The best Halloween horror movies and specials to watch in 2022 (Polygon)

The best Halloween movies to watch in 2022, with great horror movies and TV shows recommended every day for the month of October. Let's get spooky.

The film descends into a macabre fugue state of assumptions, misdirections, and cinematic sleights of hand, with dreams that feel almost real set against a reality too terrifying to be anything but. Aoyama agrees to a proposal by his friend, a film producer, to take part in an audition for a nonexistent film in order to find a potential bride from the candidates. As Aoyama grows closer to his new love interest, he finds himself caught deeper and deeper in a web of intrigue that threatens to tear him apart emotionally, psychologically, and yes — even physically. Every day for the entire month of October, we’ll add a new recommendation to this Countdown and tell you where you can watch it. Miike’s film holds its cards relatively close to its chest for most of its run time, unspooling its tightly wound mystery like garrote wire before peeling back its skin of meet-cute artifice to reveal a pulsing mass of horrors roiling beneath. We’re delighted to bring that back once again, with 31 spooky selections to keep the mood going all month long.

The events of “Halloween II” (1981) never happened. If you’re still lost, maybe it’s best to just put on one of the “Friday the 13th” or “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. “Halloween Ends” hits both theaters and Peacock on Oct. The series has spawned not only films but several tie-in and standalone books, graphic novels and even a very-pixelated [Atari video game](https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3527971/halloween-40-video-game-sort-came-home/). Fondness for this outlier even made its way into the most recent films, with Silver Shamrock masks appearing briefly in the 2018 movie and prominently in “Kills.” Since the series was originally planned as an anthology (with each movie featuring a different story centered around the Halloween season), Carpenter and Hill forged ahead with a new sci-fi/supernatural story. If you happen to watch the [much-disliked](https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3722206/halloween-resurrection-20-years-later-why-the-2002-sequel-remains-a-franchise-low/) “Resurrection,” you’ll see just how much Curtis didn’t want to be in the movie. Forty years later, Laurie Strode (Curtis), still alive and in Haddonfield, must face her fears after Michael escapes and returns on Halloween. Curtis had returned to the series under the impression that “H20” would be the end of it all. Trivia: A contract stipulation resulted in both the creation of “Resurrection” and Curtis’ appearance in it. The movie also stars future “Ant Man” superstar Paul Rudd. Best Halloween Kids Movies, Ranked (MovieWeb)

Grab your favorite Halloween candy and check out this ranked list of the best Halloween kids movies.

Not to mention the updated version of the original theme song and a new song created for the movie that is probably one of the best songs ever created for a kids cartoon. The movie has captured the hearts of many people, young and old, and will probably remain one of the best movies to play around Halloween (or Christmas) for anyone of any age. Although it can be debated that the film is more of Christmas movie than a Halloween movie, Disney likes to take advantage of the movies versatility and airs it around both holidays. [Monster House](https://movieweb.com/movie/monster-house/) is definitely one for the older kids as it might be a little too scary for the littler ones, but its solid storytelling and horror influence has made this one of the best Halloween kids movies. And besides it being a well written kids horror movie, it also has a heart-warming message of appreciation for family. Victoria's family, that was once wealthy, has lost all its fortune and in turn decided to give their daughter away to the son of an extremely wealthy family. However, when the old man dies on his front lawn after trying to yell at DJ and his friends to get off his lawn, DJ begins to suspect that the house has come to life. The wicked Sanderson sisters are accidently brought back to life on Halloween night and want to drain the life force of all the kids in Salem so that they can live forever. Most people will be aiming for the traditional horror movies like Trick or Treat, Nightmare on Elm Street, and the cult classic Halloween, but we've made a list of some of the best movies to put on for the kids to get them into the spooky spirit. [Hotel Transylvania](https://movieweb.com/hotel-transylvania/) has produced a franchise that has spanned a decade and finally concluded with its fourth film, Hotel Transylvania:Transformania, and a TV series with two seasons that ended in 2020. The movies are quirky and fun while giving an easily digestible story of love and family. So, gather the kids (or cozy up on your own, we don't judge), grab your favorite Halloween candy, and check out this ranked list of the best Halloween kids' movies.

Best Horror Movies on Netflix for October 2022 (Den of Geek)

Spooky season is upon us - time to snuggle down with the best horror movies Netflix has to offer.

Take the first and best in the series. With a cast of high-minded British theatrical actors, many trained in the Royal Shakespeare Company, at least the early movies in this Gothic horror/action mash-up series were overflowing with histrionic self-importance and grandiosity. And wouldn’t you know it, true crime journalist Ellison (Hawke) just moved into a house with an attic full of home movies stuffed to the gills with Bughuul. This existential Spanish horror made a splash at the start of lockdown with it’s tale of prisoner trapped in an enormous vertical prison with a platform at it’s center, which delivers food to the inmate floor by floor starting at the top, so that each floor only gets what the floor above has left over. She knows the tortures of inner solitude, the insecurities of the mistreated misfit, and the raging undercurrent of pre-adolescent violence. Muschietti gets tremendous performances out of his young actors, and Bill Skarsgard delivers a terrifying portrayal of the manifestation known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. For instance, the savvy angle about this movie is Kate Siegel (who co-wrote the movie with Flanagan) plays Maddie, a deaf and mute woman living in the woods alone. [Gangs of London](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/gangs-of-london-review/)’s Sope Dirisu and Loki’s Wunmi Mosaku as a refugee couple who’ve been housed in a large but dilapidated property in a city outside London. The movies are based on the Fear Street books by R.L Stine and so have a YA vibe as well as a bit of social commentary as the youths of Shadyside seem to be cursed as opposed to their privileged neighbors in Sunnyvale. Ed and Lorraine are back! Playing on the power of politeness and the awkwardness of male relationships, this is a highly original, itchily uncomfortable watch. And you can [check out our review](https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/annihilation-review/), too if you like.

The art, the creativity, the voice actors — this movie is an inspiration for movie buffs everywhere and so I give it a solid 10/10. It's the holy grail of Halloween movies and a must-see during Freeform's “31 Night of Halloween.” This movie goes over the ranking system and gets an 11/10 in my opinion. Coming in at No. This movie is underrated in every way and is one of my favorites to watch year-round. I give this movie a solid 8/10. 4 is “The Addams Family.” Gomez and Morticia Addams are the best couple in Hollywood film and no one can change my mind on that. This movie gets a nice 7.8/10. I give this movie a 6.8/10. I have loved this movie since the first time I watched it. 9 is “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” This movie had a good flow to it, but the acting was not the best I have seen. 8 is “ParaNorman.” When this movie first came out, I knew I had to go watch it in theaters. As I got older, I realized the movie was not as great as I thought it was, but it still deserves to be a part of the list.

The best cult classic horror movies | Digital Trends (Digital Trends)

If you've rewatched the classics a million times over, why not give one of these amazing cult classic horror flicks a try? Here are seven titles that we ...

And it would be the writer-director’s 1968 feature film Night of the Living Dead that would cement the auteur’s calling card as the go-to king of the flesh-eating hordes. The story follows Fenton Meiks (McConaughey), a man who pays a visit to FBI agent Wesley Doyle (Boothe), claiming that his deceased brother, Adam, is the man behind a string of murders known as the “God’s Hand” killings. Intercut with flashbacks, the narrative explores Fenton’s childhood, where his father (Paxton) claims to have been visited by an angel who tasked the patriarch with eradicating demons that are disguised as human beings. The late, great Bill Paxton is perhaps best known for acting roles in movies like Twister, Aliens, and Titanic. It feels primitive, looks primitive, and is even performed in a kind of off-beat, avant-garde fashion. And in the world of horror cinema, there are hundreds of cult classic flicks to absorb, often because these unique films are made on such small budgets, receiving minimal promotion and only hanging out in theaters for a small window of time (or going straight to home video). Shot in black and white, the film was financed in part by the AFI Film Conservatory and would take over five years to actually complete. And it all started back in 1977, with Lynch’s feature debut, Eraserhead — a cult classic for the ages. Is it because Harvey didn’t know how to direct his talent and just went with his gut? Director Herk Harvey didn’t spend much time making narrative features — in fact, Carnival of Souls is his only fiction film, with previous cinematic efforts dedicated solely to industrial and commercial productions. The movie itself is a truly inventive and groundbreaking “found footage” flick about three film students who find more than they bargained for when investigating the titular local legend. We’ve gone ahead and rounded up the best cult classic horror movies you can stream right now.
