Mailbag: Discussing Mississippi State football's Nathaniel Watson, Sawyer Robertson and the likelihood of 11 wins for Mike Leach.
If MSU plays a clean game it could win. If MSU stays out of its own way, it could win those. The Texas native is a four-star prospect who MSU fans anticipate taking over for Rogers down the road. MSU has games against Alabama and Georgia ahead. Perhaps Mike Leach and his staff would, but it’s unlikely they win the case. Purvis impressed in an increased role with Watson and fellow linebacker DeShawn Page out.
Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach had praise for his team but also noted potential areas for improvement following its big victory over Texas A&M on ...
A great legendary team on and off the field." ML: "I debated whether I needed to do a press conference on that. ML: "I think his O line and receivers and running backs have improved. That was a little different than what we saw on film." And I value your opinion." ML: "It’s pretty important. Coming down the stretch we have to do more of that." The toughest thing is to do your job over and over so that things come your way. The other thing Forbes did was go down and get several blocks on guys trying to get to D Cam." ML: :"I thought it was gigantic. ML: "I thought Justin had a good game for a debut, as far as playing that many snaps. ML: "I thought they played good.
The 2022 Mississippi State football team handled the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday, 42-24. Here are my early "next morning" thoughts concerning the Bulldogs.
Mike Leach is working with the most talent he’s ever had on the depth chart, and he will be able to find the endzone more and more because of the running game. Every week Rogers gets better and better at finding the guy that’s open. Will Rogers III can toss the football. Look, I know Texas A&M’s offense is not hitting on all cylinders at this point in the season, but the Mississippi State defense was playing to the ball on Saturday afternoon vs. Also known as not letting the sticker on the helmet adjust how the Bulldogs play football that day. These guys can play with anyone in the country as long as their confident they can beat the guy they line up against.
Here's what Fisher said after the Aggies' SEC West loss to the Bulldogs. Opening statement (continued). "Had a great drive the first part of the ...
"Looking at the game, we didn't well enough in I didn't think all three phases. We had critical errors in all three phases, starting with a couple red zone turnovers for us on turnovers." Texas A&M turned it over four times, gave up nearly 500 yards of total offense and went 2-for-9 on third down to fall to 3-2 overall.
The Bulldogs forced A&M into four turnovers, including three inside the red zone, and took advantage in a 42-24 victory on Saturday.
Jimbo Fisher’s offense has taken a lot of the criticism early, and Saturday is likely to spark more as the Aggies struggled again. After consecutive wins including a victory over the ranked Aggies, MSU is once again a team to watch in a crowded SEC West. Fellow cornerback Richardson had nine tackles to lead MSU and got his touchdown on the blocked kick. The win for Leach moved him to 9-4 lifetime over the Aggies between Texas Tech and MSU. The offense had just got a turnover and we had to pick them up and we did that. Early on we played too close to the vest and as we opened up, we had more success,” MSU coach Mike Leach said. “Mississippi State played a good football game and is deserving to win,” A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said. We had opportunities to make it, but we didn’t get off the field on defense, we didn’t hit those red zone chances on offense and had the blocked kick. The biggest thing is doing your job and I thought we were.” The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1) had another efficient day offensively with 473 yards, 329 of those from Rogers on 31-of-45 passing with three touchdowns. Leading 14-0 just before halftime, the Bulldogs' defense came through again as Nathaniel Watson forced Aggies quarterback Max Johnson to fumble in the red zone. Mississippi State’s defense was also there to deny the Aggies at almost every turn.
Rebuilding in Year 5? Really? Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies are in trouble without a huge upset next week.
Another loss next week that moves Texas A&M to 3-3 should be the final clue in Fisher’s plans for the future of the program. The signs become clearer with every game this season that the 2022 class could very well be Fisher’s last stand at Texas A&M. The Aggies are 3-2 and will no doubt be heavy underdogs in Tuscaloosa next week, with the very real prospect of falling to .500 (3-3) by this time next Saturday. In Fisher’s 5th season as head coach at Texas A&M, this should not be a problem; and yet it is, a big one. What should his plans be for the future of the program after being totally outclassed by Mississippi State in the Aggies’ 1st true road game of the season? Where is the production going to come from in his absence?
Texas A&M's offense couldn't get rolling, the defense couldn't get stops and the mistakes piled on in a 42-24 loss to Mississippi State in Starkville.
We had chances to make plays multiple times in the game, and we have to do it.. “We have a guy who takes a turn, he takes a turn, we have to coach them better and make sure they’re in that position and do it. We have to go back to work. The Aggies have to get better by Saturday. “We just have to go back to work,” Demani Richardson, Senior Defensive back said. I don’t question our passion we have that on this team.

But on Saturday afternoon at Davis Wade Stadium, Mississippi State was a better team than the 17th-ranked Aggies. And it wasn't close. The Bulldogs were better ...
The Bulldogs led 21-3 and remained in charge the rest of the way. And State had little trouble against the A&M defense on the ground. Most of A&M’s scoring came after the outcome was well in hand. And State had much the better defense. It was the 4th times in the past 5 meetings that State won when A&M came in with top-25 credentials. They took the ball away 4 times. The Aggies opened the season by shutting out Sam Houston State. The Bulldogs passing game performed as it usually does. And, lo and behold, even the State special teams were, well, special. It generally was considered a contender for the SEC West title when the season began. In some quarters it was seen as a dark-horse national-championship contender. They were better on special teams.

Nothing has been decided about this year's State team yet and there's a long road ahead, but the Bulldogs have shown some fight the last two weeks.
