Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston.

Ole Miss’ celebration from last week — after a win over No. The Tigers should cruise to the ACC title after disposing of their two biggest threats. I may just watch the 2015 matchup instead and try to figure out how perhaps the most talented team of the playoff era blew back-to-back title chances against a backup quarterback at home. Brian Kelly’s record against top-10 teams (4-11) won’t be improved by a roster he hasn’t had time to shape. But the Red Raiders’ ninth-ranked passing attack is built to exploit a defense that has taken a significant step back from last season and is allowing more passing yards than all but three teams in the nation. Georgia has failed to cover five straight home games as a favorite, clinging to a 10-point fourth quarter lead against Kent State and trailing lowly Missouri for 56 minutes. The past two weeks have been a reminder of how tough it is to stay on top, especially when you are defending a championship instead of chasing one. The 19th-ranked Jayhawks (5-0) are in the polls for the first time in 13 years — ending the longest drought among Power Five conference teams — and are tied atop the Big 12 standings. Texas hasn’t been favored in the Red River Shootout since 2009. The Wolverines’ looming game against Penn State on Oct. A home game against Texas wraps up the home slate for 2022 and the regular season will come to a close on the road against Kansas State. But KU now faces its first setback of the season. But some places — many places — can have all the time in the world and never create anything close to Saturday, Oct. For years, this campus has looked to be one of those places and yet there we were on Saturday. And there’s still a lot of work to be done to make this season everything it seems like it will be. And it was a Kansas team that deserves to remain in the Top 25, as much for what they did on Saturday as what they’ve done all season long. There’s time to work on all of that. Perhaps the Horned Frogs’ biggest star of the game was Johnston, who caught 14 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. [Jacob Borcila](//247sports.com/Player/Jacob-Borcila-46080995) made a 40-yard attempt in the first half for KU’s only points. Compare that to KU’s 105 rushing yards (5.8 yards per carry) mark in the first half and it's not a huge dropoff. Well, Bean was thrown into the fire on Saturday and was a driving force of KU scoring 28 second-half points after only managing three in the first half. But the Horned Frogs were able to score in the blink of an eye and those quick scores put a lot of pressure on the KU offense to score. The program might be getting paid to play at BYU, but it will be looking for more than just money when it comes back home to Carbondale. From Power Five teams all the way down to the lowest FCS schools, Southern Illinois has shown it can compete with anyone in the country on its best day. While none of those games ended in SIU’s favor, the Salukis played close in a few of them. “We’re excited about getting the win over a really good Southern Illinois team,” he said after the game. With the eyes of college football on a pair of unexpected unbeatens, the wide receiver put up a huge effort against the Jayhawks.
Coming into the 2022 season, TCU had a projected win total of 6.5 by the oddsmakers, hinting that a postseason berth would be quite an achievement for this team. As a lanky 6’4” wideout, TCU put Johnston in some interesting positions and found different ways to just get him the ball. “They were pretty much manned up on [Quentin] and the safeties were low. “We kinda made it a priority to target him and look at him,” said Duggan. He had a couple games where he probably wasn’t healthy,” Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes said of his team’s leading receiver after the game. To say there was a concerted effort to get Johnson the ball Saturday would be an understatement.

They’re going to come through whenever we need them and they believe in the system and they’re going to make it all work.” Handling the aftermath of this defeat against TCU will be critical to the Jayhawks having a chance, and just showing they had a chance isn’t what they’re striving for. Leipold told his team that after the game, after a contest where it had five penalties to TCU’s one, gave the Horned Frogs advantageous field position too often, left too many opportunities for points on the field and more. “We’ve just got to clean some things up, and if we don’t it can be a tough second half of the season. He would have tried to have that be the way Kansas remained undefeated and avoided a Big 12 Conference loss at home against TCU. Had Kansas football been able to score a touchdown as the seconds ticked down in the fourth quarter, that’s what Leipold said he would have done.
The beauty of college football will be on full display in Week 6 as some surprisingly interesting games have bubbled up.

The Kansas Jayhawks didn't get the result they wanted, but they showed against the TCU Horned Frogs that they ARE a good team.
A fumble by Jalon Daniels just before going into the end zone, giving TCU the ball with a lot of momentum. And the offense routinely put them in very difficult positions. And there were definitely plenty of times where TCU made the defense look a bit silly. But this game went into the half with the Jayhawks only down 10-3. In a matchup with the undefeated [TCU Horned Frogs](https://www.si.com/college/college-football/team/kansas-jayhawks), we saw two different games: a low scoring defensive battle in the first half, and a couple of high-flying offenses in the second half. Sure, Jason Bean looked good in limited time against Tennessee Tech, but with the struggles we saw last week, there didn't appear to be any thought at all to bringing him in to replace Jalon Daniels during that game.
