Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns in a shootout with Nebraska's Casey Thompson.
After a quick touchdown from Nebraska, Purdue was able to run out the final minutes on a 12-play drive. After the victory, Purdue improves to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers led 43-30 with 6:55 left to play in the game. The Cornhuskers struck quickly in the second half, going 71 yards on four plays which ended in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Palmer. “That was a fun time on the sideline,” Purdue redshirt senior defensive end Jack Sullivan said. But Thompson and Palmer struck once again, connecting for a 72-yard touchdown on the subsequent drive. However, the possession ended with nothing to show for it as O’Connell fired a pass into the left corner of the end zone and into double coverage. However, with just 35 seconds left on the clock, Nebraska ripped off two huge runs to get into scoring position, including a 31-yard scamper from Thompson. O’Connell recorded his second scoring strike of the night, hitting Jones on a slant route in stride that he took for 33 yards. The starting signal-caller bounced back with a 2-yard touchdown pass to redshirt junior wide receiver TJ Sheffield to cap off a nine-play, 80-yard drive that opened the scoring. The team moved the ball with ease, scoring on five of its next six drives. In a game that Purdue never trailed, sixth-year senior quarterback Aidan O’Connell threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the shootout with Nebraska’s Casey Thompson.

(Stanley Morgan holds record at 1,004).— Brian Christopherson (@Husker247BC) After a rocky start, the Boilermakers are hitting their stride and could be on their way to doing something special this season. [October 16, 2022] The Boilermakers have now won 4 straight since their second setback of the year at Syracuse. (Marlon Lucky holds record at 75). After a wild second half at Ross-Ade Stadium, Purdue outlasted Nebraska 43-37 to stay tied atop the Big Ten West standings with Illinois. If you’re a Nebraska fan, you saw some bite Saturday night. This Illinois team not only is 6-1 but has beaten Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin in three successive weeks. The inability to pass block and stop the run is a bigger problem. Purdue’s walk-on running back Devin Mockobee had 30 carries for 179 yards. Nebraska has also had issues protecting the quarterback. I expected this game to get away from Nebraska early.
