Phillies: It was huge for Philadelphia that Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins put together some good at-bats in Game 3, after coming in to Friday's game a combined 1-for-34 with 14 strikeouts in the postseason. Phillies: Noah Syndergaard (10-10, 3.94 ERA in the regular season) gets the call for the Phils over left-hander Bailey Falter, who had his worst start of the season on Sept. Braves: Knowing the Phillies will likely go to a bullpen game after getting a few innings out of Syndergaard, the Braves may not go with the same lineup they have used against right-handed starters during the past two games. He is 5-0 with a 0.73 ERA (two earned runs in 24 2/3 innings) in those games (four starts and one relief appearance). He posted a 5.47 ERA in five starts against the Philadelphia and surrendered six runs over just 4 2/3 innings against the club on Sept. Braves: Morton (9-6, 4.34 ERA in the regular season) has been great in elimination games, but he wasn’t great against the Phillies this year.

NLDS: Phillies Beat Braves to Take 2-1 Series Lead (The New York Times)

Philadelphia had been on the road for 14 games, and hadn't hosted a playoff game since 2011, but the team powered up to crush Atlanta, ...

According to John Smoltz, the Hall of Fame pitcher who starred for Atlanta and was broadcasting Friday’s game for FOX, the crowd at the old Veterans Stadium was loud and intimidating. He suggested it might be better to spend one more night in Atlanta and fly the next day — Thursday — and the players agreed. “It was really, really cool,” Harper said. “It was nice to get in my own bed for once.” After the Phillies dispatched the Cardinals, they split the first two games of their division series in Atlanta, and then arrived back in Philadelphia ready to reintroduce the local fans to playoff baseball. But during a three-hour rain delay in Atlanta on Wednesday, Dombrowski met with the players after consulting with the training and conditioning staffs. The Phillies won their next eight games, 14 of their next 16 and went 65-46 to end the season with a postseason berth. And for those two guys to be able to do that in the first playoff game at home, it’s unbelievable. Playing in front of a sea of red-clad fans cheering them on — the so-called Red October — the Phillies celebrated a breezy 9-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of their National League division series.

Braves vs. Phillies NLDS Game 3 final score: Phillies beat Braves, 9-1 (Battery Power)

Spencer Strider's postseason debut didn't quite go as planned, and the Braves' bats were stifled by Aaron Nola as the Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the NLDS.

Bohm then grounded into a double play to end the frame with the score at 9-1. He retired the side in order on just 10 pitches in the fifth, and a one-out walk turned into an inning-ending double play in the sixth. Nick Castellanos then singled, but Lee ultimately got a pair of pop-ups to end the string of hits and the inning with the score at 6-0. The walk to Marsh would prove costly, though, as an errant pickoff attempt resulted in the Philadelphia centerfielder standing at third with one out, and Bryson Stott won a nine-pitch at bat with an RBI double to right field. He would retire the Phillies in order with a pair of strikeouts in 14 pitches. Matt Olson then drew a one-out walk despite Nola getting up 0-2 in the count, and though Austin Riley beat out the throw on a would-be double play ball to Alec Bohm to put runners on the corners with two outs, Travis d’Arnaud stranded them with a groundout to Nola.

While the Braves are in the must-win situation they avoided last year, they aren’t in completely unfamiliar territory. The drop in velocity was understandable given that he had thrown off a mound just twice over the past 26 days, but he didn’t see it that way. They didn’t face an elimination game during any of the three rounds they played en route to winning last year’s World Series. 2022 NLDS Game 4: Braves' season ends with 8-3 loss to Phillies (Battery Power)

Atlanta's season ends in Game 4 of the NLDS with an 8-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Minter stayed in for the sixth and struck out Stott before allowing a single to Segura. Seranthony Dominguez took over in the ninth and struck out Dansby Swanson in what could be his final at-bat in a Braves uniform. Bohm grounded out to third to send the game to the sixth. McHugh then came up big as he got Realmuto to chase a breaking ball off the plate for the final out of the inning. The Braves then opted to intentionally walk Schwarber to load the bases and McHugh got Hoskins to fly out to shallow right for the second out. Contreras struck out for the second out, before Arcia singled to left. Dansby Swanson flew out for the first out, but Matt Olson connected on a solo home run to right to cut the lead to 4-2. McHugh came back out for the fourth and allowed a single to Stott to lead off the inning. After a brief discussion, he came out and Collin McHugh was summoned from the bullpen. The trainers came out to check on Morton and the Braves bullpen got busy, but he stayed in the game and struck out Bryson Stott for the first out.
