Allen-Mahomes reaching Brady-Manning levels of QB matchups, coaching respect and more highlight NFL's marquee game.

And the quarterback that we have and the quarterback that they have is another chapter of the story." "And Kansas City with Andy Reid and the Hunt family, they've got that down. That is at the heart of why Allen vs. The opposite rings true in fact, as two of their last three meetings have come in the AFC Playoffs. That respect is something that transcends beyond the coaches. "Josh is a great guy. They are 8-3 with him in the postseason, including a Super Bowl LIV championship and four straight trips to the AFC Championship Game. Allen had the pressure of turning around an organization who had suffered through a long playoff drought, much like Manning dealt with in his arrival in Indianapolis. They've been at it a little longer than we have," McDermott said. "I think Sean's evolved from an offensive standpoint, which I think is smart coaching," Prisco said. It'd be nearly impossible to describe an ideal NFL matchup at any point in history without mentioning each team's quarterbacks at the top of the list. This specific breakdown won't detail too much of what's to be expected Sunday afternoon, but instead focus on why Bills-Chiefs has turned into the premier NFL matchup.

5 things to watch in Chiefs' Week 6 game vs. Bills (Chiefs Wire)

That’s the type of performance that the defense needs to force in Week 6 to give the Chiefs the best shot at winning the game. In the postseason, he was held to just one catch for 26 yards. Last season he had nine receptions for 76 yards against the Bills in the regular season. But if the offense is to have a quick start in this game, they’re going to need the offensive trenches to get off to a better start. Cullen came to Kansas City from the Jaguars, where he was the defensive coordinator in 2021. Allen was held to 31-of-47 for 246 yards and two interceptions in that game. Could the Chiefs’ defensive line coach actually play a bigger part in this week’s game plan? In four of five weeks this season, he’s led Buffalo in rushing yards or tied for the team lead. He’s tough for defensive backs to get on the ground because of his size. Against the Raiders in Week 5, the offensive line didn’t get out to a great start. Will the offensive line get out to a better start this week? Which team will exit this game in sole possession of first place in the AFC conference?

Chiefs vs. Bills: Week 6 Preview and Predictions (Chiefs Digest)

Can the Kansas City Chiefs get to 5-1 with a Sunday NFL Week 6 win over the Buffalo Bills? Arrowhead Report makes their picks and predictions.

[Marlow Ferguson Jr.:](https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/author/marlow-ferguson-jr) There’s not a coach-player-team combo that commands more trust and respect in the NFL than Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs do. For years, we’ve watched as teams in the AFC have tooled and re-tooled their rosters, using the regular season games against the Chiefs as their version of the Super Bowl. The Bills have looked dominant through five weeks of the season while the Chiefs have looked a bit flustered at times. It is to be expected for the Chiefs, who are in a retooling year and have the seventh-youngest roster in the league. I believe the result of this game means more to Buffalo because of what happened last year in the playoffs, but with that said, Kansas City pulls out a close one at home. [Conner Christopherson:](https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/author/conner-christopherson) This is the matchup of the year. [Joshua Brisco:](https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/author/jbbrisco) Flip a coin and ride the lightning; this game should have all the makings of another Chiefs-Bills classic. The Chiefs are coming off a close win against an underachieving Raiders team. [Mark Van Sickle:](https://twitter.com/MarkTheOverseer) The Bills are coming off an impressive win against an unimpressive Steelers team. That outlook remains the same here, as Josh Allen is arguably the second-best quarterback in the league and benefits from a solid cast of surrounding weapons and a top-flight defense. There's absolutely a world where Kansas City sends a statement at home en route to a win, but I'm siding with Buffalo in a narrow victory on the road. Kansas City's offense remains an efficient machine and its defense is young and hungry, and Buffalo keeps humming along on both sides of the ball with one of the better head coaches in the league leading the way.

The Chiefs are also missing their second round pick, Bryan Cook, a safety out of Cincinnati who was drafted to be a long-term asset there in the secondary to grow behind the aforementioned starters. The Kansas City Chiefs were already hurting with numerous injuries in the secondary, but it looks as their talent and depth will be tested further with an injury to safety Justin Reid. The Chiefs allowed Tyrann Mathieu to walk after three seasons with the team and even other safeties like Daniel Sorensen and Armani Watts signed elsewhere.

Top 3 things we learned from Bills vs. Chiefs | Week 6 (BuffaloBills.com)

Taron Johnson + the Bills defense come up clutch, Allen-Diggs combo delivers and Bills take the lead in the AFC standings.

"We do know the importance of a home playoff game," said Knox. The Bills know it's too early to talk playoff positioning, but the team did set a goal after last season of having the postseason run through Buffalo. Some of the things that we didn't do so good, and you're ready for a really good Green Bay after the bye." So, it actually gives me a level of comfort and it puts me in a different space mentally that I'm out here for a purpose. Allen took a sneak up the middle for two yards to get a fresh set of downs. But when you get to that point of the game, you've got to trust the guys that you rock with. The situation, the moment, that was just a hell of a play for this team." Buffalo's offense came on the field and ran out the rest of the clock to seal the four-point victory. After the Bills offense put them in front 24-20, it was on the defense to preserve the lead with 1:04 remaining and the Chiefs stocked with a pair of timeouts. "Taron has been a guy who's been in the system a long time, who we all trust," said Poyer. Facing a 4th-and-1 at their own 33-yard line it was time for the Bills' two most prolific talents to take over the game. "I told him that was one of the greatest plays that I have seen on the field.

Bills get redemption against Chiefs with better quarterback and Von ... (Rochester Democrat and Chronicle)

KANSAS CITY - Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson remembered what happened in this very same stadium nine months earlier. How could he not, ...

Khalil Shakir made a shaky decision trying to return a punt at the end of the first half and it resulted in a drive start at the 4. Although they denied it to a man, the Bills carried some baggage into this game after what happened here nine months ago. I’ll say this: The Chiefs are a great team and not every call is going to work. I still say that was the wrong call, though, because kicking it to the goal line not only makes the return time longer, it gives the Bills a chance to prevent some yardage. Tremaine Edmunds led the Bills with 10 tackles while Damar Hamlin had seven and Johnson had six, though the bulk of those came on pass plays. On the final possession, Singletary failed to get to the sticks and Allen had to bail him out with a fourth-down QB sneak, his second of the game. It was sweet redemption for Johnson because he had a couple tough plays including a missed tackle that allowed JuJu Smith-Schuster to score on a 42-yard catch and run. Mahomes broke contain a couple times and gained 21 yards, but RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who came into the game averaging 4.46 yards per attempt, was a non-factor. Patrick Mahomes completed 25 of 40 passes for 338 yards and two TDs, but he also threw a pair of killer interceptions that proved costly. How could he not, since he’s had [to live with it ever since](https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/football/nfl/bills/2022/07/23/buffalo-bills-13-seconds-vs-kansas-city-chiefs-must-be-forgotten/65378522007/). He finished 27 of 40 for 329 yards and three TDs, and all three of the scores to Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and Dawson Knox were absolute beauties. Diggs had a huge game as he caught 10 for 148 yards while continually taking advantage of the Chiefs young secondary that featured two rookie starters.

You kind of have to reiterate to guys in the locker room that it's one game in the regular season that you wanted to win, and you felt like you could have won, but you didn't, so how are you going to respond? It marked a tremendous start for the Chiefs' defense, which was missing numerous starters on Sunday, but Buffalo soon broke through in what turned out to be a major sequence in the game. The Bills then marched right down the field, culminating in a 34-yard strike from Allen to Davis that put Buffalo ahead by three points. It was an exhilarating play that marked Smith-Schuster's first touchdown of the season and the first score of 20+ yards that Buffalo had yielded all year. Those miscues included an interception in the end zone on the Chiefs' first offensive possession, a 98-yard touchdown drive by Buffalo that nearly ended in a safety before it even got started, and a missed field goal early in the third quarter. Buffalo just managed to make a few more plays in the end.

Kansas City Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend went viral after the Chiefs-Bills game due to a notice from the NFL.

Townsend’s punting in Week 6 was a weapon for Kansas City when it came to field advantage. As for Kansas City’s defense — the unit struggled overall against the Bills. You were BOMBING it out there,” another user wrote. That Townsend punt inside Buffalo’s red zone was paired with an illegal block in the back, which pinned the ball at Buffalo’s three-yard line. Not that it happened to you, but just how ridiculously obvious they are about it, lol. His best punt of the day came from Kansas City’s 37-yard line late in the first half.

Kansas City Chiefs 2022 NFL season Halloween watch party: How ... (Arrowhead Pride)

Just because Halloween falls on the Chiefs' bye week this year, that doesn't mean you can't still get in the festive mood a little bit early.

One option is to just play it safe, put on your Mahomes jersey, and call it good— but Halloween isn’t about playing it safe, it’s about pressing your luck and confronting the terrors of the night. QB Body Collector: Think of the Bring Out Your Dead guy in Monty Python and The Holy Grail, but instead of wheeling around a cart of black plague victims, you’re wheeling the bodies of opposing quarterbacks who’ve fallen victim to our defense. For instance, you make cookies in the shape of tombstones and decorate them to commemorate the death of the hopes and dreams of Chiefs opponents over the years. Andy Reid: This one is more for the kids. There is nothing cuter than a baby dressed up like Big Red. The cart can make this one a little cumbersome, but it could still be fun. If you wore this out on the town, you would be sure to win any costume competition and people would have to buy you drinks out of sheer obligation to your awesomeness. Top this all off with some fake spider webs and some dry ice, and you’re in business. There are a lot of different directions that you could go with this. Your costume is your opportunity to show all of your friends what a cool and creative person you are— that's why I think you should pull out all of the stops. So why not throw a Halloween-themed party a week earlier? As with any good party, it all starts with the food.

The Five Biggest Takeaways From the Bills' Win Over the Chiefs (The Ringer)

Sunday's matchup was a welcome respite from some of the sloppy football we've seen so far this NFL season—and it offered a few insights into these ...

“So it’s finding ways to put the ball in the hands of our playmakers, getting the right people on the field at the right time. With only 11 defenders on the field and eight other Chiefs players to account for, it was nearly impossible to do all of those things without rushing only three, and giving Mahomes extra time in the pocket to pick apart the secondary isn’t a viable strategy over the course of a 60-minute game. The Chiefs offense simply isn’t built to get defenses out of those two-high shells—not with a run game built around scat running backs who are at their best in the passing game. With the Bills playing plenty of Cover 2 on Sunday, Kansas City asked Kelce (and others) to run a bunch of intermediate out-breaking routes between the deep safety and the cornerback responsible in the flats. Instead of trying to create deep shots in the passing game, Mahomes and company have been more focused on the intermediate areas, with Kelce serving as the centerpiece of the passing game. Or maybe it just goes to show that when times get desperate—when they fall into a hole or come up against a team capable of beating them—the Chiefs will revert back to what they do best. He tried to restructure the Chiefs offense in a way that would force defenses to come out of the two-high coverage shells that have been so effective at limiting Kansas City’s deep passing game over the past two years. Maybe this is a sign that the Chiefs are officially over their ex, Tyreek Hill, and have stopped trying to recapture the magic of the 2018-20 era, when they were pushing the ball downfield seemingly every time Mahomes dropped back to pass. He did it by putting Mahomes under center, where the threat of the run is at its highest, with more big bodies in the box to help the blocking effort. When Allen has shared the field with Mahomes over the past two years, it’s been really difficult to see much of a difference between the two. Allen has been capable of matching Mahomes in the play-making department since he entered the league. It wasn’t just the ramblings of a cranky old man stuck in a bad offense himself—it’s a take that’s also been echoed by fans.
