Jay Halstead is gone, and the actor who portrays him, Jesse Lee Soffer, has commented on how much he appreciates the PD fans.

On the bright side, Halstead wasn’t killed onscreen, and he assured Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) that he will be back in eight months. Soffer, who had previously issued a statement confirming his exit, thanked fans for all of their support and adoration throughout the years. Halstead is gone, and it was a lot tougher to watch than we thought.

While it’s great that it keeps the door open for Jesse Lee Soffer to return to the series in the future, the writing doesn’t make a lot of sense. During the case, Halstead finds himself in a tough spot. It was all connected to the case. How did Jay end up leaving the team in the episode? It was hard to see why Halstead would decide to quit his job and his wife, so it seemed like death was the only option. Why did Halstead leave Intelligence?
