Even without Tyreek Hill, their passing offense has remained one of the most efficient and deadly in the league. The Chiefs have had a strong run defense this year and are only giving 3.3 yards per attempt, but the Raiders have to try anyway. They were reluctant to do so through the first three games of the season, but exploded last week for 212 yards on 38 attempts. Having noted this, short passes are the easiest throws to stock back up on, so it’s probably best to ride this slump out. These numbers suggest that Pacheco seems to have earned a strong role in the Chiefs ground game, but Jerick McKinnon is still Kansas City’s primary pass catching back. Davante Adams broke free wide open downfield and Carr hit him in stride for the walk-in touchdown.— Tashan Reed (@tashanreed) Butker sustained his sprained left ankle after slipping on the turf during a kickoff inside State Farm Stadium in the season opener. Matthew Wright, the Chiefs’ third kicker this season, missed a 41-yard field goal wide right to end the team’s second possession. That makes it all but impossible to notch a win. When opposing teams have scored 24 or more points against the Chiefs in the past five years, Kansas City has a 19-14 record. The Chiefs have an NFL best 53-16 record since quarterback Patrick Mahomes took over as the starter in the 2018 season. The Chiefs look to stay atop the AFC and the Raiders look to save their season with a major win.

Raiders vs Chiefs MNF: Controversial call on Chris Jones sets up ... (Silver and Black Pride)

Monday Night Football was marred with controversy as Chiefs' Chris Jones was flagged for roughing the passer on Derek Carr.

Granted, Patrick Mahomes and Kansas drove right down the field — aided by a facemask penalty — and brought the game back to within 10 with a field goal of their own. Carr went on to lead Las Vegas into scoring range and kicker Daniel Carlson stretched the team’s lead to 20-7 with a field goal before the half. However, the Raiders aren’t used to being the benefactors of a controversial call as they were on Monday Night Football tonight.

Key takeaways from first half of Chiefs vs. Raiders (Chiefs Wire)

Here are a few things we learned about the Kansas City Chiefs in the first half of their Week 5 tilt with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Chris Jones was called for roughing the passer while he actually possessed the football in a strip fumble. The call in the Chiefs-Raiders game was somehow worse. In the secondary, they’ve been struggling to locate the football. It took the team a long time to get settled in and they’ve been struggling to win the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, but somehow they’ve battled back to make this a 10-point game. All-in-all it feels like every bit of success they achieved in Week 4 went out the window in the first half of Week 5. As of nine minutes and 22 seconds to go in the second quarter, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has two carries for two yards and Isiah Pacheco has one carry for no yards.

2022 NFL season, Week 5: What We Learned from Chiefs' win over ... (NFL.com)

In an instant classic rife with drama, controversy and stupendous individual efforts, it was Mahomes and Co. who hung on for a 30-29 Chiefs win over the ...

[Derek Carr'](https://www.nfl.com/players/derek-carr/)s beautiful touchdown pass to Adams put the Raiders within one point of tying the game, but instead of taking the tie score via a [Daniel Carlson](https://www.nfl.com/players/daniel-carlson/)extra point and putting it on the defense to protect their chance to go win it, McDaniels went for two to try to take a one-point lead with plenty of time left for Mahomes and Co. The total team effort began with Mahomes and ended with the rest of his teammates, producing a resounding win that seemed unlikely before the break. Instead, they'll have to take 4-1 and feel good about it, especially after coming back to beat a Raiders team that punched them in the mouth early in this game. [Davante Adams](https://www.nfl.com/players/davante-adams/)on a first-half fourth-and-1 for a touchdown, but that same aggression cost Las Vegas a chance of at least surviving into overtime. Mahomes was under constant duress early in the game, but the Chiefs found a way to wake up offensively and put 10 points on the board before the break. Instead, Adams ran into [Hunter Renfrow](https://www.nfl.com/players/hunter-renfrow/), and Carr's heave landed in the abyss of the open field. [Matthew Wright](https://www.nfl.com/players/matthew-wright/)missed from 37 yards out. Despite being dominated at the point of attack for much of the first half, Mahomes used his magic to propel the Chiefs back into the game. He's a nearly unguardable red zone threat, and his ability to adjust on the fly -- running a drag that required him to weather a hit from [Denzel Perryman](https://www.nfl.com/players/denzel-perryman/), reverse course, catch a pass from [Patrick Mahomes](https://www.nfl.com/players/patrick-mahomes/)and outrun the remaining defenders -- produced one score that was essential to Kansas City's comeback efforts. [Tyreek Hill](https://www.nfl.com/players/tyreek-hill/)is gone, but Kelce remains in Kansas City -- and he's just as important as ever. [Travis Kelce](https://www.nfl.com/players/travis-kelce/)had a phenomenal game on Monday night, compiling a highlight reel of touchdowns fit for his future place in Canton. We've seen plenty of leads evaporate in the NFL this season, but it remains rare to see a team blow a 17-point lead without committing a single turnover.

It came after Kelce's final touchdown catch, when Kansas City failed on a 2-point try that left the score 30-23. The Raiders still had a chance when Davante Adams, who earlier had hauled in a 58-yard touchdown catch, added a 48-yarder with 4:29 to go. “There was anger just about how we had played up to that point,” said Mahomes, who threw four touchdown passes to tight end Travis Kelce.

Chiefs vs. Raiders score, takeaways: Travis Kelce explodes as ... (CBSSports.com)

Despite a hot start from Las Vegas, who scored 17 unanswered points to open the matchup, Kansas City finished on top. Kelce paved the way with a "Monday Night ...

87, in the second quarter, made the statement to the Raiders, and the crowd, to never count the Chiefs out and never get too comfortable with a lead. Heading into Week 6, the Texans (1-3-1) have been one of the worst teams in the league. The Raiders will get some rest after this Monday night game, but after their bye week they will face the Houston Texans on Oct. The second Kelce TD, a four-yard reception in the third quarter, was really when the game began to flip, and anyone who watches Chiefs football was likely predicting that KC would end up turning this one around and winning. Once they get that rhythm on offense, the Chiefs typically get it done and end up winning the game, which is exactly what happened here. Their defense stepped up, but the offense was unable to get into field goal position, turning it over on downs, with victory formation from the Chiefs left to end the game. The Raiders stopped the Chiefs in the red zone, something very difficult for teams to do, but erased that with their own mistake. With just under five minutes to go in the fourth, the Raiders decided they would "play to win the game," as Herm Edwards famously said, rather than take the tie towards the end of the game. The Raiders' aggressiveness slowed in the second half on defense and they had no answer for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and company. Meeting for the first time in the 2022 season, the Chiefs and Raiders combined for almost 750 total yards, going back and forth as Patrick Mahomes slung it to Travis Kelce and Derek Carr fed Davante Adams. You can't let Kelce in the end zone four times if you want to give yourself a good chance to win. The Chiefs excel when they are behind, taking the pressure and benefiting from it rather than collapsing underneath it.

Raiders fall short of finally beating AFC West nemesis (The Seattle Times)

The Las Vegas Raiders were oh-so-close to finally getting the best of the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

The loss kept the Raiders in last place in the AFC West, a game behind Denver and well behind the Chiefs, who are aiming for their seventh consecutive division title. “I want to apologize to him for that. “I shouldn’t have responded that way, but that’s the way I responded. But almost immediately the call went to a video review, and it clearly showed Adams bobbled the ball as he stepped on the white chalk. Josh Jacobs followed a career-best 144 yards rushing and two touchdowns in last week’s win over Denver by running for 154 and a score against the Chiefs. Frantically trying to rally his team in the final minute, Derek Carr threw a pretty pass down the sideline to Davante Adams, who already had hauled in touchdown catches of 58 and 48 yards.

Later, Carr made a brilliant throw to Adams, giving the Raiders their chance to go ahead on their failed 2-point try. The Raiders’ next chance to get on track is on Oct. They have too much talent to not get rolling, but only if they don’t let frustrations from the young season get to them. If the Raiders could have gotten in field goal range on the game’s last drive, it’s a near certainty Carlson would have nailed it and Las Vegas would have gone home with a win. Las Vegas still had momentum in the second quarter, having just scored a field goal, leaving the Chiefs only 17 seconds to operate before halftime. But spotted a 17-0 lead, the defense struggled to rush the passer and cover receivers, especially tight end Travis Kelce, who had four touchdown grabs. The Chiefs missed it, but DE Malcolm Koonce committed a rare holding penalty. Soon thereafter, Mahomes found Kelce in the end zone for six more points. They paved the way for Jacobs’ big game and gave Carr time to throw on most occasions. But judging from the last two weeks, all they needed was some balanced play calling to thrive. But on a 4th-and-1 play with seconds remaining, wide receivers Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow ran into each other and fell down as Carr threw in their direction, ending any comeback hopes. But nearly every time he turned to Jacobs, his running back responded.

Raiders' Week 5 review: Chiefs edition (Silver and Black Pride)

Despite officiating, execution remains Las Vegas' biggest Achilles heel in 30-29 loss to Kansas City.

He finished with four total tackles and three stops for loss as he was in the backfield a lot. But his Raiders just couldn’t execute as well as the Chiefs did to stymie the attempt. The Chiefs had trouble covering him but Las Vegas didn’t take advantage as much as it should’ve. We all thought it was a catch. “I’ve been around a lot of new regimes and I think the frustrating part is that it takes time for everyone to get on the same page,” Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said after the loss. That’s what we’ve done after we’ve won, that’s what we’ve done after we lost, and we’re going to continue to do that.” Got the ball back, throw one to Tae, thought it was a catch. However, the key players were all on board with the play — aggressive as it might be. That was a 15-yard toss from quarterback Derek Carr to Adams on 3rd-and-1 that would’ve given the Raiders new downs at the Chiefs’ 39-yard-line — and within kicker Daniel Carlson’s range. If it was a sprint, we lost the sprint. Officiating alone wasn’t the sole reason the Raiders gave up that kind of advantage. What no one knew, however, is it would be a pair of Raider wide receivers colliding to dash the Silver & Black’s upset win aspirations Monday night.

OK I'll say it, Josh McDaniels was right when he went for that 2-point conversion late in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in their Week 5 Monday ...

While giving up a 17-0 lead always deserves some criticism, the decision to go for two in the fourth quarter does not. For those who believe in Karma, you received a win once the Chiefs punted on the following drive. But unfortunately for them, Adams juggled a pass while heading out of bounds, there was questionable contact by Chiefs defensive backs on a fourth down play, and the Chiefs are now 4-1 and the Raiders have the inverse record. Then Mahomes’ Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit the following week in the AFC Championship Game to get to the Super Bowl. These are a step up from the QuietComfort 35 headphones in that it uses USB-C instead of micro-USB, have newly designed earpads, and their active noise canceling performs even better—especially in the mid-to-high range. A Chiefs field goal and now a Raiders field goal only ties.

[said of the season](https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/raiders-coach-mcdaniels-hopes-sluggish-075126674.html). In Week 2, they led by 20-0 at the half before losing to the Cardinals on a 59-yard fumble return in overtime. In Week 3, they rallied against the Titans only to lose by 2 after a 2-point conversion failed with 1:14 left. The Raiders had not played as well in the second half and were on the road against a strong team, making overtime less palatable. The New York Times Playoff Simulator gives it On the other hand, there was a lot of time left — indeed, both teams would still get possessions in the game. On their second drive Monday night, the Raiders went for it on fourth-and-1 at their own 42, and Carr completed a daring bomb to Davante Adams for a touchdown. In Week 1, they lost to the Chargers by 5 in part because Carr threw three interceptions. He again took the bold choice and went for 2. But Chris Jones of Kansas City, who made the sack and recovered the ball, was charged with roughing the passer on the tackle, which looked routine to most eyes. Rewarded for boldness earlier in the game, Las Vegas tried for a go-ahead 2-point conversion rather than a tie. “The quarterback is protected from being tackled with full body weight.”
