La Brea Season 2 Premiere Recap — Plus, 10 Burning (or Silly ... (TVLine)

The "La Brea" Season 2 premiere introduced a brand-new threat for Eve & Co., and a shocking reveal about Gavin and Izzy's fate.

Noting that woolly rhinos “see” with their hearing (Fact Check in Aisle 1!?), Gavin creates a distraction while Ella and Izzy (who has come clean about her injury) try to dash across the clearing. But when they subsequently spot the Petersen Automotive Museum wreckage off in the distance, signaling the landing place of Eve and the others, they realize they in fact have been in California this whole time! With Ella griping about how they leaped sans food or supplies, Gavin sets out to (successfully!) hunt a boar, though along the way he draws the interest of a woolly rhino. Levi has to rein in Sam some (“We have to be humane!”), especially since they want to keep peace with Paara and her people, who soon arrive at the clearing with needed foodstuffs. Gavin, Izzy and Ella, we learn, are planning to walk 20 miles a day, from where in Seattle the sinkhole (seemingly) plopped them, to Los Angeles. Silas buys himself some time by pointing his captors to a building that’s a day’s walk north (aka the tower that Aldridge took Scott to), after which Eve and Levi immediately make tracks.

'La Brea' Cast and Character Guide: Who's Who in the NBC Drama (Collider.com)

With Season 2 now airing, here's a look at the cast and characters behind the hit NBC drama La Brea.

With her strong background as a former pre-med student, Riley uses her knowledge to help out the rest of the survivors in the sinkhole. He is Gavin’s best friend and is leading the mission to save the survivors trapped inside the sinkhole. Clair started her acting career in 2015 with a role in the La Jolla Playhouse. His knowledge of prehistoric life and the animal kingdom becomes incredibly valuable as he helps his fellow survivors get familiar with his surroundings. Although he may not have been the best role model in his family, Gavin gives his all to save his family and the rest of the survivors with his visions. Velez fell into the sinkhole along with his daughter Riley, he immediately takes a stance and assists the rest of the survivors. McKenzie took on the role of Marc Snell in The Hopes and Dreams of Gazza Snell. Velez does have his vulnerable side, a result of his time in the army. Her skills in hunting and trapping help her become a valuable asset to the camp and earns her respect from others. Macken is originally a model for the likes of Ralph Lauren and GQ. Chiké Okonkwo plays Ty Coleman, a therapist and fellow survivor that Eve befriends in the sinkhole. The new season takes us back to the people trapped in a massive, time-traveling sinkhole that appeared out of nowhere at La Brea Tar Pits and Wilshire Boulevard.

'La Brea' Stars Natalie Zea and Jack Martin Say 'There's Gonna Be a ... (Variety)

Season 2 NBC's hit sinkhole drama 'La Brea' premiered Tuesday, and Natalie Zea and Jack Martin — who play mother and son — say mysteries will be solved this ...

MARTIN: I’ve been a fan of this genre for a while, you know, I’ve seen “Lost,” I’ve seen “The Walking Dead.” Something that was fun is that the new season of “Stranger Things” was coming out while we were shooting this, and they also go to L.A. My story, in addition to a lot of the people who were left in the clearing, it’s really just a continuation of exactly where we left off because the name of the episode is “The Next Day.” Can you even look at that area of Los Angeles after seeing it swallowed up in a sinkhole? From there, I just tried to embody the feeling of those characters. There’s going to be some reunions, there’s going to be some character interactions that people have been waiting to see. It’s just a part of the experience that she’s going through right now. Last season, I tended to be in these big group dynamics that were more about driving the plot forward and were shooting in these wild outdoor locations that we still use, but it’s less of a focus for Josh here. People think that I am Silas, I get a lot of that, which I can’t speak to, but other theories like that. That’s not to mention the endless slew of prehistoric predators and the mysterious modern skyscraper that was revealed at the end of the last season. There’s a bit of like, you know, “I’ll deal with my feelings later, as soon as we make sure that everybody is alive and breathing.” There has to be moments where she takes a breath and she becomes vulnerable. Zea and Martin, currently finishing up shooting the second season in Australia, spoke to Variety about the show’s latest revelations.

"That's a very long walk. "Being afraid of something that isn't there is wild," she said. "Both physically and emotionally, she's having a very difficult time. "I like being able to play it as a woman, and I like her flaws." And prior to the events of this show, he felt betrayed by his dad, which made him question those things. "It was really weird also just thinking about being in 10,000 B.C. "So, it's become this fun, action‑packed experience for all of us. "When the stakes are literal life and death, you tend to kind of put that bull[expletive] aside ‑‑ initially, at least ‑‑ to make sure everybody stays alive," she said. She's got no choice," the actress emphasized, noting she valiantly confronts both internal and external forces. "But, then, I think there's always a moment when it's a good time to have those conversations." "We have to set all this stuff aside. In Season 1, Eve's estranged, former military pilot husband, Gavin (Eoin Macken), and daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) try to transport themselves into the past to reunite their family.

Perhaps, she and her dad are more alike than we thought, while Josh was content to live among 1980s movies and food. When I saw that vision of her in danger, I wanted to come down here to help. This was her main reason for going through the portal. For all I know she’s dead and coming here was a waste. This new group will probably be the new villains of La Brea Season 2. Eve only wants her family back and is willing to check out Silas's Intel to hang onto that hope. His friends aren't aware of his mental health issues, but they want to help. Thankfully, he and Marybeth made peace before she died. Last season, he was so angry at everyone, especially his mom. Silas also has nothing to lose. As they began their search, things were awkward between Eve and Levi. Without Riley there to keep him calm, he loses it.

La Brea Boss Explains How That New Sinkhole Will Shake Up ... (TV Guide)

La Brea showrunner David Appelbaum explains the significance of the new sinkhole revealed in the premiere of the NBC drama.

We don't want to interfere with that journey, because if we did, it might affect the fate of Josh and Riley. What we've set up in Season 1 is a complicated love triangle, but it's been a love triangle without…we haven't really been able to play it in the way that you want because not all the characters were together. We got a taste of that in Season 1 where we found that treasure box of gold from the 1800s, and we'll continue to expand that idea. We're constantly twisting the story and coming up with new surprises and keeping the audience on their toes, so I think it goes along with a larger vision for the show that we have. It is, I think, a place that I don't think our audience might have expected for us to go, but I think that's one of the fun things about the show. I think it offers opportunities, not only in Season 2, but also in the future with other things and other people we might be able to meet as we go forward. Applebaum: Isaiah is going to play a small but important role in the season. That's a question to be answered next week, hopefully along with the contents of the high rise that Aldridge ( [Ming-Zhu Hii](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/ming-zhu-hii/credits/3030799055/)) and Scott ( [Rohan Mirchandaney](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/rohan-mirchandaney/3060033585/)) are finally about to enter. David Appelbaum: Well, what we know from Episode 1 is that it might offer a way for [Josh and Riley] to get to 10,000 BC, but going back to 10,000 BC isn't going to be so simple, because they're going to get sucked into the larger mystery of why the sinkholes are existing and who is behind them and can they stop them. Applebaum: We are playing the time travel idea that the events of 10,000 BC are changing the future. Remember that sinkhole in Seattle that Gavin ( [Eoin Macken](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/eoin-macken/credits/3000023560/)) jumped into with his daughter Izzy ( [Zyra Gorecki](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/zyra-gorecki/3000900412/)) and one-time adoption pal Ella ( [Michelle Vergara Moore](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/michelle-vergara-moore/credits/590915/))? [La Brea](https://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/la-brea/1000898094/) is back, and with it comes a whole bunch of incredible new twists.

La Brea Season 2's Hollywood Sinkhole Explained (Screen Rant)

La Brea season 2 episode 1 kicked off with the opening of a new sinkhole in Hollywood - what's going on, and is time breaking irreparably?

To their surprise, they learned a sinkhole had opened beneath the Hollywood sign in 1988, causing a large part of the sign to collapse. [La Brea](https://screenrant.com/tag/la-brea/) season 2 kicked off in spectacular fare, with another sinkhole opening in Hollywood in 1988. It is, however, quite possible that this is the very reason these mysterious scientists are conducting their experiments in the first place. La Brea season 2 will clearly build on these revelations, hopefully explaining just who is responsible for the temporal chaos - and why. As bewildering as this may be for Gavin, from an in-universe perspective the time travel "rules" seem to be making sense. La Brea season 1 kicked off with a sinkhole forming in Los Angeles; at the bottom of the sinkhole was a rift transporting those unlucky enough to fall into it to the year 10,000BC, at the tail end of the last Ice Age.

Besides a newspaper revealing a sinkhole opened at the Hollywood sign, something that had not originally happened, there is not much pushing their storyline forward. However, “The Next Day” does not handle them directly.
