With Cook having scored his first rushing touchdown in Buffalo, when is better than now? Maybe it's time to give the rookie the reins in the Buffalo backfield. That changed when Bills rookie James Cook sliced through the middle of the offensive line, dashing his way to a 24-yard touchdown in Sunday's 38-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. After his performance against Pittsburgh, we say it's time for Singletary to make a little room for the rookie ...
While the Panthers took McCaffrey with a first-round pick at the 2017 NFL draft, McDermott's first year at the helm of the Bills, the key is Brandon Beane.

With the Carolina Panthers firing Matt Rhule on Monday, the team could be sellers before the deadline. Could the Denver Broncos trade for CMC?
The cons are obvious, and outweigh the pros. He’d deplete something of the Broncos’ that’ already depleted, and he comes with huge injury concerns. He’d be able to help keep the run game at the level it was at when Williams was on the field. Perhaps one of those pieces is a running back who is on a large contract and has had troubles staying healthy the past two seasons. No one in Broncos Country needs told why there are obvious connections between [Christian McCaffrey](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McCaCh01.htm) and the team. Could the
The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule. Rumors have persisted that Christian McCaffrey could be on the move. See the odds for his next team.
Add in QB Jalen Hurts’ ability to scramble and run at will, and it would make a phenomenal offense even more dangerous. The only undefeated team in football are the 5-and-0 Eagles. Last season the LA Rams went all-in for their pursuit of Von Miller (now a Buffalo Bill), and Odell Beckham Jr and it worked to perfection in leading them to Super Bowl LVI. He’s shown the flashes that made him such an effective dual-threat back, as he’s had four straight games with over 100 rushing and receiving yards. Having McCaffrey would aid a team that has the second worst points per game, and also he’d be playing for the franchise that his father Ed competed for from 1995-2003. Buffalo is also currently 14th in yards per game on the ground using a combination of Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and James Cook in the backfield.
According to Michael Balko Jr, The Bills have reached out to the Panthers to talk about the deal for running back, Christian McCaffrey.
So, the idea is to pair McCaffrey with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davies. The Bills are keen to end their Super Bowl drought. However, Carolina Panthers will look for a revival of fortunes as they meet the Rams next week. McCaffrey is one of the lone bright spots for the Panthers, who lost four out of five games they played this season. ADVERTISEMENT Carolina Panthers running back, Christian McCaffrey is now receiving lucrative offers from top teams for a potential trade.

The Bills have an issue in short-yardage situations and salting away the game with the run. For comparison sake, Devin Singletary jas a 12.5% broken tackle rate, 77.5% positive run rate, and earns 2.3 yards on average after contact, which is 53.8% of his yards. So you’re telling me the Bills could get McCaffrey for $700K and then either re-sign him at a team-friendly rate or move on in the off-season with only a $1M hit? They haven’t been good at it so far, but McCaffrey is more elusive than Singletary and would be a better fit behind an offensive line that isn’t elite at run blocking. Draft picks matter and the Bills have done well with their picks in the past, so we don’t want to just write this off. The prorated $1.035M deal means that the number of games McCaffrey hypothetically plays for the Bills determines the total. In 2021, he suffered a strained hamstring against the Texans and then sprained his ankle in Week 12 when a [McCaffrey’s injuries could have resulted from overuse.](https://thesportswave.net/the-case-of-christian-mccaffrey-injury-prone-or-over-worked/) That’s no proof that’s actually true, McCaffrey suffered his major injuries in instances where he was already well over twenty touches in that particular game or coming off a game of almost thirty touches. Notice how only one of those issues is a “soft tissue” type injury that would indicate a concern for re-injury. In fact, the Panthers reported that [they hadn’t been in contact with any team](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10051947-christian-mccaffrey-rumors-panthers-havent-had-trade-talks-with-bills-other-teams) about a potential McCaffrey trade. However, this doesn’t mean they WON’T be in trade talks, and this doesn’t mean Buffalo won’t be one of those teams. While that’s true, the idea that CMC is “always hurt” is driven by recent bias and fantasy football.
CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones claims that Carolina Panthers players like Christian McCaffrey could be traded following the firing of Matt Rhule.
[Writing in an article](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-insider-notes-matt-rhule-firing-opens-door-for-potential-panthers-trades-and-more-from-week-5/) in the wake of Rhule’s firing, Jones noted that McCaffrey, as well as D.J. Despite being a running back, with the NFL becoming more pass-oriented in recent seasons, being good at catching the ball out of the backfield and out wide is becoming more and more important for the position. With the team in the mood to make changes, that could also manifest itself with changes in personnel, as the Panthers might look to give the new coach, whether that be interim Steve Wilks or someone new in 2023, a chance to build the team in their own image.

The running back has a long history of injuries — playing just 10 games combined in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Through five games this season, McCaffrey has 512 total yards and three touchdowns. Buffalo’s general manager, Brandon Beane, was with the Panthers when they drafted McCaffrey eighth overall in 2017.

On a positive note, we still have attractive options on the horizons. The offense shouldn’t have to lean away from our unrelenting passing attack in order to justify tricky accounting. Perhaps the most important part of this discussion is whether or not we’d even want to put him out there. Cutting him in 2023 is possible, but considering the assets required for that move, this trade would be a long-term investment. This first, and most reasonable, assumption is that he’d fit into the offense. There are good reasons for the Buffalo Bills to pursue Christian McCaffrey.

Will the Panthers explore moving star running back Christian McCaffrey before the Nov. 1 NFL trade deadline? Here's the latest report from Carolina.
McCaffrey is signed through 2025, so there's no danger of him being able to leave as a free agent after this season. The situation could get even worse in the short term because the Panthers' next two opponents are the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams and [Tom Brady](https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/patriots/tom-brady)'s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There are plenty of teams with playoff aspirations that could use a running back of McCaffrey's caliber. Howe added that the Buffalo Bills "didn’t call the Panthers about McCaffrey on Monday, the sources said, refuting an earlier report." And what does the future hold for star running back Christian McCaffrey? He's played in all five games this season, though, racking up 388 rushing yards and two touchdowns, plus 26 receptions for 188 receiving yards and another touchdown.
