It took a while for Harrison Bader to make his Yankees debut. But he's making things happen in the postseason making the trade to acquire him look great.

In the bottom of the third inning, Bader hit a home run to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Another part of the Yankees’ draw to Bader is that he’s signed through 2023, so he wasn’t a two-month rental. It took a while for Harrison Bader to make his Yankees debut.

Harrison Bader delivered for the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS in the MLB Playoffs after a slow start to his tenure with his new team.

Bader certainly has value for the Yankees when he’s healthy, and he showed as much in Game 1. The biggest thing is, I’ll be ready to play when I’m ready to play and when I’m healthy. In the meantime, share this newsletter with your friends and family, and tell them to sign up at and Houston, they began the playoffs on the road in St. He kept trying to go a little bit more toward the corners, and the batters kept spoiling the ones that were on the black and taking the ones that just missed. Wheeler faced the Braves three times and allowed six earned runs in 20 innings (2.70 ERA). Wright faced the Phillies three times and allowed six earned runs in 19 innings (2.84 ERA). They fouled off nine pitches in the first and three more in the second. The dinger tied the game; it was his catch that saved it. Because of the new rules and blocking the plate, guys are able to hook-slide. He whiffed Andres Giménez on a nasty slider to escape the jam. The fielder’s choice set up a force at every base, which allowed the Yankees to throw out Rosario at the plate easily when Óscar González followed with a grounder to third. Presumably, some of you reading this newsletter have experienced the atmosphere of playoff baseball in person. It was also the first time I ever attended a postseason game.

John Sterling's Harrison Bader home run call was 100 years in the ... (Elite Sports NY)

Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling broke out in song for Harrison Bader's first postseason home run for a classic call.

His home run calls are legendary (whether you like them or not), and he’s likely been holding on to this one since New York traded for Bader in August. You just know the 84-year-old radio broadcaster has been holding onto that song for the majority of his life, just in case he needed it. [narrative about his postseason performance](https://elitesportsny.com/2022/10/12/this-is-yet-another-good-sign-from-yankees-alds-game-1-win/) in pinstripes, Gerrit Cole gave up a solo home run to Steven Kwan to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead. [CAESARS SPORTSBOOK](https://elitesportsny.com/link/caesars-new-york/) I mean, my goodness, that was a straight fastball pretty much right down Broadway. The Yankees ended up winning Game 1 of their ALDS matchup against the Cleveland Guardians handily by a score of 4-1.

Hometown Yankee Harrison Bader sharing postseason moments ... (New York Post)

A decade after starring for Horace Mann in The Bronx, Bader has a shot to win a World Series title a little more than 5 miles down the road.

“He hasn’t forgotten about us,” Louis said. [decade after starring for Horace Mann in The Bronx,](https://nypost.com/2022/09/23/how-yankees-harrison-bader-got-his-start-in-nyc-baseball/) Bader has a shot to win a World Series title a little more than 5 miles down the road. “We feel a part of it.” Louis believes his son could’ve grown into an Olympian, but he was worried about the dangers of the sport even before Harrison navigated his way through two avalanches. When Harrison was a boy, his father would return from his Verizon job in the evenings, grab a bucket of 30 baseballs and drive around in search of an open field in Eastchester, Yonkers or The Bronx. Sometimes Louis intentionally hit his son with pitches (below the shoulders, of course) to prepare him for higher-velocity impact in competition, and Harrison got angry. Harrison also loved his skiing trips out west with his dad; the kid was a better skier than baseball player and was fearless in his approach. Bader cited his parents — his mother, Janice, was a talented youth basketball player and Sports Illustrated marketing executive — among those who have helped him, in his words, “Channel that energy appropriately,” and remain as close to room temperature as he can. With his parents, sister Sasha and at least 100 other relatives and friends in the Stadium for the opening Division Series victory over Cleveland, Bader made a game-changing, run-saving defensive play in the top of the third when he cut off Jose Ramirez’s double. Harrison wore a helmet and his old man stood 35 feet away and threw to him, before dodging the lethal liners coming back his way. [crushing general manager Brian Cashman](https://nypost.com/2022/09/15/how-harrison-bader-has-ignored-jordan-montgomery-yankees-trade-noise/), Bader used the down time to watch and learn what it meant to be a big-time athlete in the big-city cauldron. The trade deadline was bearing down on everyone, and the retired tax attorney had felt something big could happen for his boy Harrison, who had returned to rehab a foot injury that was taking forever to heal.
