Lakers News: Odds And Lines For Tonight's Lakers-Warriors Game (Sports Illustrated)

We here at All Lakers want you to enjoy an opening night national game that seems quite likely to be a lopsided Golden State Warriors massacre of your Los ...

[USA Today](https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/2022/10/17/golden-state-warriors-vs-los-angeles-lakers-odds-tips-and-betting-trends-october-18/), Tipico Sportsbook has set the over/under money line for the total game score between the two clubs at 225. Though this writer has no question that the Warriors can notch a winning score in the 112+ point range, I am more dubious that the Lakers can match that, given how erratic the team is shooting from long range. This is a nice way to root for the team that will most likely win tonight to still lose at some aspect of the game, in this case, betting the under for Warriors All-NBA point guard Stephen Curry to make less than 3.5 triples. Given that Golden State is relatively small in its frontcourt (not counting James Wiseman, who will most likely be worked in pretty slowly in spot minutes), and that the Lakers have been striving to feature The Brow more frequently this season, I'd grab that over. Given that Curry has needed 32-34.5 minutes a night to nail those 4.1+ three-point attempts, this feels like a bit of a push. Rounding to whole numbers, that would be just a hair over this line. Considering just how hot Golden State is liable to get from deep, and how miserable the Los Angeles wing defense has looked during the team's 1-5 preseason, I would happily take the over. If the Lakers miss James and Davis, the game is a wrap, but even with their All-Stars available, L.A. For a Lakers fan rooting against Curry, it could be fun to bet on the under, though it comes with plenty of risk attached. Three Things to Know: Lakers at Warriors 10-18-22 (Lakers.com)

The Lakers open their season in Golden State against the Warriors. The pregame show airs on Spectrum SportsNet at 6 p.m., while the game is on TNT ...

“It’s the beginning of a marathon,” he said of the opener. Add reserve Jordan Poole to the mix, and the threat of perimeter shot-making is such that teams haven’t typically been able to stay in base coverages. “We want to try and get better through the season, for sure. Not only do the Lakers have a new staff and mostly-new players on the roster, but they didn’t get to play together much in the preseason. Darvin Ham opted not to reveal his starting lineup, but all signs have pointed to AD being at the five, and LeBron the four on defense, plus three perimeter players. For the Warriors, it’s a largely healthy group, with all of their expected starters and rotation players available.

Lakers vs Warriors and NBA opening night live updates: Score ... (The Athletic)

The Warriors open their NBA title defense Tuesday against the Lakers, but first, there's a celebration: Golden State players will receive their championship ...

They, of course, did not win the title the previous season, but that game had a similar “ring night” feel to it.) The third point guard is normally a floor-general type and contrast to the scoring guards ahead of him. Still, NBA players are creatures of habit, and a prolonged ceremony before a regular-season game the team badly wants to win also represents a sharp break from that routine. Sometimes, I have to remember to score the ball.” The Warriors also dumped one of their two-ways and snatched up Ty Jerome on their quest for a point guard. A questioned, motivated Green is typically a great Green for the Warriors. The motivation for him to have a super charged, high impact regular season and playoffs is obvious. Jordan Poole is moving back to the bench with Klay Thompson in the lineup, but doesn’t need to obsess over how his minute and point totals will impact his market. Juan Toscano-Anderson, who knows the Warriors as well as anyone outside of the organization, said the key to defeating his former team is disrupting their offensive flow and taking away their preferred reads. The Lakers are going to have to scrap their base schemes and adjust to Golden State’s defense-bending shooting. Locking up Davis to start the year would be the kind of opening statement Green wants to start his Defensive Player of the Year campaign. Ham said he plans on sticking with one lineup for a while, and not changing his starters game to game, so this is a grouping that the Lakers will likely try for at least a few games until re-evaluating.

Although they are fresh off winning another title, Golden State's 2022-23 campaign got off to a rough start when Draymond Green punched teammate Jordan Poole in the face during a Warriors practice. Lakers' Anthony Davis hopes 'Street Clothes' no longer fits (Los Angeles Times)

Oft-injured Lakers star Anthony Davis says he doesn't care about the nickname given to him by Charles Barkley, but he does want to be there for his team.

“I only got one goal and that is to play in all 82 games,” he said. “I said, ‘I think this guy is going to be the best player in the league in the next couple of years.’” “I said, ‘I want you to be an animal, bro. But I need you to really turn up.’” I started earlier and was able to feel a lot better.” Davis said he started training two weeks after the Lakers’ season ended April 10, a season in which they failed to make the postseason. In the two seasons when he played in a career-high 75 games, he produced big-time numbers. If he’s a top-five player, they are going to have a chance. “Yeah, I called him, ‘Street Clothes.’ I mean, he’s been hurt more than he has played,” Barkley told The Times. Then the reality of an aging roster, and injuries to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, set in. They want to see him dominate. They want to see the best version of Davis.

Not having [Chet Holmgren](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/66330/chet-holmgren) for the season sucks, but there’s still talent on this team worth watching in [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30582/shai-gilgeous-alexander) and [Josh Giddey](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/64758/josh-giddey). But this season in San Antonio is about Gregg Popovich teaching a young team to get better incrementally, and to see of [Tre Jones](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/50970/tre-jones) or [Josh Primo](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/65143/joshua-primo) can learn to run the point. The Bulls are going to rely on a backcourt combo of [Ayo Dosunmu](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/51185/ayo-dosunmu) and [Alex Caruso](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30418/alex-caruso) to improve their defense. [LaMelo Ball](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/57521/lamelo-ball) is out for the start of the season with a sprained ankle, and they are already without their leading scorer [Miles Bridges](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30583/miles-bridges) (away from the team after an arrest on domestic violence charges, it would be a shock to see him in the NBA this season). Look for another All-NBA season from [Pascal Siakam](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30322/pascal-siakam) and a step forward from Rookie of the Year [Scottie Barnes](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/63426/scottie-barnes). That’s another boost to what should be one of the top offenses in the NBA with [CJ McCollum](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29927/cj-mccollum), [Brandon Ingram](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30297/brandon-ingram), and a team that got out and ran in the preseason to take advantage of Zion’s athleticism. We didn’t see much of the twin towers of [Rudy Gobert](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29944/rudy-gobert) and [Karl-Anthony Towns](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30157/karl-anthony-towns) together in the preseason — they only played together in the final game against Brooklyn (and were -16 in the minutes both were on the floor). No [Joe Harris](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30070/joe-harris) or [Seth Curry](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29992/seth-curry) to start the season leads to questions about whether the Nets will have enough shooting to start the season (especially starting two non-shooters in Simmons and Nic Clayton). The only position battle on the roster ended with [Reggie Jackson](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29705/reggie-jackson) getting named the starter and [John Wall](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29574/john-wall) coming off the bench. The pressure is on the Clippers this season — this is a championship level roster on paper, one that overachieved last season basically without its stars and now get a healthy [Kawhi Leonard](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29695/kawhi-leonard) and [Paul George](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29583/paul-george) to make that run. [Khris Middleton](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/29839/khris-middleton) will miss the start of the season following wrist surgery, and [Pat Connaughton](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30197/pat-connaughton) also is out early, which could expose the wing depth issues of the Bucks to start the season, but they are still going to win a lot of games. With [Jordan Poole](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/51434/jordan-poole) and [Andrew Wiggins](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30038/andrew-wiggins) getting paid, things should settle down.

LeBron James explains why Lakers can't make three-pointers (Los Angeles Times)

LeBron James says it was no surprise that the Lakers made only 25% of their three-point shots in a season-opening loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Then the reality of an aging roster, and injuries to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, set in. “We just got to continue to shoot, shoot, shoot. The Lakers did make four of nine in the fourth, but the game was out of reach by then. I put the work in here, so I live with those results. “And I don’t see myself missing the open looks I had tonight. Get them up in shoot-arounds, individual workouts. Get them up in practice. I mean, I had four or five damn good looks from the three-point line. You continue to defend, you continue to push the ball, you continue to share the ball, you continue to play for one another.” But we’re not sitting here with a bunch of 40-plus [percent] career three-point shooting guys.” “It’s not like we’re sitting here with a lot of lasers on our team. “I mean, to be completely honest, we’re not a team that’s constructed of great shooting.

Buying or Selling Lakers' Biggest Fears This Season (Bleacher Report)

After an offseason of wrenching, the Los Angeles Lakers finally got to road-test the roster they rebuilt around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

AD failed to make any of his five attempts outside the lane. Again, the Warriors are a tough test. Starting at center, AD surged in the first quarter and changed the game on both ends with his length, mobility and skill. Spry, alert and quick off the floor, AD made plays that should give the Lakers hope he can reach his peak levels. But Anthony Davis looked a lot more like the two-way force who barged into "top five in the league" territory during the Lakers' title run in the 2020 bubble. Steph leaves Austin Reaves in the dust with a backcut and-1. Maybe the good news is that this wasn't a total Murphy's Law game for the Lakers. If you're a glass-half-full type, it's actually encouraging that they finished 10-of-40 after one of the more dispiriting starts in memory. 1 of 2022-23 revealed that several of the concerns that plagued L.A. Still, the Lakers now have far more information about their strengths and weaknesses than they did prior to Tuesday's defeat. The Dubs aren't the ideal opponent to face in a search for clarity. [123-109 defeat](https://www.si.com/nba/lakers/news/warriors-blow-out-lakers-in-season-opener-ak1987) at the hands of the Golden State Warriors in Chase Arena, your Los Angeles Lakers frequently looked outgunned, outworked, and just outclassed to kick off what could be a long 2022-23 season. Imagine if Los Angeles had just kept critical role players like Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Danny Green (pre-ACL/LCL injuries), Alex Caruso, and JaVale McGee around this whole time, while upgrading the lead guard spot -- or just keeping LeBron James as the team's de facto point forward. But perhaps that was too tough a puzzle to crack: Some sports writers got into the game. Though the team did look somewhat scrappier on defense, Los Angeles put on a woeful jump-shooting performance. struggled to hold onto the rock, turning over the ball a whopping 21 times.
