Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Commanders live online: Diggs ... (AS English)

The wide receiver duo of Gallup and Lamb have made the Cowboys' two touchdowns against the Commanders to take a bigger lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Cowboys get the ball on offense to start. Maher made the 53-yard attempt and the Cowboys are up with 11:34 left in the first. Rush gets SACKED on 3rd down by Allen, brings them to 4th and 9. Maher didn't let down, making the 45-yarder and giving Dallas a 6-point lead to start the 2nd quarter. Brings Commanders to the Dallas 17 They take back the lead on a Rush 9-yard pass to Gallup in the end zone. It was another battle of the defenses today as the Commanders held Dallas to field goals four times and the Cowboys held the Commanders to just one touchdown and one field goal. And the Commanders go 3 and out. Commanders end up with a loss of 1 and are at 3rd and 27. Rush passes 30 yards and it is CAUGHT in the end zone by CeeDee Lamb! Cowboys don't get far before they get a Holding penalty on Schultz and are held to 3rd and 13. The Cowboys will take over at the Commanders 44.

One of those reinforcements is expected to arrive on Sunday as it seems that wide receiver Michael Gallup will make his season debut against Washington. The Cowboys need to strike first and put the pressure on a Washington team that isn’t built to overcome large deficits. If Washington is to have a chance in this one, they need Rush to make some mistakes that backup quarterbacks sometimes do. Running back Antonio Gibson has had success against Dallas in the past, but he is struggling to get going this season. If the Commanders want to keep the pressure off their quarterback, they are going to need to have success running the ball. Now, they’ll face a Washington team that surrenders 5.4 yards per rushing attempt, fourth-worst in the league. The table is set for Rush to string together yet another quality performance, but how long can these good vibes last? The Dallas defense needs to keep the sack-fest going on Sunday. Linebackers Leighton Vander Esch and Anthony Barr have done a good job against the run and backup safety Donovan Wilson has filled in extremely well in Jayron Kearse’s absence. Sometimes it's because of an offensive line breakdown and sometimes it’s because he holds the ball too long. That lasted one season and now he’s with the Commanders. We’re not going to lie, having Wentz back in the division brings about all kinds of feels to Cowboys fans. Dallas is looking to get their eighth straight win over a divisional opponent before the schedule gets a little tougher.

Cowboys vs. Commanders score: Cooper Rush wins third game in a ... (CBSSports.com)

The Cowboys are now one of the hottest teams in the NFL with Cooper Rush as their starting quarterback, winners of three consecutive games, ...

The fluidity and ease of Lamb's cut upfield after gliding off the line of scrimmage are the natural qualities that make it easy to project the 23-year-old as their long-term, top wide receiver. Dallas took a 12-7 lead into the break, and Washington never got closer than five points throughout the rest of the game. Only the most diehard of Cowboys fans could have predicted this team would win every game Prescott has missed this season with a fractured thumb. However, an illegal contact penalty wiped away the turnover after St-Juste gave Brown a slight hug at the beginning of the play before the takeaway. The quarterback sprinted toward the right sideline, and Gallup remained in line with Rush across the back line of the end zone, hauling in Rush's laser through the Commanders secondary to take a 12-7 lead into the break. He got Gallup, playing in his first game since Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals last season, involved early by targeting the pass catcher on the first Dallas pass play of the game. Rush hit Lamb for a touchdown for the second straight game, this week on a wide-open toss for 30 yards after needing to place the ball perfectly in the back corner of the end zone on "Monday Night Football" against the Giants. Rush became the first quarterback in franchise history to win each of his first four career starts after completing 15 of 27 passes for 223 passing yards and two touchdowns. Even though the Cowboys defense pressured Wentz on just 17.8% of his dropbacks and recorded only two sacks as a team, the Cowboys secondary was glued to the Commanders pass catchers all afternoon, making Wentz work hard on every throw. This game started slowly with five punts on the contest's first seven drives, but after the Cowboys took a 6-0 lead following Brett Maher's second of a career-high four made field goals, Carson Wentz (25 of 42, 170 passing yards, one passing touchdowns, and two interceptions), commanded the Washington offense down the field. The Commanders have now lost three in a row after their Week 1 home win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cornerback Trevon Diggs (three passes defended and one interception), chipped in as well on the defensive side.

Game Recap: Defense Dominates in 25-10 Win (DallasCowboys.com)

Behind a smothering defense that was again outstanding, the Cowboys make it three straight victories with a 25-10 win over the rival Commanders.

The second half began as a defensive battle with neither side able to get much going offensively in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Washington continued to keep it close, though, as Wentz and company were able to get down to the Cowboys' 17-yard line. The pair then capped off the drive with a 9-yard touchdown connection, Rush rolling to his right to avoid pressure before finding Gallup streaking across the back of the end zone. Given a second chance, the Cowboys stayed on the move. On their third drive, the Cowboys again moved into enemy territory, thanks to back-to-back Rush completions to Lamb for 23 and 16 yards. Rush became the first Dallas quarterback in history to win his first four starts by completing 15 of 27 pass attempts for 223 yards and two touchdowns for an impressive 107.5 passer rating.

Backup QB Cooper Rush has officially made Dallas Cowboys history by getting his fourth win as a starter against the Washington Commanders in Week 4.

It’s unlikely he will get to stay a low-paid backup in the near future. This is his third win in a row this season, which has been added to his impressive victory against the Minnesota Vikings from last season. Rush entered this league as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan in 2017 and has had a long ride with the Cowboys ever since. Could the Joneses open their wallets to keep him around? DOOMSDAY: Cowboys' defense compares favorably to dominant ... (Times Record News)

Cooper Rush is getting plenty of deserved headlines, but it's the Dallas defense that is carrying the load.

Michael Gallup returned to the lineup on Sunday, and his availability immediately impacted the play of CeeDee Lamb. It would also be nice to see the offense continue to limit penalties. That’s because only one quarterback on the Cowboys roster is undefeated as a starter, and his name is Cooper Rush. The Cowboys have held their first four opponents to under 200 net passing yards, which has not happened in Dallas since 1977. The Cowboys have held their four 2022 opponents to 19 points or less for the first time since 1973. Cowboys’ fans have taken some criticism in the past for being silent at home games since the move to AT&T Stadium.

Dallas Cowboys get third win in a row by beating Commanders 25-10 (Blogging The Boys)

It featured a successful return for Michael Gallup, a largely ineffective running game, and not one, but two great defensive plays by Trevon Diggs. But the game ...

His target was Terry McLaurin, who had Diggs covering him, and Diggs got a hand on the ball to give it back to his offense. It was a perfect call, as Antonio Gibson was met by a group of defenders for no gain and the Cowboys got the ball back on a punt. That pushed the margin to 12 points with most of the fourth quarter left, but it was the most breathing space Dallas had managed all game. But the pass rush showed up at that point, with Dante Fowler sacking Wentz on third down to set up a fourth and 15. He would have two other huge pass breakups, including the one on fourth down that allowed Dallas to run much of the clock off at the end of the game. It was especially disappointing as it came after the longest play of the day for the Cowboys, a 45-yard strike to Noah Brown that had them already in the red zone. Arguably it was penalties that allowed the Cowboys to take a lead and kept Washington from getting on track offensively. Not only did it waste a beautiful throw, it also wasted the best starting field position of the game for the Cowboys. Rush welcomed Michael Gallup back to the lineup with a touchdown throw to the back of the end zone to cap it off. One thing that didn’t happen was the sack-fest so many expected for the Cowboys. That set up the fourth Brett Maher field goal of the game and, while there was still almost four minutes left to play, the 15-point margin effectively sealed things. There were many who thought the Cowboys would roll over the Commanders, which is a big warning sign for a trap game.

Cowboys Defense Corrals Commanders: Top 10 Whitty Observations (Sports Illustrated)

Dallas continued its impressive defense this season, keeping another opponent under 20 points in a dominating 25-10 victory at AT&T Stadium.

In the last three meetings, regardless of name, the Cowboys are 3-0 against Washington by a combined 108-44. But in a bottom-line league where results are separated by thin lines, he's 3-0 this season and now the only quarterback in Cowboys history to start his career 4-0. He was a bit lucky, with two interceptions negated by Washington penalties and a deflected pass in the end zone somehow falling harmlessly at the feet of a couple Commanders' defenders. On a personal note, I have a friend in Philadelphia who - amidst the frenzy of Wentz' MVP-caliber season in 2017 - named his newborn son "Carson." PASSING FANCY - In a league geared toward offense and where the standard passing threshold is 300 yards, the Cowboys' defense has yet to allow a quarterback to throw for even 215. They've won three in a row against Washington, and eight consecutive and 14 of 16 at home against the division. This seems like a new "unwritten rule" in the NFL, giving offenses "a beat" after the clock expires. [the Cowboys last won a championship in 1995; Washington in 1991](https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/dallas-cowboys-washington-commanders-rivalry-dak-prescott-cooper-rush-preview). EAST BEAST - In the last 10 years the Cowboys are now 43-19 against the NFC East for a winning percentage just under 70. Or, with a three-game losing streak and already in last place in the NFC East, did they merely dress for a funeral? [12, 3, 3 and 7](https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/dallas-cowboys-washington-commanders-halftime-cooper-rush-carson-wentz-brett-maher-trevon-diggs-michael-gallup). His speed was a factor in the second half as well, drawing a 27-yard pass interference penalty and also 38-yarder on Commanders' cornerback William Jackson to set up CeeDee Lamb's touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 22-10 lead.

There is nobody that people love to criticize more when it comes to the Cowboys than Mike McCarthy. He does not deserve all of the credit. If you follow me on Twitter then you know that I was very vocal about disagreeing with the decision to bring back Brett Maher. He has steadied the ship, driven the bus, done whatever you want to say. Seriously though, the preseason hype around Bland was such where other players have seen it dissipate as the regular season has come along. The optimists will add that Dallas has made lemonade when nobody thought they could, and that they have a 3-1 record to show for it with all of their goals still very much in front of them. With all due respect to Kearse, who will 100% make this defense better when he returns, he hasn’t been missed much. Carson Wentz is going to be seeing number 90 charging at him for a long time after the day that Lawrence put him through. We discussed everything that happen during Sunday’s Cowboys win over the Commanders in our Dallas Cowboys Postgame Show on the Blogging The Boys podcast network. Michael Gallup played on Sunday for the first time since tearing his ACL in the penultimate game of last year’s regular season. This marks two interceptions in as many games for Diggs who has without question been playing better in 2022 than he did in 2021. Optimists will note that those are both division rivals of the Cowboys and that wins against them matter a great deal.

Another pick negated by a flag – Early in the third quarter, the Cowboys were pinned back near their goal line again and Cooper Rush was picked off on the sideline. Again – Perhaps the biggest play of this game occurred late in the third quarter with Dallas leading 15-7 but the Commanders driving with a second-and-8 at the Cowboys' 17. What we learned about Cowboys in Week 4 win over Washington (Cowboys Wire)

The defense, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, led the way for the Dallas Cowboys in their Week 4 win over the Washington Commanders.

In his first stint with the Cowboys, fans held their breath when Maher lined up for a field goal kick. Wentz lofted a pass that appeared destined for McLaurin’s hands for the score, but Diggs knocked the ball away preventing the touchdown. The defense for Dallas was the story once again. Rush wasn’t as sharp as he was in the last two weeks, but he didn’t make many mistakes leading the team to another win. It was another week where backup quarterback Cooper Rush did enough to lead the offense, throwing for 223 yards and two scores. The Dallas Cowboys are now riding a three-game winning streak after beating the Washington Commanders, 25-10, in the Week 4.

On 2nd Thought: Lots Of High Praise To Go Around (DallasCowboys.com)

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Cowboys have won three straight games – all with Cooper Rush as the starter. But it's the defense that is also carrying the Cowboys ...

Rob Phillips: The run game was a big factor in the Cowboys' previous two wins. Trevon Diggs landed his second interception in as many games and two critical pass break ups while the defensive front lived in Wentz's face without having to pay rent. Patrik Walker: It was a winnable contest for the Cowboys and, while they didn't make it easy on themselves at times, they were able to do exactly what they needed to and bully Carson Wentz into a bad game - one skewed by a touchdown and a lot of late-game yardage with the contest out of reach - moving to 3-1 on the season.

The defense entered the week leading the NFL in sacks and got two more. What's even better is the defense is doing the same thing – but in the other direction. But they did have two field goals as well, and scored a couple of other times from farther out. These three victories have been grind-it-out games where the offense just hangs around and eventually gets enough points on the board because the defense has been truly dominant from start to finish.
