The crowd at ESPN’s “College GameDay” on the University of Kansas campus may have set a record for most signs. Quarterback Max Duggan completed a 53-yard pass to Quentin Johnston that moved the ball to the Kansas 46-yard line. It’s still early October, but a KU win on Saturday would be its sixth of the season. On a third down, KU quarterback Jalon Daniels was hit by TCU linebacker Jamoi Hodge on the sideline. The biggest play of that drive was a 52-yard completion to Tanaka Scott. It can also be streamed on the Fox Sports app. He didn’t return to the game. TCU took advantage with Duggan finding the end zone on a 3-yard run. “First of all, thank you for being here because it means to much to us,” Leipold said. After Jacob Borcila’s kick was wide left, the Jayhawks forced a three-and-out, and quarterback Jason Bean went to work again. That gave TCU a 31-24 lead after three quarters. Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston.

College football Week 6 predictions: Kansas vs. TCU and more ... (New York Post)

Aaron Judge's home run chase is over. Now, the best story in sports comes from the most unexpected corner imaginable — Kansas football.

Ole Miss’ celebration from last week — after a win over No. The Tigers should cruise to the ACC title after disposing of their two biggest threats. I may just watch the 2015 matchup instead and try to figure out how perhaps the most talented team of the playoff era blew back-to-back title chances against a backup quarterback at home. Brian Kelly’s record against top-10 teams (4-11) won’t be improved by a roster he hasn’t had time to shape. But the Red Raiders’ ninth-ranked passing attack is built to exploit a defense that has taken a significant step back from last season and is allowing more passing yards than all but three teams in the nation. Georgia has failed to cover five straight home games as a favorite, clinging to a 10-point fourth quarter lead against Kent State and trailing lowly Missouri for 56 minutes. The past two weeks have been a reminder of how tough it is to stay on top, especially when you are defending a championship instead of chasing one. The 19th-ranked Jayhawks (5-0) are in the polls for the first time in 13 years — ending the longest drought among Power Five conference teams — and are tied atop the Big 12 standings. Texas hasn’t been favored in the Red River Shootout since 2009. The Wolverines’ looming game against Penn State on Oct. But Leipold, a Wisconsin native who once led Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater to six national titles, may not be in Lawrence much longer. Led by quarterback Jalon Daniels and an offense averaging 38 points per game, the Jayhawks pulled off upsets at West Virginia and Houston, before holding Iowa State to 11 points in a victory last week.

College football media sadly laments end of Kansas' perfect season (FanSided)

The Kansas Jayhawks were ranked for the first time this season, but they lost 38-31 to the TCU Horned Frogs. College football media shared their thoughts.

They had the chance to further show that they deserve to be recognized as one of the top teams in the country, as they took on the No. Even though Kansas lost, they have turned a lot of heads. Perhaps the Horned Frogs’ biggest star of the game was Johnston, who caught 14 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, he helped Kansas tie things up when TCU took multiple leads, including a 29-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Skinner with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. He exited the game, and did not return for the second half. [the location for ESPN’s College GameDay in Week 6](https://fansided.com/2022/10/08/kansas-tcu-college-gameday-signs-week-6/).

Four observations from KU football's 38-31 loss to TCU (247Sports)

It was a slow start for the Jayhawks, as they fell behind by two scores in the first quarter for the third time this season. KU was able to respond before the ...

The Horned Frogs had the most 30-yard gains on the ground of any team and the second-most 30-yard gains of any team in the FBS. [Jacob Borcila](//247sports.com/Player/Jacob-Borcila-46080995) made a 40-yard attempt in the first half for KU’s only points. Compare that to KU’s 105 rushing yards (5.8 yards per carry) mark in the first half and it's not a huge dropoff. Well, Bean was thrown into the fire on Saturday and was a driving force of KU scoring 28 second-half points after only managing three in the first half. But the Horned Frogs were able to score in the blink of an eye and those quick scores put a lot of pressure on the KU offense to score. On second and nine from the KU 31, KU ran an option to the outside with Bean and Thomas. [Jason Bean](//247sports.com/Player/Jason-Bean-93779) led KU offensively in the second half after [Jalon Daniels](//247sports.com/Player/Jalon-Daniels-46081530) left with an injury. Through the air, Bean was able to showcase his arm. With Daniels out for the second half, [Jason Bean](//247sports.com/Player/Jason-Bean-93779) stepped in. Between Bean, Devin Neal and the rest of the running backs KU totaled 84 yards (4.2 yards per carry) in the second half. In the end, KU fumbled the ball four times, recovering two of them. On the third drive of the game, KU gained double-digit yards on back-to-back plays, pushing the team over midfield.

With the eyes of college football on a pair of unexpected unbeatens, the wide receiver put up a huge effort against the Jayhawks.

Coming into the 2022 season, TCU had a projected win total of 6.5 by the oddsmakers, hinting that a postseason berth would be quite an achievement for this team. As a lanky 6’4” wideout, TCU put Johnston in some interesting positions and found different ways to just get him the ball. “They were pretty much manned up on [Quentin] and the safeties were low. “We kinda made it a priority to target him and look at him,” said Duggan. He had a couple games where he probably wasn’t healthy,” Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes said of his team’s leading receiver after the game. To say there was a concerted effort to get Johnson the ball Saturday would be an understatement.

They’re going to come through whenever we need them and they believe in the system and they’re going to make it all work.” Handling the aftermath of this defeat against TCU will be critical to the Jayhawks having a chance, and just showing they had a chance isn’t what they’re striving for. Leipold told his team that after the game, after a contest where it had five penalties to TCU’s one, gave the Horned Frogs advantageous field position too often, left too many opportunities for points on the field and more. “We’ve just got to clean some things up, and if we don’t it can be a tough second half of the season. He would have tried to have that be the way Kansas remained undefeated and avoided a Big 12 Conference loss at home against TCU. Three Takeaways: Despite the loss, Kansas is legitimately good. (Sports Illustrated)

The Kansas Jayhawks didn't get the result they wanted, but they showed against the TCU Horned Frogs that they ARE a good team.

A fumble by Jalon Daniels just before going into the end zone, giving TCU the ball with a lot of momentum. And the offense routinely put them in very difficult positions. And there were definitely plenty of times where TCU made the defense look a bit silly. But this game went into the half with the Jayhawks only down 10-3. In a matchup with the undefeated [TCU Horned Frogs](https://www.si.com/college/college-football/team/kansas-jayhawks), we saw two different games: a low scoring defensive battle in the first half, and a couple of high-flying offenses in the second half. Sure, Jason Bean looked good in limited time against Tennessee Tech, but with the struggles we saw last week, there didn't appear to be any thought at all to bringing him in to replace Jalon Daniels during that game.
