Going into that stretch at 1-3 could see the train fall off the tracks in a hurry. Cleveland’s all time head-to-head record against the Birds will also move to 13-3. This would be just the second home game the Falcons have won since the start of last season. Cleveland is 4-1 in the head-to-head matchups since that year. We will be able to claim momentum and a bounce back after the back-to-back close defeats to start the season. They forced a key punt late in the fourth quarter, which gave the Falcons a chance to go win it at the end. That'll wear any defense down, especially when it's on the field all the time, and it can show up later in a game. Quarterback Marcus Mariota was sterling early on, but his efficiency slowed (and quarterback pressure increased) as the game progressed that led to unwelcome stagnancy. Then things went off the rails a bit, with a string of punts that featured multiple three-and-outs. Add to that a banged-up Denzel Ward and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah along with the loss of Anthony Walker Jr. So far this year the Falcons defense has allowed 4.8 yards per rush, 19/40 on 3rd down conversions, 65 total first downs, and 24 missed tackles (PFF). Remember how the Cleveland Browns defense was supposed to be one of the best in the NFL this year? But it is more likely the offense comes out swinging and the defense holds up just enough in a fun game to watch. Jadeveon Clowney is also a question mark (as of Friday night) and Taven Bryan is out, leaving the front four in a bind. The Browns will continue to lean on the offensive line and the run game and should have plenty of success In the end, I think the Falcons have a slight home-field advantage and will upend the Browns by a field goal with the final score being 24-21. Unfortunately for Atlanta, it has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Browns’ game formula has been the same for the first three weeks of the season. On the other side of the ball, the Browns’ offense will continue to play well while facing a Falcons defense that has struggled. for the remainder of the season, and there are just too many defensive disruptions to deal with this week. However, the defensive injuries since then have been many, and this week has been a disjointed series of practices with players in and out.

The Browns probably needed a score more than anyone is willing to admit so early in the game. On a 10-play drive, the Falcons run all 10 times with the effort being capped by a touchdown run by running back Caleb Huntley. The Browns take a 20-17 lead. A wide open Olamide Zaccheaus caught a pass for 42 yards, a 15-yard penalty on Denzel Ward moved the ball 57 yards in total allowing the Falcons to eventually attempt the field goal.

The miss wasted two big pass plays to David Njoku, for 25 and 20 yards. Guard Joel Bitonio was flagged for ineligible man downfield to take the Browns out of field goal range. Brissett took over at his 25 with no timeouts left and the drive was a disaster.

The Browns would've liked a few plays back in critical moments of the game — which occurred both early and late.

Stefanski called a run play that was stuffed at the line on first down and switched to a pass play on second down, but a holding penalty moved the Browns back another 10 yards. Brissett said he was fine with the Browns staying aggressive on the first drive and throughout the game. The Bengals picked up only their first win of the season Thursday, but still remain in fourth in the division. "We knew it was going to be a 60-minute football game, and we didn't make enough plays down the stretch." But they still remain on even ground with the rest of the division. Brissett had an instant connection with TE David Njoku for gains of 20- and 25-yards, while RB Nick Chubb had gained 11 yards on his first run of the day. Brissett looked for Njoku again, but he had defenders all around him, and the pass never had a chance. Two drives before that, the Browns allowed the Falcons to build a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that contained only run plays. Neither side of the ball had a terrible game. The play was the biggest gain the Falcons had on their drive that led to Younghoe Koo's go-ahead 45-yard field goal with three minutes left. Cleveland started the game with three trips to the red zone the first four times they possessed the ball but only had 10 points to show for it at halftime. Points in those sequences would've paid huge dividends late, and the results were an example of how aggressiveness can come back to bite.
