How Jazz's New Energy Could Alter 2022-23 Outlook (Sports Illustrated)

It might disappoint the pro-tanking fan base, but the Jazz have plenty of draft picks and assets to be flexible in the coming years. If the Jazz continue at this level, though, this team could easily be a 39-to-43-win team. Vivint Arena is known for its rowdy and loud fans, but the energy hasn’t been matched for over a year. All the preseason games seemed to reinforce the notion that this team was in store for a dreadful regular season. [Utah Jazz](https://www.si.com/nba/team/utah-jazz) opened their 49th season as a franchise with an uncertain roster and future. [Sacramento Kings](https://www.si.com/nba/team/sacramento-kings).

We have to move on and focus on the Browns." It's early on in the season and we aren't where we're supposed to be, but it means a lot to him." He had a great showing in Triple-A — as he has throughout much of his career — and earned a 16-game look with the Giants late in the year. Jackson sees this week as a time for the Ravens to get on a roll. In the fifth inning, with Aaron pitching for the Phillies and Austin at the plate for the Padres, the oldest brother put both siblings in the record books. “There is one allegation in the ESPN article that I feel it is important to address immediately. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959. The NFL and NFLPA made modifications to the league's concussion protocols following Tagovailoa's pair of highly publicized on-field incidents in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills and in Week 4 against the Bengals. “It was a bank error, and we have reached out to the bank to determine what happened, and to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” The bounced check adds to the recent negative headlines surrounding the team. It's also fair to wonder if Sorour and Norman don't want to admit to how much money they initially offered the 15-time Major winner because of how firmly -- and publicly -- Woods has taken a stance against LIV Golf. In a move many expected, Prescott has officially been cleared to return to action and will start Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. Nimmo is somewhat quietly one of the better outfielders in the sport, and he could be rewarded for his excellent platform season with a nine-figure deal.

Recap: Nuggets Lose Season Opener to the Utah Jazz in Bad Fashion (Denver Stiffs)

The Nuggets only made 5/22 from 3 and the Jazz hit 16/38 on the night. The Nuggets attempted to rally, but ultimately it was too little too late. Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon were the only Nuggets with double digit scoring with Jamal and MPJ pitching in 7 each. The Jazz came out of the gates in the second quarter swinging. Standouts in this game were Nikola Jokic who finished with 27 points, 6 rebounds,4 assists, and 3 steals on 12/17 shooting from the field (1/3 3P, 2/2 FT). What started the quarter as a 7 point deficit quickly grew to a 20+ point lead and the Nuggets found themselves down 75-53 at halftime. It didn’t do too well, but the Nuggets only were down 14 going into the final frame. The Nuggets allowed 37 points in the first quarter, and needed to tighten up defensively. Unfortunately for the Nuggets though, there was going to to be no such fate in the second quarter. The Nuggets came out like they didn’t know there was a game. While this wasn’t the story for the whole game, it started with the Nuggets looking good on defense. BUT YOU AINT EVER GON TAKE THE FIGHT OUT OF THE DOG

Lauri Markkanen – The sixth-year forward was acquired by the Jazz in the Donovan Mitchell trade and led the team in scoring during the preseason at 16.5 points per game. The Jazz shot 57% from the field and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. Home Court: Get ready for the Utah Jazz season opener (Axios)

The Utah Jazz tip off their 2022-23 season Wednesday night on the road against the Denver Nuggets.

- The Nuggets are the team of now with a healthy Murray and Porter Jr. And to show that Jordan Clarkson is the former Sixth Man of the Year, not reigning. Meanwhile, the Jazz [ranked](https://www.nba.com/news/2022-23-season-preview-uta)second in the league for points allowed over the last five seasons. Expect him to play a bigger role in crunch time as the Jazz could turn to him to take and make big shots. And he is a walking bucket — meaning points will be abundant anytime he steps on the floor. Players like Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Talen Horton-Tucker are still young and have a lot to prove in this league.

Season-opening stunner: Utah shocks Denver in blowout victory at ... (KSL.com)

Just as expected, the Utah Jazz beat the Denver Nuggets 123-102 to open the season. Wait? What?

"It could be anyone, or five or six guys; we've got to do it with a collective. But each time Denver was on the brink of getting over the hump, the Jazz had an answer. The Jazz had plenty of reasons to keep dancing from then on; the team's lead never fell below double digits again. Every player that played in the game had an assist. "We don't have a guy that is just gonna take over a game that we go to every night," Conley said. It all led to a 22-point lead at halftime.

Jazz 123, Nuggets 102: 4 Winners, 3 Losers (Sports Illustrated)

The Utah Jazz stunned the NBA by handling the Denver Nuggets at home in the season opener.

The rookie posted a double-double in his first game as a pro, finishing the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds. But in the shadow of Walker Kessler's double-double, the pressure is on Vanderbilt to continue holding it down at center. In his first game in Utah, he dropped 15 points and five rebounds. No, a young, new-look Jazz squad put a beatdown on Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. But Sexton was a force to be reckoned with. Based on Utah's overwhelming 123-102 win over the vaunted [Denver Nuggets](https://www.si.com/nba/team/denver-nuggets) in the season opener, first-year head coach Will Hardy and the players are making their voices heard on the subject of tanking.

Yeah, a lot of feelings, a lot of emotions, but I mean overall, just a lot of joy.” “We had a lot of the veteran guys really helping him through tonight and Walker was great. The nerves and excitement of a debut were not feelings exclusive to Hardy on Wednesday night. And we’re all itching to get out there in front of the home crowd and really just get the season going.” When the final buzzer sounded, Mike Conley and some of the Jazz’s veterans rushed onto the court to make sure that the game ball was secured.

Utah Jazz demonstrate just how “different” they are in win over ... (SLC Dunk)

The new-look Utah Jazz show off just how "different" they are in shocking home blowout of the projected championship contender Denver Nuggets.

Kelly Olynyk, however, ran into spots of trouble throughout the game and was limited in his impact potential. The matchup will feature former Jazz great Rudy Gobert with Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley playing their former team for the first time since the trade. Such takes will extend throughout the entirety of the season. The Jazz led 75-53 at the half, 17 points on 12 shots with 4 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a turnover. A solid win like this can be interpreted a myriad of ways: Olynyk started off nice with excellent passing and hitting two 3 balls. Combining that high level shooting with such a drastic volume advantage is fairly rare. As fans awaited tipoff, Vivint Arena projected the 2022-23 season intro video (below): “Different team. The Utah Jazz have boasted a series of initiatives, mottos, or slogans for the upcoming season. Stud of the Game Five players recorded five or more rebounds and seven players recording one or more steals.

Sexton scored six points in the final four minutes of the game and importantly drew a charge on Jokic at a pivotal moment. “His work ethic is one of the best that I’ve come across in my time in the NBA. The Jazz led by as many as 24 points and gave a lot of effort on the defensive end. A double-double in his NBA debut going against the two-time reigning MVP Nikola Jokic is not a bad way to start a career. “We lost three times to Minnesota and his relentless energy was very impactful for the T-Wolves. Before the bench cleared in the final minute of the game, every player on the Jazz had recorded at least one assist.

Utah Jazz spoil Denver Nuggets season opener with 123-102 loss - (Mile High Sports)

“That was the first time I completed a whole game, so it was just nice to complete the whole game. The guy hasn’t played in a long time.” The team is still struggling to find Porter a bit, and only 10 shots probably isn’t enough going forward. “Cut it to seven early in that fourth quarter, but we ran out of gas.” Rather than improve on that mark, the Nuggets somehow regressed, giving up 38 points to a flurry of three-pointers, second chance points, and points in transition after turnovers. The Nuggets pulled within seven of the Jazz midway through the fourth quarter, but back-to-back threes from the Jazz stopped the run in its tracks. On the other side, the Jazz bombed threes, shooting 16-of-38 from three and spacing out the Nuggets interior defense. Denver as a team shot 5-of-22 from three-point range, good for 22% and likely one of their low water marks on the season. A poor defensive run to end the first quarter allowed the Jazz to put up 37 points in the first quarter. Murray began his evening in style, shaking Mike Conley for a step back mid-range jumper that invoked images of the Murray of old. The Jazz won the season opener 123-102, showing that the Nuggets clearly have a long way to go to reach their desired goals. SALT LAKE CITY – In what was meant to be a celebration of returns for the Denver Nuggets, the Utah Jazz played spoiler.
