Sitting in a bare downtown one-bedroom, where she and her ankle monitor will be staying while she continues to fight her deportation, she told a reporter she’s working on launching her own podcast, writing a book, and potentially getting into criminal-justice reform. At least one thing Delvey said in that interview is true: She is certainly figuring out how to make that ankle bracelet look chic. [released](https://www.thecut.com/2022/10/anna-delvey-ice-detention-release.html) from immigration detention Friday afternoon. Six weeks after she was released early on good behavior, Delvey was arrested by ICE for overstaying her visa and has spent the past 18 months at a detention facility in Goshen, New York, fighting her deportation to Germany. In the five days since she moved from an ICE facility in upstate New York to an East Village walk-up, she has done an interview with the New York Times, posed for paparazzi while under house arrest, and debuted her take on ankle-monitor style. Now a judge has ruled that, even though he doesn’t believe she’s sorry for scamming wealthy New Yorkers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, she’s no longer a danger to the community. She added that she’s already hatching a plan for styling her ankle monitor. [Sorokin got out on a "merit release" in February 2021,](https://www.fox5ny.com/news/fake-german-heiress-released-from-prison) according to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision's inmate lookup website but ICE quickly took her into custody. Anna Sorkin was being held at the Orange County Correctional Facility in Goshen, NY since Immigration and Customs Enforcement picked her up on the lapsed visa. [Sign up for FOX 5 email newsletters](https://www.fox5ny.com/newsletters) New York was the first state to enact such a law following his capture. Sorokin came to New York City in 2013 and tried to get a huge loan to set up a high-end members-only club in Manhattan while using the name Anna Delevy. Her release to home confinement happened on Friday, Oct. In one instance, prosecutors said she forged financial records in an application for a $22 million loan to fund a private arts club. She was also sporting a black scarf with the initials "AD" on it, presumably as a nod to her former persona. A Manhattan jury found Sorokin guilty in April 2019 of grand larceny and other charges. Anna Sorokin: Never at a Loss for Words (The New York Times)

The fake European heiress has recently been released from detention and has kept busy doing a photo shoot while under house arrest on the Lower East Side.

[You can find all our puzzles here](https://www.nytimes.com/crosswords). “I think she sees this as a chance to make something of the last handful of years being behind bars.” A gust of wind kicked up suddenly, tossing bits of tattered papers, leaves and other debris in our direction. Sorokin’s love of fashion — and her disdain for anyone who dressed poorly, in her eyes — was a trope of the Netflix show. [eight victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary and an F.B.I. And as a reporter, she said, “that’s what you should be doing — no matter who you’re talking to.” It was Sorokin herself who told Palmer the day she would be released. “It was photoshopping bank statements and her sort of convincing banker men to fall at her feet.” While behind bars, she was the subject of a Netflix show, “Inventing Anna.” Last weekend she was released from detention on a separate charge of overstaying her visa. Despite the dash of Hollywood theatrics in the streaming version, the courtroom drama was anything but, Palmer said. Her editor, Jim McKinley, suggested that she look into the unusual case of Sorokin, a 20-something con artist who had been particularly successful at parting wealthy New Yorkers from their cash. I cannot get enough of Anna Sorokin, also known as Anna Delvey, the bogus European heiress who was convicted of swindling New York City’s elite, using the money they invested in a fake private club to furnish her lavish lifestyle.
