'Community' Movie Is Finally Happening, at Peacock, Fulfilling the ... (Variety)

Six seasons and a movie! Sony and Universal TV strike a deal with Peacock for the new 'Community" movie, which comes from Dan Harmon and most of the show's ...

By the end of Season 6 (and after a total of 110 episodes), “Community” had wrapped for good — as had Yahoo! Of course, since the show ended its run, “Community” cast members have all moved on to other critically acclaimed projects. That line was first uttered by Abed (Pudi) in the Season 2 episode “Paradigms of Human Memory.” It was good for “Community” — but not so much for Yahoo!, which realized its investment far exceeded any revenue coming out of the show. Added Universal TV president Erin Underhill: “This franchise is the very definition of community. (“Community” ran on NBC for five of the show’s six seasons, and Universal TV served as one of the show’s production companies, with studio lead Sony .) After Season 3, NBC and Sony, worried that “Community” hadn’t drawn enough of a mainstream audience, fired Harmon and brought in new executive producers. But that wasn’t the end of the line. Still, after years of dancing around cancellation, NBC finally pulled the plug on “Community” at the end of its fifth season. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.” Also unanswered is whether other key “Community” cast members, including Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover, might still make an appearance — or at least a cameo. Sony Pictures TV and Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television shingle are the studios on the show.

[an episode of Good One](https://www.vulture.com/article/dan-harmon-community-movie-good-one-podcast.html), it was clear he was starting to think about the movie practically, weighing what the movie would need to be both a satisfying reunion and enjoyable film in its own right. When Vulture spoke to him in the summer of 2021, for To set the scene, it is the end of Community’s second season and the show has developed a lot of goodwill among TV critics and superfans but not as much for the average network-sitcom viewer. (Same for Jonathan Banks, Paget Brewster, and Keith David, all of whom became members of the “study group” in the later seasons.) Jeff (McHale) screams, “The show’s gonna last three weeks!” To which Abed replies, “Six seasons and a movie!” And so it was written. The cast members would say some version of they’d do it if Harmon wrote it, and Harmon would offer some self-deprecation. It also plays host to countless Universal films, including Jurassic Park, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and Back to the Future! It's unlikely Chase will appear in the film; his tenure during Community was messy and his character was ultimately killed off, but we can never really say never when a series produces a movie seven years after its run. Peacock will exclusively stream the film, which comes from Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television. Here's everything we know about the just-announced 'Community' movie coming to Peacock.

So yes, a Community movie is confirmed, but it looks like you’ll have to watch it on Peacock. That’s particularly surprising for Brown and Glover, who both left the show before it officially ended to pursue other opportunities. But like so many aspects of the beloved sitcom created by [Dan Harmon](https://www.inverse.com/article/36696-rick-and-morty-season-3-female-writers-harassment-dan-harmon), “Six seasons and a movie” went on to become much more. In response, the streaming platform shared this: You may have noticed that among the accounts McHale tagged with his tweet is the official one for Peacock. Ken Jeong (who plays Ben Chang) also tweeted the same image.

'Community' Finally Fulfills the Six Seasons and a Movie Prophecy (GQ Magazine)

Sure, the show managed the six-seasons part of Abed's prophecy (originally meant for the NBC superhero drama The Cape, which managed one season and zero movies) ...

This last award is an apt action-packed legacy for a show whose list of directors includes the Avengers’s Russo Brothers and Fast and the Furious’ Justin Lin. (Though it has a very different look and a darker comedic sensibility, it’s worth noting that the Yahoo season—led once again by Harmon, who was gone for season four—is very much worth watching if you skipped it, as many fans did.) When the season six finale aired, Community had neither been renewed nor canceled, and what ended up being the series finale played with that sense of uncertainty. The phrase “Six seasons and a movie” has long been a bittersweet one for fans of the cult sitcom Community. There’s no clear sense of what the plot will be, although, during May’s charity table read, [Glover floated the idea](https://screenrant.com/community-movie-story-details-prediction/) of a story around what happened to his character Troy–he leaves Greendale to sail around the world with actor LeVar Burton–that was enthusiastically received by Harmon.
