"I think that's what kind got me here and I just need to show it at this level on a night-in, night-out basis," said Renouf. Your body's turned to receive a pass, you're cutting yourself up from the easiest pass, which is right up north," said Montgomery. - Jake DeBrusk skated for the first time since he suffered an upper-body injury in the B's season opener in Washington. Matt Grzelcyk also continued to practice with the team. And after a strong training camp showing, Renouf was first defenseman to get the call from Providence. "Like I've always said, you like having people on their strong side, it's easier to see all through the whole ice, right? Montgomery also felt that the 6-foot-1, 198-pounder's style of play was similar enough to Carlo's that it could help fill the void. "Signing here, I wanted to play for the Bruins. And I think he's going to help us tonight against a team that you need to manage your game while against." Just enjoying every day and making sure I make the most of this opportunity." Already down Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk to begin the season, Brandon Carlo suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's win over Arizona and will not be in the lineup against the Panthers. "I coached against him for two years in the USHL and he was the best defenseman on the other team," said Montgomery.

Though the Bruins and Panthers played a game of runs, Boston coach Jim Montgomery could point to one specific moment that shifted momentum.

BOSTON — Jake DeBrusk's career as a member of the Boston Bruins hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows, but that doesn't mean it can't be moving forward.

Despite a late scare by the Panthers, where they scored two goals to cut the Bruins’ lead to a single goal, Jim Montgomery’s squad kept their foot on the gas to a near wire-to-wire victory. It was the first of three Bruins breakaway goals, all of which displayed how Boston was able to hit a second gear that Florida wasn’t. Boston, who has seen 12 different players score a total of 16 goals in its first three games, kept pace with a high-powered Florida club that is expected to have one of the league’s best offenses.

“I didn’t see the hit but obviously they were trying to get after Nosek,” Montgomery said. With their noticeably greater physical presence, the Bruins have stuck together amid heated on-ice moments during the first three games of the Montgomery era. In fact, Montgomery went back to the original plans for Boston’s top six. In his first complete game of the season, DeBrusk collected a goal and an assist, showcasing his high-end speed on both plays. Taylor Hall was skating alongside Patrice Bergeron and Jake DeBrusk to start the night. The Bruins added some snarl following the emergence of bottom-six cogs like A.J. “I think the biggest thing for myself is confidence,” DeBrusk said. More often than not, Matthew Tkachuk’s skilled and edgy brand of hockey will usually provide a certain degree of tension whenever he touches the ice. “We weren’t skating,” Montgomery said regarding the Hall-Zacha adjustment. “I thought we didn’t have our A-game,” head coach Jim Montgomery said following the win. The Bruins are off to a 3-0-0 start to the season and Jake DeBrusk was a big presence in Monday's 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers.
[Tuesday night](https://nesn.com/bets/liveodds/nhl/) when the Bruins travel to Ottawa to take on the Senators. [on NESN](https://nesn.com/watch/). Many questions surfaced about whether [Bruce Cassidy being relieved](https://nesn.com/2022/06/bruins-relieve-bruce-cassidy-of-head-coaching-duties/) of his head coaching duties had anything to do with it, but DeBrusk didn’t confirm nor deny that notion. “I think last year freed me just in general of going through the ups and downs. And it’s one of those things that you want to buy into and obviously make good first impressions and go from there and just build relationships.” He didn’t miss a beat and through the Bruins’ first three games, looks like a completely rejuvenated player.
The Bruins starting the season 3-0-0 is surprising given they are without three players in Brad Marchand, Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie McAvoy.
“Obviously, the big guys out and things like that, we need everybody hands on deck, and I just want to be part of that.” Greer](https://nesn.com/2022/10/a-j-greers-passionate-play-making-him-an-early-bruins-fan-favorite/), Pastrnak playing on the second line with David Krejci, and the defense even stepping in with some offense. Ullmark also had a stellar save on Aaron Ekblad in the beginning of the game on a five-on-three. “I read him perfectly for that one and we capitalized on the next one.” His confidence is evident and was an impact player against the Panthers. DeBrusk told reporters that last season “freed” him and it’s clear whatever monkey that was on his back last year isn’t there any longer. If you watched Monday’s game, you probably saw a mix of different line combinations on the ice. And even though the Bruins nearly let them come back, their “ [pack of wolves](https://nesn.com/2022/10/bruins-notes-bostons-pack-of-wolves-mentality-helps-fuel-win/)” mentality helped Boston hand the Panthers their first loss of the season. Jake DeBrusk led the Boston Bruins to a Monday night win with a surprise two-goal, three point night against the Florida Panthers.
The question is whether this is more than simply a good start for DeBrusk. [Jake DeBrusk](https://bostonhockeynow.com/2022/10/17/boston-bruins-talking-points-bruins-improve-to-3-0-with-5-3-win-over-panthers/) fought his way back into Monday night’s lineup from an injury and potted a pair of goals while playing impact hockey all over the ice in a 5-3 win for the Bruins over the Florida Panthers at TD Garden. Certainly, things feel a lot lighter with players like DeBrusk and Clifton even if the true test won’t be until adversity hits during the regular season. Certainly, it was all on display Monday night as DeBrusk’s speed and refusal to give up on a play allowed him to score just 21 seconds into the game, a tone-setter in a big divisional game between undefeated teams. “I think that’s one thing that helped me at the end of last year was that kind of feeling again. Instead, it’s fairly easy to see that, fair or unfair, DeBrusk chafed under the former Boston Bruins coaching staff, and he wasn’t alone in that regard.

- The Bruins, on the other hand, are having the exact opposite of a terrible start. That the Bruins put up five goals on a team many picked to challenge for the Atlantic’s top spot is another encouraging sign about the potency of the forward corps. When you consider that, plus the fact that a bunch of new guys need to learn how to play together, maybe it’s too soon for Sens fans to be grumbling. The Sens’ strength was supposed to be offense, with an influx of talent up front, but they’ve managed just three goals in two games. Seven goals against in two games. Defense was expected to be an issue, and...yeah.
