled this the right way, in taking off the pads and honing in on the mentality and the mind-set to get this job done.” We’ve got to be able to get the bodies back. We don’t have time to worry about what we do or don’t have. “That’s the way the game is played. The biggest thing is just mentally being prepared and understanding the things that we have to improve on.” But that’s the nature of the business when you play a Thursday night game.

That's what Hill is according to the team's depth chart, but his usage makes it clear that he's more of a Wildcat-type quarterback for the Saints. Hill has seen 11 snaps at QB in each of the last two games and will likely continue to be a runner out of the backfield. 3 quarterback, so he likely won't enter the game unless both players in front of him are banged up. The Saints will officially have just two players listed as quarterbacks active for their Thursday night tilt with the Cardinals. He still played in Weeks 2 and 3 despite the back injury, but he has been out of action since. It isn't exactly clear when he suffered that injury, but New Orleans has continued to list it on the team's injury report along with his back problem. Indeed, Winston is set to be one of three quarterbacks active for the Saints on Thursday. He has completed 63.1 percent of his passes for 585 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The other part of the equation is that Dalton has fared well in Winston's stead. First and foremost, he is dealing with back and ankle injuries. Andy Dalton will get the nod as New Orleans' top QB in the prime-time clash. He just isn't making the start.

Saints' Rashid Shaheed could be the next big thing for New Orleans (Saints Wire)

New Orleans Saints wide receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed took the NFL by storm in his debut, looks to follow it up vs Cardinals.

“The atmosphere was incredible,” he recalled.” Once I scored and got to the sideline, it hit me like, ‘This is real life.’ It was an incredible feeling hearing the cheers and roars. But the moment he’ll remember most was his father after the game. He has a lot of opportunity in New Orleans to raise his profile with the opportunities available to him and the coaching of an expert like Saints special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. “When my number is called, I hope to make a play.” Shaheed could be another blooming NFL star to come from the undrafted ranks. Some have questioned why he even went undrafted in the first place, especially after Harty took turned the same trajectory into a rookie All-Pro season. “We like the speed and what (Shaheed) brings to the offense,” offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael said this week. It wasn’t until he arrived at Weber State that special teams coordinator (now the Utah linebackers coach) Colton Swan helped him develop into the threat he became. [miss time with a “significant” turf toe injury](https://saintswire.usatoday.com/2022/10/10/saints-deonte-harty-injury-contract-rashid-shaheed-nfl-weber-state-record/), the team turned to a new face last week. “So, I think that any of these guys (can) continue to grow in this offense.” The explosive wide receiver had only the one touch and nine total snaps in his first ever NFL action. I know that in this league if you’re chopping your feet, pitter-pattering you don’t have a lot of time to make decisions. While the optimism surrounding the undrafted free agent out of Weber State was mostly derived from his outstanding resume as a returner (the FCS all-time leader with 7 kick returns), it was [the 44-yard jet sweep he ran in for a touchdown](https://saintswire.usatoday.com/2022/10/16/saints-vs-bengals-rashid-shaheed-touchdown-highlights/) that ignited the excitement even more.

[Andy Dalton](https://www.nfl.com/players/andy-dalton/)took over for an injured Winston and performed relatively well in his first three starts this season, keeping the turnovers (two) and sacks (four) on the low side. Even still, it was a tough showing for the banged-up Dalton (even in throwing for four touchdowns), and he was never the planned starter to begin with. The Saints entered the game tied with the NFL’s most turnovers (13) and dead last in turnover ratio (minus-7). Benjamin has been buried on the depth chart, but he deserves a role, even when Conner is back. Late in the second quarter, Murray came off the field shouting angrily in the direction of his head coach, and Hopkins was there to mellow Murray out. [Jameis Winston](https://www.nfl.com/players/jameis-winston/)is getting his job back, we think. One play later, the Cardinals ran it in, tying the game on a two-point conversion (which Hopkins had a hand in, drawing a defensive holding call on the first try). Even if it came against a slaughtered Saints depth chart, the Cardinals moved the ball well all night. That won’t happen every week, and the Cardinals did bog down twice early in Saints territory and settle for field goals.

Probably isn't fair to put that kind of pressure on the unit, but when it's going the way it's going for the Saints, all avenues of contribution have to chip in. New Orleans rolled up 494 yards of offense, 25 first downs, converted 6 of 13 third-down attempts and was successful on three of its five trips to the red zone.

Rapid reactions: Cardinals end home losing skid with TNF win over ... (Arizona Sports)

The Arizona Cardinals finally broke their eight-game losing streak at home on Thursday Night Football at State Farm Stadium.

And back on the offense, it’s becoming more clear the Cardinals have something at running back other than James Conner. As for Ingram, the rookie really showed his ability to be that bruising back on the ground and that shifty pass catcher through the air. The stakes were high and the Cardinals delivered. And last but not least, get Greg Dortch the ball more! Arizona looked like it was not slowing down one bit heading into the locker room at halftime, but instead came out and put up back-to-back three-and-outs and watched the Saints add a field goal in between. For the first time in a while, the Cardinals and their fans can just breathe. Even Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins didn’t look like they were totally on the same page. After all, they were on top of the world when he got hurt last year and they served up the first 40-burger in the Kliff Kingsbury era upon his return. Watching Eno Benjamin maul dudes to the tune of 16 touches and 113 yards. Dalton’s end zone interception and the back-to-back-back-breaking pick-sixes were the reason the Cardinals won. That seemed to spark the defense, which then got pick-6s from Marco Wilson and Isaiah Simmons in a span of 64 seconds late in the second quarter. There were still three timeouts called to avoid the expiration of the play clock, the second of which, had Kyler Murray about as mad as we’ve seen him as a pro quarterback.

[Rams](https://theathletic.com/nfl/team/rams/) (20 points), [Eagles](https://theathletic.com/nfl/team/eagles/) (20) and [Seahawks](https://theathletic.com/nfl/team/seahawks/) (19) to that number and lost all three. [Jameis Winston](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/jameis-winston-GwSUuu2yLIbN19fV/) is the winning elixir? Now the Saints are one of the worst teams in that aspect. [Kyler Murray](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/kyler-murray-NS1S9ZYKzjSSbF41/) finished with 234 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown on 20-for-29 passing, while Dalton went 30-for-47 with four touchdowns and three total interceptions. On the Saints’ next drive, Cardinals cornerback [Marco Wilson](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/marco-wilson-vJBgHWmjESvjmO7v/) intercepted Dalton and ran back a 38-yard touchdown. Arizona linebacker [Isaiah Simmons](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/isaiah-simmons-rEx7Pq3sb7A3A1p3/) did the same for a 56-yard score less than two minutes later.

It was Wilson's first career NFL interception. And for the first time since 2015, the Cardinals had two interception return touchdowns in a single game. The ...

"The defense did a great job there with Ham making a great play in the end zone to keep them out. Overall, Simmons believes the defense is heading in the right direction. We were able to play with a lead for the first time all season." The play happened after Saints wide receiver Marquez Callaway had a pass bounce off his hands and into the grasp of Wilson, who returned it 38 yards a touchdown. The defense -- which wasn't perfect, allowing nearly 500 yards -- also got Antonio Hamilton's interception in the end zone to end a long Saints' drive with no points. It wasn't anyone in the vicinity.

'We'll spend some time dissecting where we're at in terms of the first seven games, things that we've got to improve on'

We've got to eliminate those things so that we can begin to win some of these games, rather than coming up on the short end." And I thought overall offensively we played pretty well in the game. He didn't win every one of them, but I thought he challenged on every single one of them. I thought overall, he played pretty well in the game. "I think getting guys back healthy will allow us to do some different things from a schematic standpoint that I think can help us, and obviously we've got some good players that are unavailable to play right now. "I do have optimism, and I think our medical people have some optimism. We're working as hard as we can to get it fixed, but yet, I think the process is, you've got to continue to work on it, continue to work it, continue to work on it. "We'll take the next few days – I told the players to take the next few days off, we'll be back in on Monday with the players. "That's the challenge that we're dealing with. "And there's a lot of things that we've done well. "Most of what I saw was in space (with missed tackles). We'll spend some time over the next few days kind of dissecting where we're at in terms of the first seven games of the season, things that we've got to improve on.

Why did the Saints make Dennis Allen their head coach again? (Saints Wire)

The New Orleans Saints are bad in too many different ways to believe Dennis Allen was the right man for their head coaching job.

They can delay the inevitable, but it’s clear and obvious to anyone watching that, unfortunately, Allen is the same coach now that he was a decade ago, overwhelmed and in charge of the Raiders. They’re prone to mistakes and missed tackles and turnovers. Team leaders like Terron Armstead and Malcolm Jenkins left the team and were not replaced. Allen hasn’t risen to the occasion. It feels like the New Orleans Saints are discovering new and innovative ways to lose each week the Dennis Allen era stretches out further. They fell 42-34 to the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night, plummeting to a 2-5 start to the season.

Jeff Duncan: Saints reach new low point with embarrassing bags-on ... (NOLA.com)

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Super Bowl LVII will be here at State Farm Stadium in less than four months, and it's become abundantly clear that the New Orleans Saints ...

If the Saints weren't embarrassed after their ugly performance against Arizona, they should have been. When veteran cornerback Bradley Roby went out of the game in the first quarter, they were left with three healthy cornerbacks. The short-handed, injury-riddled Saints simply do not have enough firepower on either side of the ball to overcome those kinds of mistakes. The Cardinals entered the game in complete disarray. The Saints have become that team. They desperately need the nine-day break to heal their walking wounded. For all intents and purposes, the game was over. In a head-spinning span of 1 minute and 32 seconds, the Saints’ 14-6 lead turned into a 28-14 deficit. It’s hard to win NFL games when you’re playing with undrafted rookies, street free agents and practice-squad call-ups. Calamity is not the culprit. A week ago, it was the Bengals. Instead, the Saints season has nosedived into a bewildering “whatever could go wrong will go wrong” dystopia, a seemingly endless parade of injuries, turnovers, penalties and mental mistakes.

Alvin Kamara delivered passionate postgame speech after Saints ... (Saints Wire)

Star running back and offensive captain Alvin Kamara delivered a passionate postgame speech after the Saints' loss to the Cardinals.

Except for injuries, the starting lineup is the same as it was to open the season. Time will tell if his words were enough to spur the Saints into action. “They don’t like the feeling in their throat right now,” Saints coach Dennis Allen was asked about accountability in his postgame press conference, answering “I think our team knows that they’re held accountable. [ESPN’s Katherine Terrell](https://twitter.com/Kat_Terrell/status/1583322629146308608), saying that Kamara told them “We’ve got to find our spot. Maybe to such an extent that self-titled body language experts on social media have put his sideline behavior under the microscope at times.
