Here's Indiana's Week 6 depth chart, as well as a few injury notes. - INDIANA WEEK 6 DEPTH CHART, INJURY NOTES: Indiana (3-2) plays No. Indicative of any Jim Harbaugh offense is a consistent running game, powered by and experienced offensive line that can control the pace. Indiana is still working to find its best five lineman after a season-ending injury to veteran right tackle, Matthew Bedford. Along with a new quarterback, Indiana completely revamped its running back and wide receiver rooms, and it was always going to take time to gel. Indiana still hasn't scored a first quarter touchdown, and they've trailed at halftime in four of five games. Michigan is a 22.5-point favorite in this matchup, following a 13-point win at Iowa in a game where the outcome was never really in question. Blake Corum stepped in for 1,300-yard rusher Hassan Haskins, and he's been one of the nation's top running backs in 2022. For a half, IU football hung tough. Then No. 4 Michigan flexed ... (The Indianapolis Star)

Indiana was tied with No. 4 Michigan at halftime but didn't score again in a 31-10 loss.

IU kept it close in the first half in large part because it contained a Michigan running attack that was one of the most powerful in the country going into the game. Tailback Blake Corum broke off a 50-yard run on his first carry and then scored from one yard out on the next play, but the Hoosiers put most of their resources and defenders into stopping the run and Michigan didn't get much done with it the rest of the first half. The Wolverines seemed on the ropes on the road with the score tied 10-10 at the break, but Michigan took control in the third quarter, outgaining the Hoosiers 129-41 in the period, including an 11-play, 98-yard drive on its first possession of the half. Indiana punted on each of its first three drives after halftime, and even though the Hoosiers got what seemed like a tide-turning interception from safety Devon Matthews, their drive stalled in their own territory on that drive. The Hoosiers finished with a net 19 yards on 25 carries. The Wolverines maintained the lead the rest of the way and piled on two more touchdowns afterward.

Three Things: Indiana football falters, falls to Michigan 31-10 (The Crimson Quarry)

All that being said, here's three things I noticed about this game. Michigan's coaching is very, very good. NCAA Football: Michigan at Indiana ...

The offensive line continues to be a problem for Indiana and that won’t change anytime soon. Jones is arguably the team’s best player, and now he’ll be out for multiple weeks with a foot injury, per IU sports information. To make matters worse, Connor Bazelak said they’d seen more exotic looks from the Wolverines in film. The results speak for themselves. Michigan wore out the Hoosiers’ defense in the time of possession battle and capitalized with three touchdowns to put the game away. Jim Harbaugh has won everywhere he’s been, and he has some great minds around him.

Michigan football sloppy, outlasts overmatched Indiana 31-10 (Detroit Free Press)

Michigan turned it over in the red zone, had a field goal blocked and had nearly 100 penalty yards. Still, it outlasted Indiana 31-10.

After two incompletions, Bazelak was dropped by Derrick Moore for a sack, the defense's sixth of the game. Turner made a big hit on what would've been a first-down catch over the middle on Indiana's third drive of the half. Michigan put together its first nonscripted touchdown drive of the day with 9:47 to play on a Schoonmaker catch and dive into the end zone. Junior Colson came up with a big sack on Indiana's opening drive of the second half to stop it. "I didn't see a block in the back," Harbaugh said. "Coach (and co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale) was coaching them hard, a lot of coaching going on, but I felt like the pass rush really started getting home." Jaylin Lucas started the drive with a 39-yard rush up the middle. The Wolverines would manage just a field goal over the remaining 27 minutes in the first two quarters. Michigan's offense did the same thing in the second half with a fast start. "I just saw a lot of red," Corum joked after the game. He ran the ball in on the next play to put Michigan up, 7-0, less than three minutes into the game. On a run designed to the left, Corum was surrounded by Hoosiers when he planted his left foot in the ground and cut up field.

IU football going nowhere fast because its offensive line can't clear a ... (The Indianapolis Star)

The Hoosiers' offensive line allowed Connor Bazelak to be sacked seven times and hit much more. The unit is simply 'not getting the job done.'

Not getting the job done there, and (we’ve) got to look that the really hard.” The Hoosiers have zero second-half points in their past two games, and seven fourth-quarter points in their past three. So, we return to the fundamental point: IU can’t effectively block what it wants to run often enough to call it offense. Across IU’s past three games, the Hoosiers have allowed 15 sacks and 22 quarterback hurries and, again, that second statistic feels generous. I don’t think they brought a bunch of exotic pressures, and some of the stuff we had seen on film. “As much as people want to talk down on them, they’re working hard every single day, just like the rest of the team, giving their all. It would be tolerable if this were just a bad day against a good team. Across three drives and 12 plays in the final 15 minutes, IU lost 12 yards. Bazelak actually started well Saturday, completing 11 of his first 15 passes and helping put together a series of promising (if not always productive) drives. Somehow, that was the upshot — in a game that saw them tied with a top-five team at half, the Hoosiers’ total offensive production in the fourth quarter finished in the red. We’re not getting the job done there.” “We’ve got to protect.

Indiana football's offensive line continues to hold this team back (The Daily Hoosier)

During the offseason, Indiana football head coach Tom Allen said that he had conversations with offensive line coach Darren Hiller about what he wanted to ...

“We’ve got to be able to run the ball more, and in the second half, they were covering us down more on that.” “We’re a team at the end of the day. In the first half, Indiana relied on short, quick passes, notably to running backs Josh Henderson and Jaylin Lucas, to pick up chunk yardage and move the ball down the field. In the second half, the Hoosiers were held to just 29 yards and zero points. After the game he vowed to look “really hard” at the group and what is causing them to be so ineffective. On the ensuing third down, he was sacked for a loss of nine yards.

"Mike had a medical emergency during the game, he's in stable condition and he's going to stay overnight here in Bloomington for continued observation," Harbaugh told reporters after the game. Video from the TV broadcast showed U-M running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards visibly upset on the sideline, crying while Michigan staffers consoled them. Combined with a few other issues, such as team health, missed tackles and a still-absent run game, it makes it difficult to see how Indiana could’ve won today or how it will do so in the future. Looking at the game as a whole, there are a lot of positives for Indiana to take from it. It’s truly impressive the game stayed as close as it did for as long as it did, especially considering the caliber of this Michigan team. Indiana totaled 29 yards in the half, including negative 12 yards in the fourth quarter. The Hoosiers struggled to move the ball, especially in the second half, showing flashbacks of Indiana’s 2021 team. But it’s hard to gain yards and score when no one blocks the defense.

Michigan football calls shenanigans on bad ref calls vs. Indiana (WolverinesWire)

After being the least penalized team in the country, Michigan football had some unexpected penalties. Not all appeared to be legitimate.

They don’t have to like it, but with a 31-10 win, the Wolverines sometimes just have to grin and bear it. McCarthy acknowledged that sometimes, that’s just the way the game goes. “I could tell with what the referee saw, but I mean, it was one of those — wipe the brow. But that wasn’t the only call that went Indiana’s way. I mean, I think he’s kind of equating it to some kind of throat slash, but it certainly wasn’t and as I said, that was called really tight on that one. “I guess the ref thought I slashed my throat,” Harrell said.
